With the growing success of Dutch acts in their home country and beyond, here are four up and coming artists set to make their mark internationally this year.
Having released successful debut albums in 2016 such as Amber Arcades ‘Fading Lines’, Klangstof’s ‘Close Eyes to Exit’ and with new albums on the way from Dool with debut release “Here Now, There Then” and Navarone’s ‘Oscillation’ coming early 2017, these are certainly the acts to keep your eyes (& ears!) on this year.

- Amber Arcades
Amber Arcades is the moniker of Dutch-born musician Annelotte de Graaf. Her 2016 record, recorded in New York with producer Ben Greenberg (Beach Fossils, The Men, Destruction Unit) and backed by a band consisting of members of Real Estate, Quilt and Kevin Morby is as dreamy and esoteric as it is gripping, presenting floating pop melodies over a mixture of kraut-inspired drums, cutting guitars and fuzzed-out organs.

- Klangstof
For Koen Van De Wardt, making music is a far greater pursuit than simply creating something to catch someone else’s ear. “The more people that respond to my music the less lonely I feel,” admits the singer and musical architect who records ethereal, soft- hushed but forever gripping synth-anchored music under the moniker Klangstof. “For me it’s just about getting in the studio and erasing all the bad feelings I have in my mind.”

- Dool
From the emptiness which arose from the omnipresence of materialism and technology, something new can manifest in it’s wake. Turning their backs to the metropole’s mass-identity and urban-individual, the unavoidable birth of Dool has taken place. The band, led by vocals and guitarist Ryanne van Dorst (Elle Bandita), also consists of Micha Haring (The Devil’s Blood, The Hands) on drums, Job van de Zande (The Devil’s Blood, Malkovich) on bass, Reinier Vermeulen (The New Media, Liar of Golgotha) on guitar and Nick Polak (Gold) on guitar, are aggressive as well as dynamic, alternating shreds of dark rock, gothic pop, as well as parts of psychedelic metal in an ever surprising manner. Audibly influenced by bands such as Sisters of Mercy and Sonic Youth, Dool bends their musical nurture to their own creation, searching for a true identity.

- Navarone
Classic rock, progressive 70s, grunge, alternative rock, this 5-piece combines it all. Sometimes heavy and bombastic, sometimes very intimate, but always really authentic. On top of that they have a singer that makes even Robert Plant look like an amateur. Their first two albums received much critical acclaim in their home country and brought them major festivals and a sold out tour. With their newest album Oscillation (Jan 2017) also internationally released, Navarone are now ready to take on the rest of Europe as well.
