Global Publicity 2021 Reflections
This has been another tough year for the live music and events industry, but we have worked hard to support our clients through the highs and lows of the pandemic and are privileged to continue our work with industry leading events and festivals.
We are grateful to have been some of the lucky few to travel and work on events this year including EXIT in Serbia, which was one of the first major festivals to take place post pandemic and the Amsterdam Dance Event.
We have also used our expertise to help support the industry with our work for the Night Time Industries Association and we are looking forward to continuing to make a positive contribution to the industry we love being part of so much in 2022.
Massive thanks to everyone we have worked with this year and for the love and support of our colleagues in the music industry community. Looking forward to a positive and productive 2022.
NTIA Launches #LetUsDance Campaign to Save New Years Eve
Attention Prime Minister “LetUsDance” on New Years Eve Campaign
23rd December 2021
The Rt Hon Boris Johnson, MP
Prime Minister
Office of the Prime Minister
10 Downing Street
London
SW1A 2AA
Dear Prime Minister,
We are asking you for a chance to survive 2021!
Once again, our sector, which contributes £46 billion to the culture economy and employs 425 thousand people, has suffered enormous damage as a result of the Government response to the pandemic in recent weeks.
It’s likely that tens of thousands of our businesses will never recover from this damage. Most of these are small and medium sized owner run businesses that play a vital part in the cultural, social, and economic lives of our towns and cities. And if that is not bad enough, we now face the possibility that major parts of our sector may face further curbs, and, in the case of nightclubs, total closure immediately after Christmas. In a very real sense, we are facing the Sword of Damocles.
We have always respected and acknowledged that public health is of paramount importance and have played our part in the crisis, although extremely challenging, have tried to work through the constraints and restrictions placed upon us.
However, there are increasingly promising reports that the Omicron variant, though highly transmissible, may not be as aggressive as previous variants. We also restate our view, backed up by data, that it has been clear for some time that late night economy venues, particularly nightclubs, with the appropriate measures in place, are not a major source of virus transmission.
Even so, given the extended restrictions including covid certification recently enforced by you, this should be enough to give people the confidence in your leadership and assure them that they can, in fact, participate in night life safely, through these measures. Full closure of venues on top of this does not give people any confidence in your current mitigations and backs our sector into a corner with no chance of survival, based on very little scientific evidence.
Connecting through music, dance and socialising in our communities is an essential part of physical, social, and mental wellbeing and during this extremely difficult time especially needed to give people hope.
We must open! We do not want to rely on public funding, but you are giving us no choice. And the little gesture of support given recently, is simply not enough for many businesses to survive.
We have worked so hard and invested heavily to keep our customers and staff safe, against all adversity, and continue to present safe well-regulated spaces for people to come together safely and enjoy a night out!
In view of the above, we urge you to act with clarity and decisiveness, as soon as the data allows, to firmly reject calls for further draconian measures against our sector as we fear that they will be unnecessary and will not contribute to the fight against the virus. Every hour of uncertainty condemns thousands of businesses to failure with all the human, social and economic consequences that entails,
Let’s not end this year as we did last.
End the uncertainty and Let Us Dance on New Year’s Eve
Yours faithfully
Michael Kill
Chief Executive NTIA

Frans Timmermans confirmed for opening keynote at ESNS 2022
Frans Timmermans is confirmed for the opening keynote speech at the ESNS 2022 conference. As Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Timmermans is responsible for the Green Deal.
The Green Deal is one of the topics Timmermans will address in his opening keynote. As ESNS underwrites that sustainability is no longer just a buzzword and holds it as an important policy focus festival-wide, Timmermans will dive deeper into taking green steps going forward, for the music industry.
This aligns with the theme of the ESNS 2022 conference, Building Back Better Together. After almost two years of regulations around the pandemic, it is time to look forward and focus on how we can build the live industry back better, together.
Among other newly announced speakers and panels that will join the conference line-up, are: Mark Mulligan (MIDiA Research) will be speaking about the creator economy in ‘Slicing the Music Industry Funnel’; Music Moves Europe Awards nominee BLANKS joins Bandcamp, Erasmus University and Tunecore in ‘Why are fans loyal anyway?’; and ‘NFT’s: hype or future of the music industry’, with Colin Benders (Kyteman). Pepijn Lanen (Faberyayo of De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig) is one of the panellists of ‘How to build a family friendly music industry’. IMPALA’s Helen Smith will discuss the RAAP court ruling; The impact of COVID-19 on the 2022 Festival Season with Marta Pallares (Primavera), Codruta Vulcu (ARTmania), Paul Reed (AIF), Christof Huber (Yourope) and Stephan Thanscheidt (FKP Scorpio). At ESNS 2022 we will talk about how Brexit affects the music market, Europe’s Green New Deal as well as accessibility and inclusion. ESNS invited inspiring people dedicated to diversity within the music industry; Freyja Lawson, Sakina Saouti, Malle Kaas and Kobi Ampoma will join the Omroep Zwart panel ‘Diversity in the backstage’. In collaboration with Erasmus University we introduce ESNS Science talking about the resilience of people and companies in the sector.
Previously, ESNS announced a keynote interview with longtime record executive Merck Mercuriadis by Helienne Lindvall, as well as a keynote address by Urgenda director and ‘leading global thinker’ Marjan Minnesma, while Anne Löhr will be running the Mental Health Help Desk and Heather Shaw and Cortney Harding tell all about the Metaverse.
Due to the uncertainty around the COVID-19 regulations, we are moving some of the panels and keynotes to ESNS 2023, which includes the keynote interviews with Sub Pop’s Pavitt & Poneman, Peter Weening (Vera), Matt Schwarz (DreamHaus) and André de Raaff. Our focus on Spain will also be postponed to 2023, as ESNS wants to guarantee the quality that the showcase festival and conference is known for.
ESNS takes place – entirely online – from January 19 – 22, 2022. Tickets for the digital conference are available for €99,- via www.esns.nl/tickets. The festival will be available – free of charge – with sessions recorded by Dutch broadcaster NTR in collaboration with NPO 3FM, to be broadcast by NPO 3FM, NPO 3 and the digital festival platform, hosted by VPRO 3VOOR12.

Showcase Festival and Conference ESNS 2022 Will Take Place Entirely Online
The European showcase festival and conference ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) in Groningen will take place entirely online from 19 – 22 January 2022. The organisation took the tough decision after the recent government announcement with the latest COVID-19 measures.
The current measures regarding COVID-19 will not allow ESNS to host all the booked European acts and bring music professionals together in the Netherlands. Motivated by the continuously changing COVID-19 restrictions and the uncertainties surrounding entry to the Netherlands, a physical edition of ESNS is no longer possible.
ESNS already successfully organised an online edition for both the showcase festival and the conference at the beginning of 2021, due to a lockdown. The online edition offered European musicians a huge amount of exposure and gave music industry professionals the opportunity to visit the conference online to take part in panels and discussions and to network digitally. The organisation is building on its successful 2021 digital edition and is looking forward to seeing what they can achieve in 2022
Managing director Dago Houben will not give up and says: “ESNS is of great importance to the entire music industry and especially to European musicians. It is therefore essential to carry out our function of providing the best possible platform for European pop music. Earlier this year we saw that the reach of a digital edition can be huge and that we were able to make a difference to an artist's career. We are therefore pleased to give all booked ESNS artists the exposure they deserve with the help of our media partners.”
ESNS will give all booked ESNS acts the opportunity to take centre stage on the freely accessible platform, in collaboration with Dutch radio broadcaster NPO 3FM. Tickets for the digital conference ESNS at € 99,- are available via www.esns.nl. Ticket buyers who previously bought a ticket for the physical edition will be notified as soon as possible.
The digital edition of ESNS 2022 includes a conference programme as well as the festival programmes of Noorderslag, Eurosonic and the Music Moves Europe Awards award ceremony.

EXIT Releases an Aftermovie of the Festival’s Historic 2021 Edition
EXIT has announced an official aftermovie of its 20th anniversary edition, held in July, which will be remembered as the first major festival in the world to take place since the start of the pandemic. The four-minute video depicts the many emotions and memories of the festival, which many global media outlets called historic, and where many global stars performed for the first time after a long 18-month break.
The aftermovie also launches the EXIT 2022 campaign, with the festival’s upcoming edition set to take place at the Petrovaradin Fortress from 7th to 10th July, and the first two headliners have already been announced - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Boris Brejcha.
EXIT FESTIVAL 2021 | The Official Aftermovie
The rewinding of memories will bring us all back to the four days in July, during which the world was shown the power of unity, life, adventure, freedom, and love, guided by the idea of Exit 2.0 — “Celebrate Life.” Many performers, including David Guetta, Paul Kalkbrenner, Charlotte de Witte, Nina Kraviz and Solomun, performed in front of a large audience for the first time after a long break. We could see what that felt like based on their reactions — Guetta told the audience before his performance that EXIT was “the best place to be on the entire planet”, Nina Kraviz posted on her Instagram page after the performance, calling the experience “surreal,” and DJ Snake described his performance as a “legendary night,” exclaiming “We’re back!”
The world has recognized the importance of these moments – many reputable media outlets reported on EXIT. Leading American music magazine Billboard announced that EXIT “went down in history as the first major European festival since the beginning of the pandemic,” one of the leading professional magazines related to the concert industry Pollstar stated that EXIT “achieved something revolutionary” in 2021, one of the world’s most prestigious magazines about the entertainment industry, Variety, reported that the Serbian festival is “the biggest European music event since the beginning of the pandemic” while the leading Dutch daily newspaper Algemeen Dagblad called this year’s edition of EXIT “hope for festivals”. EXIT was presented to BBC World News viewers live in a programme as “the first major international music festival in 2021”, and the opening of the festival gates was announced by EXIT founder Dušan Kovačević and Serbian DJ Tijana T. News of the EXIT Festival travelled all over the world and was also reported in the famous Beijing daily newspaper Guangming Daily, whose article was shared on social networks over million times in 24 hours!
EXIT’s audience and performers proved once again that they will always be together, no matter the obstacles. The significance of the jubilee edition of EXIT is perfectly described by the words of Humana Rias, who performed at the No Sleep stage: “Dear EXIT festival, you gave me hope, you gave me light, and most of all you gave me back my flame which I will carry in pride! You started the revolution and reminded me and countless others, that we belong together, all United through music. You gave me life. We are the future”.
The 20th anniversary edition of the EXIT Festival, was held from 8th to 11th July at the Petrovaradin Fortress and gathered more than 180,000 people from over 70 countries around the world, as well as numerous performers, including David Guetta, DJ Snake, Sabaton, Charlotte de Witte, Amelie Lens, Paul Kalkbrenner, Maceo Plex, Solomun, Artbat, Pan-Pot, Roni Size, Robin Schulz, Paul Van Dyk, Meduza, Laibach, Sheck Wes, Jonas Blue, Asaf Avidan, Satori, DJ Topic, Adiel, Francois X, Marko Nastić, Tijana T, Rundek i Ekipa, Massimo, Ida Prester & Lollobrigida, Amira Medunjanin, Senidah, Hladno Pivo, Buč Kesidi, and many others.
Special Ticket Prices for EXIT 2022
Four-day tickets for EXIT 2022 can be purchased at a price of 109 EUR + b/f, with a discount of as much as 60 percent. One-day tickets for Friday 8th July, when Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds perform, are available at gift prices at a price of 34 EUR +b/f for regular, 44 EUR + b/f for Fan pit and 100 EUR + b/f for VIP GOLD.
