United We Stream Brighton continues to showcase some of the city’s best local artists and venues to help raise money to keep the city’s nightlife alive.

This week it’s time for the bands to shine as social distancing rules are relaxed and they can finally get on stage and into venues to play the music loud and remind everyone how much they miss live music.

Starting off the Friday night programme we have two fine residents from local party Missing People in Tom Luka & Stone Collins.  You can find the Missing People crew doing their thing across the city at venues such as The Tempest Inn, Patterns & at their Sunday open decks sessions at tonight’s host venue Presuming Ed. The party mantra is simple, good music & good sound at inviting & interesting spaces. As DJs both bring a selection which traverses the house music spectrum perfectly suited to get you in the mood for the weekend. Jeni Hipkiss wraps things up at New Unity with some quality house music.

On Saturday Gaydio’s Alex Baker and Toby Lawrence go back to back on the Revenge rooftop with tunes to get us in the Saturday night party mood. Then it’s over to Komedia for the bands to take centre stage with singer-songwriter Jarki Monno with his unique blend of electronic, hip-hop and jazz from Komedia.

Four-piece grunge/psych-rock band Demob Happy who are known for their raucous live shows and freewheeling spirit will excite viewers with their set playing tracks from their recent album ‘Holy Doom’. Following a landmark 2019  amassing over 8.8 million streams and with packed with an international touring schedule which included supporting Jack White, the trio are excited to get back on stage.  Next up is post-punk 4 piece Porridge Radio with all the rawness of early Karen O and influences as disparate as Charli XCX and The Cranberries. Pitchfork reviewed the band’s second album calling it “the sound of a band mercilessly digging into itself with a stunning, dynamic performance from singer-songwriter Dana Margolin

On Sunday Enter Art Gallery brings us two special performances from Three Button Hand Me Down, a brilliant trio comprising of Martin Duffy, keyboard player from Primal Scream, Charlotte Charlotte Courbe from  “Le Volume Courbe” and  Steve Mason, lead singer and one of the founding members of The Beta Band. Gary and The Yays are next up, an 80s pop obsessed punk idiot desperately trying to figure out life in general with a debut album ‘When I Grow Up To Be A Man’ available from Bandcamp. Then giving us all a much-needed laugh with a sketch from Komedia is the one and only Zoe Lyons.

United We Stream Brighton continues to grow with over 420,000 views, showcasing Brighton’s talent to the world and reminding us of all the venues that are closed and we are missing during this time.

The music will continue over the coming weeks including more bands, so keep an eye out on the website social media pages for the upcoming line ups. Acts to look forward to include; Mystery Jets, Penelope Isles, Flyte, Bess Atwell, Electric Soft Parade, The Wytches, Egyptian Blue, LIME, Otzeki, Ebi Soda, Speelburg, CLT Drop, Skinny Milk, comedienne Jess Robinson and many more!

A movement that started in Berlin during lockdown that has spread to over 66 cities around the world, United We Stream Brighton continues to showcase the music, culture and free-thinking rainbow infused spirit to viewers at home, whilst raising money to support the city’s nightlife, cultural organisations and charities.

The idea is for locals as well as people around the world to enjoy and experience Brighton’s music, art and culture through the website and social platforms. United We Stream Brighton is free, but with donations welcome, and all proceeds will go to support night-time economy businesses and cultural organisations across Brighton & Hove as well as contributing to the fight against homelessness and the vital work undertaken by the Grassroots charity and Audio Active.

Please donate what you can to raise money for Brighton’s nightlife, cultural organisations, charities and the fight against homelessness.  https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/brightonunitedwestream
