Octave One present Jazzo Reworks

With Octave One’s latest and great album, Burn It Down, still making a big impact on dance floors worldwide, the time has come for a top team of remixers to add their own spin on one of the tracks from it. That track is ‘Jazzo/Lose Myself’ and the remixers are Paul Woolford and Mat Playford, whilst new dubs and instrumental mixes are also included on this essential package.

Detroit’s Burden brothers Octave One are known around the world for their compelling live sets and have been for decades. That latest album was another broad proposition full of many analogue house and techno styles. The track that gets remixed here actually features vocals from Ann Sanderson, who also sung on Octave One’s multi-million selling hit, ‘Blackwater,’ so it has a nice sense of history to it.

Paul Woolford is first to go and is someone who has been turning out left of centre house and techno cuts on labels like Hotflush, Cocoon and Planet E For years. The Leeds based producer has a real understanding of his studio gear and always pack a real punch. That was never more evident that on this remix, which came about as Paul has said before that Octave One have been a huge influence on him. “My intention was to bring out the soulful edge of Octave One's sound and place it within the framework of a track that would work towards the end of the night." The result is a fresh and dynamic cut with rumbling bass, well treated vocal cut ups and a magnificent strong section that will have everyone reaching for the lasers.

Next up is Mat Playford, someone who has being doing his own thing for ten years plus on labels like Intimacy, Skint and his own Social Problem. As well as this he is a resident DJ and remixer for the much loved Hard Times crew and is a regard at places like We Love… in Ibiza. His rework is deep and melodic, with fat synth lines and smeared chords all adding up to a colourful and intense techno stomper, complete with joyous strings, for the peak time in the night.

As well as the original and an InstruDub from the 2014 vinyl release, this new digital package also includes the feel good, soul infused and party starting Ocapella version for DJs to use at their leisure. As such, this remix package is one everyone needs in their bag.

About EXIT:
EXIT started off humbly but bravely back in 2000 when it was a student movement fighting for freedom and democracy in Serbia. Evolving from the student protests of 2000, the expression of rebellious spirit of young people in Serbia and fighting for political change and freedom. In addition, EXIT has played a vital role in bringing together the new nations of former Yugoslavia, war-torn by the events at the end of last century. It is the social importance of the Festival that made it unique and globally recognized.

EXIT is a non-corporate event with a unique history, proving that music is a universal language that can connect and bring people together to make the world a better place. EXIT is more than just a music festival, where hedonism meets activism as EXIT continues to evolve and bring like-minded people together. Exit also supports many community and humanitarian missions.

Today, EXIT is globally acknowledged as one of the most popular European music festivals winning the highly coveted title of ‘Best Major Festival’ at the 2014 European Festival Awards and reflects how EXIT has grown over the years attracting a global audience of 2.5 million visitors from 60 different countries. Álvaro Soler winner of 2016 European Border Breakers Awards

Los 40 Principales in Barcelona, the Spanish artist Álvaro Soler is announced as the fifth winner of the 2016 European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), the European music awards for emerging artists.

Before Álvaro Soler's 'El Mismo Sol' became the ultimate 2015 summer hit, he had already seen much of the world. He was born in Barcelona with Spanish, Belgian and German blood, and he moved to Japan when he was 10 years old. After that, he returned to Barcelona and formed the group Urban Lights with his brother Gregory Tauchert and a college friend. This band made beautiful indie pop, but Álvaro decided to change his course in 2015, focusing on a solo career in latin music.

This resulted in debut album 'Eterno Agosto' (2015), of which the aforementioned single 'El Mismo Sol' became number one in Italy and then quickly took over the rest of Europe. With his recent European tour, Alvaro Soler’s goal of getting people in Barcelona and Berlin (if not also in Paris, Stockholm, Rome, and Amsterdam) to start dancing has been successfully obtained.

Earlier this month Carnival Youth (Latvia), AURORA (Norway), Oscar and The Wolf (Belgium) and KOVACS (Netherlands) were unveiled as 2016 EBBA winners. Five more winners will be announced and filmed, in the coming weeks, at destinations all over Europe. The footage will be part of a unique ‘road-trip’ mini-movie, which will be shared on the EBBA social media and website.

The EBBA are about breaking down borders and recognising emerging European rock, pop and dance artists who achieved success in countries other than their own. These unique European music awards are funded under the European Union (EU) Creative Europe programme. With the EBBA, the European Union wishes to highlight the success of 10 debuting European artists in selling albums and touring outside their home territory.

From Adele (2009) to Milky Chance (2015), the winners of the EBBA represent the full breadth of European talent and diversity. Other previous winners include Stromae, Emeli Sandé, Gabriel Rios, Hozier, Melanie De Biasio, Of Monsters and Men, Woodkid, Mumford & Sons, Caro Emerald, Lykke Li, Disclosure, Katie Melua, John Newman, The Ting Tings, C2C, Tokio Hotel, The Script, Zaz, Nico & Vinz, Saybia, Damien Rice, KT Tunstall, Alphabeat, Milow and Afrojack.

Europe's cultural and linguistic diversity is a strong part of its cultural appeal, but linguistic barriers sometimes make it harder for artists to work internationally and achieve cross-border sales success. The EBBA seek to help them overcome these obstacles.

To be eligible for the 2016 awards, the artists must have achieved border-breaking success with their first international release in Europe between 1 August 2014 and 31 July 2015.

Background
The winners are selected on the basis of data from Nielsen Music Control research, the European Broadcasting Union, EBU radio stations, and from festivals participating in the European Talent Exchange Programme.

The winners will receive their awards in a ceremony hosted by TV personality and musician Jools Holland at the Eurosonic Noorderslag festival in Groningen, Netherlands, on January 13, 2016. The ceremony will feature performances of the winning acts.

One of the winners will receive a Public Choice Award based on votes cast on the EBBA website from the end of November to Christmas. Up to 15 voters, chosen at random from different countries, will be invited to the award ceremony: each will be able to bring a friend and the prize includes their flight and hotel costs.

The EBBA, now in their 13th year, is organised by Eurosonic Noorderslag in partnership with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), with support from Buma Cultuur, the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Province of Groningen, the City of Groningen and Music Week.

At NPO 3FM in Hilversum/The Netherlands, the Dutch artist KOVACS was announced as the fourth winner of the 2016 European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), the European music awards for emerging artists.

With her raw and soulful voice, Dutch Sharon Kovacs creates beautiful, piercing music. Since the release of her debut EP ‘My Love’ in 2014, her star has been on the rise. Her single (which carries the same name) became an instant megahit on 3FM radio, and the station named her their Serious Talent in June of that year.

This summer, Kovacs performed successfully at Bospop and North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands. She also delivered unforgettable performances in Germany at the SWR3 New Pop Festival and at the Reeperbahn Festival. This autumn Kovacs is taking her music on the road with her ‘Shades of Black’ tour.

On October 9 the Latvian band Carnival Youth was announced as the first of ten 2016 EBBA winners. The announcement of Norwegian singer AURORA as second winner followed on October 12. Last Monday, October 26, the Belgium Band Oscar and The Wolf was unveiled as third winner. Six more winners will be announced and filmed, in the coming weeks, at destinations all over Europe. Oscar and The Wolf announced as winner of 2016 European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA) for pop, rock and dance music

This afternoon, at VRT’s Studio Brussel, the Belgian band Oscar and The Wolf was announced as the third winner of the 2016 European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), the European music awards for emerging artists.

The band from Brussels, who have been compared with Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver, achieved widespread success with their No1 debut 'Entity'. The album, co-produced by the band’s singer and songwriter Max Colombie, is characterized by music as dreamy and dark as their name. As Oscar and The Wolf put it themselves: "Our sound is electronica with a childlike melancholy and imagination."

Asked recently about the band’s name, Colombie, 23, explained: “Oscar is a name I really like - it’s poetic and light. And wolf is the dark animal that comes out at night and howls to the full moon, and moon stands for solitude and coldness. It’s bright together, because that’s how I see my music - as a balance between light and dark.”

Connected a new label for contemporary electronic music

Firm friends and confidantes since their days working at independent label Gee Street in the ’90s, Fetisch, better known as Berlin DJ & Producer Terranova, and renowned Brixton based group Stereo MC’s are redefining their musical relationship with the launch of their highly anticipated new imprint ‘connected’.

After the recent success of their collaborative Kompakt single ‘Tell Me Why’, the crew realized the potential in their collaboration and ‘connected’ was born.

connected’ is an entity where we can do anything we feel, make cool packaging, put other people’s records out, do great merchandise. It’s a concept for how we always saw all the labels we’ve both been involved in. We just wanted to do something we had control over we could call our own, and try to take to a good place” says Stereo Mc’s Rob Birch.

Distributed by Cologne’s leading electronic imprint Kompakt, the focus of the new label will be quality releases, distinctive artwork, original videos, custom apparel and live performances as well as being an outlet to combine and cultivate the tastes that the musicians share.

“As the whole thing develops, it opens up other possibilities for other records we want to put out. Under that umbrella, there’s all those possibilities. If people can get into the concept of the label, then everything becomes a collectable thing, that is part of it. I think there are still people around who want to do that, they want to get involved in music, they want something they can get their teeth into and really love.” Add Stereo Mc’s Nick Hallam.

And as for the musical manifesto? Terranova’s Fetisch adds - “Uniting the classic with the future, like a good science fiction movie. The slick ones are always boring, but things like Blade Runner, that’s always been the most exciting to me. We’re trying to create something as unique as how we met with an equality of how something should sound. Kompakt has given us the Freedom and Structure to move forward. The writing’s on the wall… .”

To celebrate the announcement of his new label in collaboration with stereo mc's -  terranova has once more teamed up with Berlin-based concept store No74 to release a limited edition package - exclusively available at No74 and on www.connected.co.com.

This limited edition package contains a sweatshirt bearing the label’s logo artwork as well as a connected lettering by Berlin-based artist Carsten Fock and comes in a run of 100. The package also includes a USB stick with an exclusive Terranova Dubversion of ‘connected’ by the Stereo MC’s along with a 60 min. DJ Mix.

Stereo mc’s ‘Deeper EP’ feat Terranova will be released on December 4th via connected followed by a collaborative album and various tracks from other like-minded artists. The release will be celebrated at No74 at a special event on Wednesday the 21st of October.
