“This year’s IRF surpassed all expectations and the feedback from our radio guests has been incredible confirming that there is an obvious need by all stakeholders active in and with the music radio industry for an annual platform to meet, network, trade and swap formats, knowledge share and above all make friends. The 5th Edition, kicking off on 3rd September 2014, will continue serving that purpose with some special Pop-Up Editions being announced in the near future.” says event organiser Darryl von Daniken.
IRF Competition Winners
This year the IRF ran several competitions worldwide to find the best radio talent to broadcast their music radio show ‘live on air’ at the International Radio Festival.
First up was the 2nd ‘Sound of India’ contest, organised by Radioandmusic.com together with The International Radio Festival and Mixcloud.com. A jury helped shortlist and select the top six shows from all the entries submitted and the IRF organisers have selected RJ Jeeturaaj from Radio Mirchi, Mumbai as the clear winner.
Brody Ramone was the winner of the IRF 2013 ‘Best US/Canada Campus Radio Contest’ in association with HD Radio, CMJ and Mixcloud. Brody took clear first with her weekly ‘Dirty Glitter’ radio show on WBGU, the campus radio station of Bowling Green State University in Ohio, which showcases new sounds from both local and national artists and bands.
Mixcloud also teamed up with the IRF to find the ‘Best Internet Radio Show’. With over 200 entries from around the world Chris Coco’s Melodica was the winner with his weekly one hour broadcast of electronica, house and eclectic Balearic vibes.
“It was actually a lovely surprise to win the Mixcloud competition. I work away to put up a new edition of Melodica every Monday morning, and I know it is appreciated by the listeners because of all the feedback I get, but sometimes it’s like being in a little bubble of music, so getting recognition from an esteemed panel of radio experts gives me extra confidence and confirms that I should be proud of the show and what it does.” Says Chris Coco.
What the Radio’s say. Quotes from this year’s participants:
