The 11th edition of Bilbao BBK Live took place from 7-9 July 2016, welcoming over 100,000 music fans to the Kobetamendi Hill with stunning views across beautiful city of Bilbao. Boasting an unparalleled musical lineup, this year’s edition saw performances from Arcade Fire, Pixies, Foals, Tame Impala, New Order, Underworld, Editors, Grimes, M83, Years & Years, 2manydjs, Father John Misty, Wolf Alice and many more.

Playing one of only two highly-anticipated European shows Arcade Fire stole the show on Thursday with an unforgettable performance, which saw them play a career spanning set that included everything from ‘The Suburbs’ and ‘Afterlife’ to tracks from acclaimed debut Funeral. The same day also saw M83 bring new album ‘Junk’ to the main stage along with performances from New Order, Hot Chip, Years & Years, Hinds and Chvrches.

Fresh from the announcement of their forthcoming new album – the first without founding member Kim Deal – Friday’s headliners Pixies showed that there’s plenty of life in the band yet. With classics like ‘Debaser’ sitting comfortably alongside new tracks like ‘Indy Cindy’, Black Francis lead the band through an unmissable closing show. Pop queen Grimes tore through her set proving herself to be one of the brightest talents both in the studio and onstage, Ocean Colour Scene made a hugely anticipated return to Spain and pioneers Underworld also proved to be on fine form.

Co-headliners Tame Impala and Foals closed the show on Saturday night with two standout shows. Kevin Parker and co entertained the crowds with their laid-back psychedelic beats and proved themselves to be a worthy festival headliner. Foals were on fine form and more than proved their reputation as one of the most high-energy bands that modern music has to offer. Incorporating everything from early hit ‘Balloons’ to new album standout ‘What Went Down’, the band had the whole crowd in the palms of their hands for the duration of their typically raucous set. Other Saturday highlights included Father John Misty, Courtney Barnett, Wolf Alice and 2ManyDJs.

This year BBK Live introduced the amazing BASOA Space to the festival. Dedicated to bringing the finest in dance music to the Kobetamendi crowd, the new area played host to Ame, Floating Points, Four Tet, Erol Alkan and many more all in an incredibly unique forest setting.

Bilbao BBK Live 2017 will take place from 6-8 July 2017. Tickets are now on sale at bilbaobbklive.com.
