EXIT Festival premiered new event in Croatia with 50,000 fans attending Sea Star

EXIT Festival kicked off their Summer of Love with unforgettable days at the newly launched Sea Star festival in Umag, Croatia. Taking place from May 25 to 28, with spectacular performances and endless energy, the first edition of the EXIT's brand-new Sea Star Festival finished in the sunny lagoon of the Stella Maris resort on the beautiful Croatian coast.

EXIT's Summer of Love is a regional festival run marking the 50th anniversary since the original in 1967,  connecting four neighbouring countries of the region, kicking off with the Sea Star, the bright new star in the festival sky of Europe.

There was an almost instant interest for a new festival in Croatia run by the team behind the acclaimed Serbian EXIT Festival which led to Sea Star Festival having to triple its initially announced capacity and eventually even doubling the number of festival zones due to the high demand.  50,000 elated visitors from over 70 countries that passed through the festival gates in the four days and nights enjoyed superb performances with the impeccable production you'd expect from EXIT.

The beautiful lagoon of the Stella Maris resort proved to be a wonderful home for the festival. The Prodigy left their stamp on the entire festival, with a spectacular performance in front of a euphoric audience, bringing the spark of the authentic EXIT spirit to Umag and Croatia. The living legend of dance music, Fatboy Slim proved that he is still on top of the game with his so-much-more-than-eclectic set being now even more complex and mind-blowing, leaving tens of thousands in front of the Addiko Tesla Stage in awe!

Berlin's techno hero Paul Kalkbrenner had a brilliant performance in the festival's grand finale taking the audience into the sunrise, with the views that could compare only to EXIT’s colossal Dance Arena. The new darlings of the Balkan audience, Modestep, caused an eruption of energy with their performance that will circulate among the visitors for a long time. Pendulum have proven with their DJ set why drum’n’bass as aa genre cannot be talked about without them in the frontline. Dance hitmaker Spiller brought the rhythm and melodies of his anthem "Groovejet" under the open skies, and Dubioza Kolektiv took everyone’s breath away in an explosion of energy combining dub, reggae and rock rhythms. Regional technostars, UMEK, Marko Nastić and Petar Dundov justified their hard-earned names, standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the greatest world stars. The talent pool of the region was also represented by S.A.R.S, Brkovi, Artan Lili, Pips, Chips & Videoclips, Bad Copy, Elemental, Jonathan, Sassja, Kiša metaka, Kandžija, Nipplepeople, Kawasaki 3p, Rambo Amadeus and the festival locals, Urban & 4.

The farewell party at the lagoon lasted the entire day until the sunset, with the rhythms of Mahmut Orhan, the Turkish upcoming star producer whose hit “Feel” marked the official finale of the festival, first of the four in EXIT Summer of Love.

Next on the EXIT Festival Summer of Love festival run is the Revolution festival in Timisoara from June 1 to 3, followed by the 17th edition of EXIT Festival at the Petrovaradin Fortress, lasting for five days and nights this year, from July 5 to 9.  The Summer of Love finale will take place on the beach at Sea Dance festival in Montenegro from July 13 to 15, at the spectacular Jaz beach.

Jeff Mills to headline special No Sleep line up on Day Zero at Exit Festival!

This year's EXIT Festival will last for five days and nights, and its Day Zero has become a true festival in itself! After showcasing world-famous clubs at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Serbia and organizing parties in London, Barcelona, Brussels and other destinations, the revered EXIT's stage, No Sleep Novi Sad, will pass through its tunnel and spill over to the neighbouring mts Dance Arena, raising the flag of the first No Sleep Festival at Exit on Wednesday, July 5! Leading the bill in this endeavour will be the greatest techno icon of all times, a virtuoso who redefined modern music and culture, the one and only Jeff Mills! Especially for this occasion, Mills will perform a three-hour set which will have its finale with the almost life-changing experience that is globally praised sunrise above the Arena. He won't be alone in this undertaking because, straight from the center of the Berlin scene comes another person from an entirely different planet, Ellen Alien! Also from the European capital of techno, exclusively for the No Sleep Festival, two absolute techno champions, Paula Temple and Rebekah, will have their first ever, exclusive hybrid set! In another b2b premiere, UVB, a French techo producer in a dizzying rise, and Lag, a star from Exit's hometown Novi Sad with a rising international career that brought him his first US tour. The honor to open the sleepless night at Exit's Day Zero belongs to regional techno heroines, Marta from Slovenia and Sugar Lobby from Belgrade, while the closing set is entrusted to the mts Dance Arena residents, Dejan Milićević and Marko Milosavljević. Equally as exciting line-up for July 5th at the core stage No Sleep Novi Sad will soon be announced, where this special No Sleep line-up within EXIT will continue up to 9th July with already confirmed acts like Function, Bjarki, Antigone b2b Francois X, Dax J, Vatican Shadow, Voiski, Harri & Domenic, Denis Sulta, Dr. Rubinstein, Charlotte de Witte, SNTS, Leo Pol, Ben Vedren and many more.

Jeff Mills has recently again been decorated as an Officer of France's Order of Art and Letters while his audio-visual work is regular in Louvre. He is the founder of the famous Detroit techno school and its most famous organization "Underground Resistance" (The one and only UR). One of the pioneers of the art of mixing on three or more turntables is also famous for his nickname, The Wizard, which he got using in his sets more than 70 records per hour!

A top-class DJ and a person who doesn't recognize trends but creates them instead, Ellen Alien is at the same time the boss of one of the most important labels in techno history, BPitch Control, and the woman which made famous numerous artists such as Paul Kalkbrenner, Modeselektor, Apparat and Ben Klock! Last week she published her seventh studio album "Nost", entirely dedicated to the authentic rave energy of Berlin, and, coupled with numerous performances at leading festivals, it can be said for sure that this is the year of Alien in the techno horoscope!

Paula Temple and Rebekah had an idea to do a complex hybrid live performance at Exit with a special technical plan while their first meet ups on this performance already took place last week in Berlin. Known for being an uncompromising innovator, Paula has recently published her louded "Decon/Recon" project, while Rebekah is coming to the Petrovaradin Fortress with her new album "Fear Paralysis" (Soma).

Sebastian Michel, known as UVB, literally exploded at the international techno scene in the last couple of years, with releases which became regular during the performances of such legends as Mills, Dettmann and Surgeon. His sets are regular at the leading clubs like Berghain, Concrete, Tresor and Fuse, and he had a notable performance at Awakenings at ADE 2016 closing event. His colleague from Rotterdam's MORD label and Exit's resident Lag is back to the Arena where he debuted several years ago. His rise to the international scene brought him gigs in places like Paris, New York, Moscow and Berlin, to name but a few.

Free entrance to No Sleep Festival with any EXIT wristband!
All holders of four-day or five-day EXIT tickets or other EXIT festival passes will be able to enter free at No Sleep Festival with just their festival wristbands. Also, all those who visit the The Killers on July 5th at the Main Stage, can go later to mts Dance Arena and No Sleep Novi Sad stage which will, as usual, be open from 10 pm to 8 in the morning. The entrance for both The Killers and No Sleep Festival will be the well-known main Exit entrance (Lovoturs, no. 1 on festival maps).

This year's No Sleep parties in London, Brussels and Glasgow!
EXIT's No Sleep Novi Sad stage has a concept of having world-known clubs each night at the acclaimed Serbian festival! Previous years #NSNS stage had showcases by Tresor, Nitsa, Concrete, Grelle Forelle, Drugstore and 20/44, this year has Glasgow's Sub Club, Brussels's Fuse, London's Avant Garde and Parisian Concrete. Each year, No Sleep launch events take place in many of these clubs, and sfter Belgrade, Barcelona and Vienna, this year No Sleep events were held in Brussels and Glasgow. Charlotte de Witte and Fuse hosted Rebekah and our Tijana T on April 28, while Harri & Domenic hosted Honey Dijon at Exit's launch party at Sub Club last Saturday! Coming up next on June 2 is No Sleep London party promoted by the Avant Garde & Exit Festival at the legendary Corsica Studios featuring Fort Romeau, Jenifer Cardini and Man Power behind the decks! No Sleep stage will have its seaside premiere this year at the Exit's sister Sea Dance festival, where, among others, confirmed are Berghain residents Etapp Kyle and Kobosil, as well as Amelie Lens, Space Dimensions Controller, South London Ordnance, Filip Xavi, Insolate and TKNO.

Amsterdam Dance Event Announces Spotlight on Morocco and Hello DeLaMar, ADE Changes Venue

The 22nd edition of the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) takes place October 18th-22nd in the Tolhuistuin, Brakke Grond and Melkweg venues with the Hello DeLaMar Theater taking centre stage.

After 16 years in the Felix Meritis, the Amsterdam Dance Event, an initiative of Buma, will be moving to the Nieuwe DeLaMar Theater this year to allow major renovations to take place in its old venue. The Nieuwe DeLaMar is ideally situated next to the Leidseplein and De Melkweg and will also allow the event to bring previously separately-housed events such as ADE Dance & Brands under one roof.

“Having been sold out for the last seven years, plus with more delegates coming from an ever greater number of countries, especially Korea, China, Africa, India and South America, the renovation of the Felix Meritis offers us an opportunity to try a different venue,” ADE director Richard Zijlma, said. “We are excited and optimistic about the new conferencing and networking possibilities that the Nieuwe DeLaMar Theater offers, and we’re confident that delegates will find it a spectacular and inspiring space.”

New ticketing system
ADE has also introduced a new ticketing system this year that allows delegates to choose between day and night time activities with a 5-day Daytime-only pass now available. The classic 5 Days/Nights passes are also still on offer for delegates who want to embrace the vast range of business and entertainment possibilities that ADE offers each year.

Spotlight on Morocco
The 2017 panel program is coming together with Morocco under the spotlight in this year’s ADE Global View. The North African country currently hosts 15 festivals each year including Atlas Electronic, Oasis, MOGA, Transahara and Beyond Sahara that are almost exclusively dedicated to electronic music, plus a range of large events featuring world music (Gnaoua), jazz (Jazzablanca) pop (Vertigo) and sacred music at the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music. This forward-looking and liberal-minded country also has a healthy club scene with venues specialising in house music (Tamasis), hip hop (555 Marrakech) and techno (Pacha Marrakech, Amnesia) thriving throughout the country.

ADE’s conference schedule will also feature We’re Calling It Ethnotronic covering the growing electronic scenes in South America, Africa and parts of Asia where musicians are mixing local sounds with dance floor beats, Who’s Stealing Our Best Songs?, looking at the land-grab by publishers as IP rights on classic sounds from the 80s expire.

About ADE
Since its inception in 1996, the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) has evolved into the leading business platform of the global electronic music scene. It is the place to be and spot the latest developments: from musical trends and upcoming talents to the most recent output of dance’s pioneers and superstars.

The Amsterdam Dance Event takes place from the 18th to 22nd of October, 2017.
For more information about ADE: www.a-d-e.nl

The Amsterdam Dance Event is organised by the Amsterdam Dance Event Foundation, an initiative of Buma.

Both in the studio, where they cook up atmospheric house and techno with soaring synths and vocals and also in the live arena, where they are celebrated as one of the most accomplished and forward-thinking performers in the game today.

Say Lenny: “We’ve been exploring the theme of connection with this project. How technology gives us the illusion that we are closer to each other more than ever. At some point humanity crossed a line where the devices that we created to bring us together are the same devices that are blocking us from organic experiences.”

“Technology is only a tool, which we also had in mind during the recording process.” Adds Lawrence. “We decided to go back to how we used to make our records, when we didn’t have so many ‘sophisticated’ audio devices. Back to when we interacted in the studio together as musicians.”

The first Sziget was organized in 1993 by Károly Gerendai, promoter back in the days, and Péter Sziámi Müller, musician-poet. Since, Sziget has followed a super-exciting path. In 1993 the festival hosted 43.000 people to enjoy 200 music, 80 film and 40 theatre performances. In contrary last year’s Sziget hosted 496.000 people with almost a thousand program at more than 50 venues. Not just the number of people and programs has increased rapidly, but also the budget of the 7-day event: in 1993 the total budget was around 83.000 EUR, while this year the total budget is close to 2.2 million EUR.

Sziget started out as a cultural picnic organized for a bunch of friends, while today it holds the prestigious awards for Best Major European Festival twice, Best Line-Up Festival and just recently the Artists’ Favourite Festival. Sziget is not only the biggest tourist attraction of Hungary, but also the most well-know Hungarian brand. Szitizens arrive from more than 100 countries each year, who spend more than 42 million EURs while being at Sziget. The festival has contributed to the GPD of Hungary in the last 24 years with 320 million EUR. The Sziget budget includes only 1% public funds, but the festival pays back in forms of taxes more than 16 million EUR. This year organizers are expecting the 8 millionth visitor.

Although Sziget is proud to have all awards received during the past 24 years, the biggest achievement of all was to define Sziget and to find the uniqueness of the special vibe created during the 7-days. Also called the Island of Freedom, Károly Gerendai added at the press conference: “When talking about the content and program of Sziget we don’t necessarily think only of the headliner concerts, but all the small, colourful, spectacular and unique programs, that cannot be replicated. These can only be seen and felt at those given moments, when Szitizens wander around the island. These programs fill up the ‘Soul of Sziget’.”

The program structure of Sziget is one of the most diverse in the world. Besides all big music stages, Sziget has a world music stage for 17 years now, promoting colourful world music from all around the world. Understanding and feeling Roma culture has always been a key issue to the festival, Roma musicians have been present at the festival for more than a decade now. Sziget also supports the LGBTQ community with spectacular variety shows, awareness-raising film screenings, discussions, all at the Magic Mirror venue, that is one of the most popular venues on the island. Hungarian culture holds a real importance to Sziget, therefore a specially dedicated venue, the Hungarikum Village, shows the most iconic elements of Hungarian culture. NGOs are represented on the island for 25 years now, so Szitizens can meet various NGOs working in Hungary and abroad. Szitizens with disability are also welcome to the island, even alone as they can now ask for the assistance of the Let’s Go Out Association. In the heart of the festival every year the Giant Street Theatre brings a spectacular performance, while the various street theatres and circus performances have now become a must-see element of the program. A venue dedicated solely to classical music and jazz is also part of the Sziget vibe, while a special focus is once again put on the decoration of the whole area.

Tamás Kádár, CEO of Sziget Cultural Management and successor of Gerendai, has added: “Art of Freedom, once again received hundreds of applications from all over the world. The project teams show us an unbelievable new world with their imagination. These could be seen on the island in forms of giant installations and statues. Thanks to the enthusiastic artists Sziget will be decorated with amazing art, once again.”

Sziget works every year to enhance its green operations. This year the main focus will be to tackle the waste of drinkable water, so after receiving all necessary authorization, Sziget can start to decrease the amount of drinkable water used for various operations. According to the plans, the water of the Danube would be used for decreasing dust or using the Danube water as weight for ballast tanks. Thanks to last years’ radical changes, in 2016 150 cubic meter recycled waste was collected on a daily basis and 35% of this was re-used. This year 5 recycling centres will await Szitizens to change their waste to gifts and 150 re-cycling points will be installed. In addition, last year more than 2000 tents and camping accessories were collected and given to charity. Starting this year all catering units and bars will have the obligation to use only plates and cutlery that are completely biodegradable. No plastic bags will be allowed at any commercial units, all these objects will have to be biodegradable as well.

Besides developing the sustainability of the festival, Sziget carries important messages. In 2017, Sziget joined the program called Take a Stand, initiated by Yourope- The European Festival Association. Take a Stand focuses on involving and encouraging festival-visitors to take part in public life. The main issues are cultural tolerance, solidarity towards minorities and openness to mutual learning. Besides Sziget many other festivals joined this initiative as Roskilde, Exit and Lollapalooza.

This year Sziget continued a strong cooperation with Viber, one of the leading global messaging apps, and teamed up for a new, exciting adventure for their global fans – Mission: Szitizen by Viber. Sziget fans now have the opportunity to complete challenges via Viber to win VIP experiences and more amazing prizes at the festival available only to the Mission:Szitizen winning teams. Viber and Sziget continue to build the future of festival communications and a truly special festival experience. All fans can now embark on a unique festival journey through Viber and get a real-life taste of the party atmosphere via Sziget’s Chat Bot: http://chats.viber.com/sziget

„Viber and Sziget started a long-term strategic partnership in 2016, and we’ll continue to use the most innovative technologies to bring fans closer to previously unimagined experiences. Entertaining artificial intelligence, instant personal recommendations and dynamic visualizations will lead the users to the new era of the festival realm.” said Atanas Raykov, Director Business Development CEE & CIS, Viber

Nina Kraviz, Rødhåd and Nicole Moudaber Join EXIT Dance Arena Line Up

This year’s fast approaching EXIT Festival continues to announce headliners for its one-of-a-kind-spot, the revered Dance Arena. The sunrise at this colossal two-level fortress trench is considered as one of the life-changing experiences with many major global media outlets writing about it in awe. This feeling gets even more special on the last morning when all the other stages finish and the “pilgrimage” towards the Arena begins with people marching to bid farewell to another festival edition. The privilege to close this year’s EXIT belongs to one of the most significant artists of the global electronic scene – Nina Kraviz! The Siberian tastemaker is known for her musically uncompromising and energetic DJ sets where she plays music most others wouldn't dare. In the last year, her closing sets, seen only at selected festivals, got the whole planet talking. The final night at the Arena will also feature the modern techno sound of the Berlin hero Rødhåd, Nigerian-Lebanese DJ star Nicole Moudaber, our internationally acclaimed selector Tijana T, and the duo of rising domestic techno producers, Scalameriya and Ilija Djoković. The furious techno bill on Sunday, July 9th will be rounded by one more global headliner whose name will soon be revealed, together with the rest of the line-up at this year's Dance Arena.

Last summer Nina Kraviz conquered the largest European fortress with ease, and as she confirmed later in the VICE’s documentary about the phenomenon of EXIT’s iconic stage, the spectacular sight of the morning at the Arena was etched deep in her memory. Since the last visit, Nina published a superb mix for London’s fabric CD series, and recently also launched her new label GALAXIID, sister to трип, in the British capital's new venue, Printworks. She is resident at Cocoon in Ibiza and has been announced as a special guest at Afterlife, along with this year’s main electronic events who have her listed as the absolute headliner. For her return to Serbia this summer, Nina chose EXIT and the special “closing set” at the Arena!

Nicole Moudaber also remembers well what kind of energy can be felt from the hollow at the ends of the fortress and she decided to put EXIT on her calendar list, which is usually booked well ahead! The techno heroine and probably the favorite performer of her mentor, Carl Cox, has been showered with praise by the world media, and her sets, apart from Exit are also featured at almost all other major festivals. As one of the new icons of Ibiza, she is a confirmed guest at the popular residencies held by Marco Carolla and, of course, Carl Cox!

After Rødhåd had proven his dedication to local clubbers for the third year in a row, this summer it is time for his first ever EXIT! One of the most sought-after techno producers of today, apart from performing at the most important festivals, is a regular in well-known clubs, such as Berghain, Concrete and Fuse. His Dystopian label releases tracks from new generation of stars, such as Recondite, Vril, Alex.Do, as well as the EXIT's very own Tijana T! After scratching almost all important clubs of our time from her to-do list, such as Berghain, Space, Fuse, Corsica Studios, Bassiani, The Block, and many others, Tijana has some of the leading electronic music events in her itinerary for this year. It is also time to return to the place that she rightfully considers her “own”, from the days when she was the EXIT's spokesperson – to the majestic Dance Arena!

Join the EXIT fans’ favorite special offer, which allows the entire crew to buy four all-day tickets for EXIT, four three-day ones for Sea Dance, or four tickets for the entire Exit Adventure, and receive a fifth ticket for free! A very limited amount of tickets for this group deal is available at http://www.exitfest.org/en/tickets. Accommodation and travel arrangements can be found at Exit’s official travel agency, ExitTrip. https://www.exittrip.org/en

EXIT Team will connect four festivals this year, in Croatia, Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro into a great EXIT Summer of Love 2017. EXIT Festival will take place at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad from July 5 to 9, featuring The Killers, Liam Gallagher, Years & Years, Rag'n'Bone Man, Jake Bugg, Paul Kalkbrenner, Hardwell, Solomun b2b Dixon, Jamie Jones, Black Coffee, Hot Since 82, Duke Dumont, Robin Schulz, Alan Walker, Lost Frequencies, Noisia, Foreign Beggars, Princess Nokia, Discharge, The Damned, Black Dahlia Murder, Recondite, Dax J, Function, Antigone b2b Francois X and many others.
