Techno and electronic music icon Dave Clarke last month released The Desecration of Desire, his first album in fourteen years, through SKINT. Today, Clarke releases two new remixes by Surgeon and The Hacker for the single ‘I’m Not Afraid’, which features the sublime vocals of Anika.

The first remix comes from legendary DJ Surgeon, who has been at the forefront of UK techno since the early 1990s and has a past history of working with Clarke. The second comes from another veteran of the techno world, French electroclash and techno producer The Hacker who has been making his own music in the classic Detroit style since 1995.

Says Clarke: “I bought Anika’s album from Get Records in Amsterdam when it came out, Masters of War was the track for me and I have always thought about working together on a bass heavy track and her lyrics here are sublime and political”.

Over the last three decades, Clarke has proved a singular voice in the underground dance world. As well as turning out essential tracks such as his famous Red Series, he has also hosted his influential White Noise radio show, which has just surpassed 600 episodes and remixed an array of artists including Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, A Place To Bury Strangers, Placebo, Underworld and Soft Moon.

The Desecration of Desire follows 1995’s collection of singles Archive One and 2003’s Devil’s Advocate, which came produced under various outside pressures. The album itself contains very little techno. “Not because I don’t like it—I live and breathe it every single week—but I wanted to make an album that was not a collection of club tracks. I listen to many types of music all the time and I felt free for the first time to implement this approach for my own project.” As such it comes coloured with the perspectives of “some delightful, intelligent and deep people who inspired me in their own way” such as LOUISAHHH, Mark Lanegan, Mt. Sims, Anika, Gazelle Twin and Keith Tenniswood.

“The ‘baron of techno’ conjures a brooding, medieval mood with songs that loom in murky light.”- Financial Times

Baron of techno Dave Clarke’s first album in 14 years is worth the wait.”– Line of Best Fit
