EXIT Festival reveals Club Partners for No Sleep Novi Sad Stage

The famous No Sleep Novi Sad stage at EXIT Festival will once more invite their audience into a different world-acclaimed club on each of the four nights at the colossal Petrovaradin Fortress! The magic of certain legendary venues does not come from the bricks and mortar, but from their specific spirit, rich history and the program which has been in carefully selected since the previous edition. Last summer, this infallible formula was proven in practice by the three-decade old symbol of Barcelona, the Nitsa club, Berlin techno institution Tresor, and Concrete, the famous Parisian club, whose night was the antics right before the grand finale jointly put by Vienna’s Grelle Forelle and Belgrade techno cathedral Drugstore. This year, in the very well-known trench, from July 6 to 9, we are on the list for another four sleepless nights!

No Sleep Novi Sad pres. Club-Partners at EXIT 2017: https://youtu.be/jMdau0s8AoU

At the very start we are in for a huge celebration of 30 years since the uncompromising music got spun at the iconic Sub Club in Glasgow! “The greatest small club in the world”, as some popularly call it, was chosen among the 12 best clubs in the world by Resident Advisor, who threw a month of parties at 22 Jamaica St where the "Subbie" is at bay! Known for the exceptionally warm and intimate atmosphere boosted by the specially projected sound where the bass kicks you from the floor upwards, Sub Club has always been at the centre of the Glaswegian music scene which was first to acknowledge the likes of Daft Punk, Slam, Jackmaster and so many more. It would all be impossible without the resident DJs such as the legendary duet Harri & Domenic whose “Sub Culture” has been taking place every Saturday for the last 25 years, making it the longest residency in the world! The Scottish submarine prepared a special crew for this opportunity that will soon be announced, emerging into the fortress on Thursday, July 6. This night will be the part of “30 Years of Sub Club” tour which will also head to London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Athens, Oslo and other destinations.

After Berlin’s Tresor introduced the techno's present and past on last year’s Friday night, we are in for a visit from another monolith of the global techno culture, the club that has been opened for the last two and a half decades – Fuse from Brussels! Back in the mid-90's the club was spot-on to host the likes of Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Sven Väth and Richie Hawtin, while today they seem to pick all the next-gen stars like Psyk, Antigone, Francois X and Bjarki. Fuse's future is secure with the resident whose fame is rising at a dazzling rate, Charlotte De Witte, who is following the legacy of the legendary Pierre, the symbol of this Belgium club. From the same lab, a year later came the famous “I Love Techno” festival, whose first performers were Daft Punk, Dave Clarke and Jeff Mills. At the turn of the century, the notorious mix CDs came under the Fuse banner, which has recently started off as record label hosting some of the most sought-after techno producers like Henning Baer and Goldffinch.

Another anniversary will be marked at #NSNS when the favourite London hip place Corsica Studios opens its doors on Saturday! The epicentre of British capital's art life is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, and the hosts of their party will be the impeccable London promoter and a venerated club-night Avant Garde, that so far presented only super-exciting artists such as Pantha Du Prince, Royksopp, Modeselektor, Function, Pachanga Boys, and numerous others. Team behind Avant Garde are hosting many of their events at Corsica Studios which is far more than a club, having one of the best sound installations in UK. At the same time, it is also a cultural centre, a gallery, a creative hub and a place where the artistic core of the city comes together. This place and its DIY philosophy have grown into quite a phenomenon and you can see Thom Yorke, Jamie xx, Hot Chip, James Murphy or Little Dragon playing there. Just the other night, Bjork did a surprise DJ set and the Radiohead is launching their albums at Corsica. Techno icon himself Jeff Mills wanted to mark the 20 years of his record label Axis for 200 invitees witnessing a nine-hour set which, according to Pitchfork, left “grown men in tears”!

The finale at EXIT will also get super-emotional, since the family reunites: Concrete is coming back HOME! After the Parisians sent their "vanguard" quartet last year, the fully-fledged Gallic expedition is coming in twice the number, with the desire to turn the whole trench in front of them into the most famous boat on the Seine! When Resident Advisor placed Concrete among the 12 best clubs in the world last summer, their very unique story was dubbed “How Paris got its groove back”. The club was a spontaneous creation arising from barely-legal rave parties at various location. After a police raid, the final location became a sizeable three-deck barge, anchored in the centre of Paris. At the start, five years ago, the parties would begin at 7 am on a Sunday and last until 2 am next day. Later, other days were also introduced, with following all-night sessions, but on the 8th of March this year, it was the mayor of Paris that personally supported Concrete's new 24-hour licence, which meant that the club officially became an important institution of culture for the City of Lights! Unstoppable in their plans since the day 1, Concrete have since launched the revered Weather festival, along with their own record label while their residents are now well-established artists with busy schedules and rave reviews from the fans and media alike.

The list of performers for each club will be revealed in the following days, and after Belgrade, Barcelona and Vienna, the next No Sleep events will soon be announced, while a completely new, beach edition of the No Sleep stage will appear at this year’s Sea Dance Festival at the turquoise Adriatic coast in Montenegro!

OFF Festival Katowice: Everything from poetry to noise

As always, the OFF Festival is all about intense emotions: from Feist’s touching, ethereal songs to guitar-driven roller coasters like Preoccupations and Royal Trux.

Feist
Leslie Feist is a charismatic Canadian singer who follows her own path between tasteful indie pop and an original interpretation of American folk. She’s a favorite with audiences and the music industry for her unique character, a quality that’s most evident in her solo albums and her contributions to Broke Social Scene. Feist has been showered with trophies, including several Juno Awards and the Polaris Prize, and nominations to the world’s most prestigious music awards — the Grammys and BRIT Awards. Many of her songs have been featured in films, commercials, and the repertoires of other artists — James Blake’s career took off after he released his cover of “Limit to Your Love.” There’s a lot to look forward to this year, with new records coming out by both Broken Social Scene and Feist (her long-awaited fifth solo album), and — something we’re particularly excited about — the artist’s first performance in Poland. At the OFF Festival, of course.

Preoccupations
Another Canadian addition to our lineup, Preoccupations debuted in 2015 with the then-self-titled album Viet Cong. The band later discovered that the reference to the name of the Communist forces of Vietnam was too much for some people, so they rebranded themselves as Preoccupations and followed up with a sophomore release in the fall of 2016, the once again eponymously-titled Preoccupations. It was every bit as good as the debut, but much richer: a post-punk roller coaster with new loops and corkscrews, from industrial and noise rock to ambient and shoegaze. As one Pitchfork reviewer points out, Preoccupations is a nod to both Swans and Echo and the Bunnymen, yet the band communicates with its audience in its own vivid language.

Royal Trux
A band’s dissolution doesn’t have to spell bad news: the breakup of the punk act Pussy Galore, for example, led to the formation of two more excellent groups. The first was The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion; the other was Royal Trux. The duo formed by Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema spent the entire 90s exploring their own vision of noise rock (or rather noise rock’n’roll). This year at the OFF Festival, we’ll be celebrating Royal Trux’s comeback following a nearly two-decade hiatus. And we hope they’re back for good, because they’ve got the kind of energy the world needs.

PRO8L3M
Anyone who saw their mind-blowing performance two years ago was probably willing to bet a hundred bucks they’d be back. And that would have been a winning bet. But no one could have predicted that the nostalgic yet urban vibe of their debut album Art Brut would be reforged into the dystopian futuristic visions assembled on their follow-up concept album. Simply titled PRO8L3M, the record reinforced Oskar and Steez’s presence on the scene while proving that the horizons of hip-hop go on forever.

Made In Poland plays Martwy Kabaret
A Kraków-based band that evolved out of the punk crew known as Exhumacja. One of the leading representatives of the Polish cold wave, i.e., sulky, hypnotic post-punk. Revolutions in guitar rock took a while to seep into the Polish People’s Republic, so it’s no wonder that Made In Poland achieved cult status: they were among the few contemporary acts that actually responded to what was going on on the international music scene. Unfortunately, the lyrics to their planned mid-80s record Martwy Kabaret were rejected by the censorship bureau and the album was never recorded. It was ultimately released in 2008 as a collection of archival recordings which turned out to have retained every bit of their original power.

Shame
With their compelling music, political awareness, and highly-charged stage presence, this London-based group has revived our faith in young guitar bands. Cheeky and catchy at the same time, they nod to the rich heritage of British punk while incorporating the street sounds of recent years, from The Streets to Sleaford Mods. Their fall 2016 debut EP The Lick / Gold Hole earned an enthusiastic reception, and everyone’s looking forward to their full-length debut. And we’re looking forward to their show in Katowice.

Duży Jack
Originally formed as an excuse to play live covers of Starzy Singers songs, this band must have done something right, because they’re still here today. Duży Jack (“Big Jack”) is what you use to plug a big guitar into a big amp to make big noise, and that’s precisely what you can expect to hear on Uczucia, the band’s excellent debut record, and at their show in Katowice: pure, distilled hard core/noise rock/rock’n’roll.

Spoiwo
We always roll out the red carpet at the OFF Festival for representatives of the tri-city scene, because they’re guaranteed to be bearing gifts of intriguing and original sounds, and Spoiwo is no exception. Their trademark take on post rock has garnered attention from audiences in Poland and abroad. But that’s just what you’d expect from music that crosses genre boundaries.

About OFF
OFF is a festival for the discerning music fan and the place to discover the best alternative acts from around the world. A truly unique boutique music festival, OFF Festival takes place in ‘Three Lake Valley’, Katowice – a beautiful green oasis in the heart of industrial Silesia. Again from Belgium Fabrice Lig has created a sound of his own, inspired by the techno soul of Detroit, the spirit of Jazz and soul, the groove from funk music and the beats of N-Y 80’s electro. Last but by no means least Rebekah, who’s ferocious sound and love affair with the harder sounds has established her as one of the leading exponents of techno on the global circuit. Let her unleash the beast at Tomorrowland.

This will be the 6th year in a row Clarke has been entrusted with his own stage at Tomorrowland, a responsibility he doesn’t take lightly. Each year he aims to put techno firmly at the forefront at this globally renowned festival, bringing the best artists the scene has to offer to his stage with this years line up being one of the strongest yet.

With Clarke at the helm, this is going to be an electric mix cutting-edge underground dance music with something for every discerning music lover.

ABOUT DAVE CLARKE
He may be known as The Baron Of Techno, a moniker given to him by renowned BBC Radio DJ / journalist John Peel, but Dave Clarke has an anarchist streak a mile wide and punk in his soul, having no truck with establishment figures or authoritarianism.

A hard working purist, forward thinking futurist, technology geek, part Gothic and gadget lover who embraced the digital revolution in an early stage while his peers where still sniffing the smell of vinyl, a format he hasn’t used professionally in eleven years. It’s unsurprising he revels in the libertarianism of the World Wide Web. It gives symmetry to his savvy techno vision.

As a talented DJ and producer Dave Clarke will continue his newfound love for making music, gather air miles by the gallon and preach his vision on techno both on the decks

and on the radio, whilst never forgetting the long and bumpy journey he had to undertake to get where he is now: on top of the game, respected by both fans and peers and very much relevant in today’s scene. “He might be established, but he will never be establishment”. http://www.daveclarke.com/

One of the greatest bands of our time The Killers will headline Exit Festival on 5 July 2017! They will play at the colossal Petrovaradin Fortress on newly added Day Zero and lead the bill with Liam Gallagher, Rag'n'Bone Man, Jake Bugg, Hardwell, Paul Kalkbrener, Duke Dumont, Dixon, Jamie Jones and many more previously announced acts for the following four days of the award-winning Serbian festival. Since then, each of the band’s four studio albums has topped the UK charts along with many more all over the globe, selling more than 25 million copies! The Killers are known for their humanitarian work and social activism being of the main participants of global awareness campaign against human trafficking MTV EXIT, which was launched in 2004 at the EXIT Festival.

The Killers formed in Las Vegas in 2001 after Brandon Flowers, the frontman of the band, came out fascinated from an Oasis concert and published an ad in a local newspaper looking for guitar, bass and drums. They formed the current line-up in 2003, featuring the talents of singer/keyboardist Brandon Flowers, drummer Ronnie Vanucci, guitarist Dave Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer. The band has received countless accolades for their artistic achievement, including multiple Grammy nominations, American Music Award nominations, MTV Video Music Awards, NME Awards and more. The Killers headlined all the major global festivals, while also selling out largest arenas like Madison Square Garden and stadiums like Wembley.

EXIT Festival will take place from 5th to 9th July at the spectacular Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, Serbia. Tickets can be found at the official EXIT website and more acts will soon be announced for what is always a very genre diverse line-up that EXIT is known for.

Started as a youth freedom movement in 2000 that brought down the oppressive regime of Slobodan Milosevic, EXIT has since grown into one of the leading festivals in the world with previous bookings that include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Robbie Williams, Guns'n'Roses, Arctic Monkeys, The Prodigy and Motorhead to name but a few. As the only contemporary music festival that started from social activism, EXIT will mark the 50 years since the original 1967's Summer of Love and remind its fans of peace movement of the 60's, conveying the messages which in today’s world are needed more than ever.
