Dave Clarke announces DVS1, Luke Slater, Paula Temple and more for his legendary ADE night at Melkweg
Anetha, Marcel Fengler and Terence Fixmer also play the multiple room club event.
Dave Clarke Presents returns at ADE 2019 for its 15th edition. The longest running techno event at Amsterdam Dance Event features the talent that currently resides in the real uncompromising and authentic techno scenes. This year Dave invited DVS1, Luke Slater, Paula Temple, a live performance by Terence Fixmer, Marcel Fengler, Anetha, Black Asteroid, Daniel Miller, Mirella Kroes and Mr. Jones. They will all play Clarke’s event at the Melkweg on ADE Friday, October 18th.
Many know Dave Clarke as the Baron of Techno, he also has a long history streching back 30 years with Electro with the popular ‘Whip It’ night being one of his most recent endeavors, so watch out for that ADE line up announcement.
A lot of familiar faces and returning artists for this intense edition of Dave Clarke Presents. DVS1 will bring his hypnotizing groove to the Melkweg dancefloor for the first time in six years. The diverse UK sound is represented by Luke Slater, one of Britain’s true electronic music pioneers and the relentless industrial style of Paula Temple makes a welcome first appearance to his event. Then there’s the long awaited return of Terence Fixmer with a live performance of his unique brand of ‘Techno Body Music’. Also returning from France is Anetha, the then upcoming Parisian DJ played an immense set last year and is now rightfully established in the scene.
Then there’s some more splendid comebacks. Crowd favourite and Berlin legend Marcel Fengler, Daniel Miller founder of the famous British Mute Records and Black Asteroid, the man who has started his career as a sound designer for Prince. The line-up is completed by Dutch techno veteran Mirella Kroes and Clarke’s studio buddy Mr. Jones.

Amsterdam Dance Event announce opening concert with SOHN & Metropole Orkest
For the fourth year in a row, Metropole Orkest is officially opening the Amsterdam Dance Event with a remarkable collaboration. On Wednesday 16 October, the world's most versatile orchestra is sharing the stage of the Rabozaal at Melkweg with songwriter/producer SOHN. SOHN's live electronics and beautiful voice are being combined with the orchestral sound of the Metropole Orkest under the leadership of conductor Hans Ek.
The opening night with the Metropole Orkest has developed into a permanent fixture for the ADE. After previous successful collaborations with Henrik Schwarz (2016), Jameszoo (2017) and Colin Benders (2018), the orchestra has once again taken up the challenge of exploring a different genre of electronic music. In recent years there has been a growing amount of live music on the ADE programme, and the orchestra's opening-night collaboration with SOHN fits this trend.
Artistic manager Robert Soomer:
“Almost straight after ADE 2018 we started talking with Melkweg and ADE about ideas for this year's opening concert. SOHN was one of the names that all of us thought would be a good option. His music is written from the perspective of a songwriter. He has a very distinctive voice and uses an exciting mix of electronics and analogue instruments to accompany his lyrics. With this collaboration, the mix will of course be very different.”
The opening concert from SOHN & Metropole Orkest will take place on Wednesday 16 October in the Rabozaal at the Melkweg. Tickets are on sale on Thursday 6 June at 10am via Ticketmaster and the ADE site. Holders of the ADE Pass can also attend the concert (limited capacity).
ADE Conference updates
Overall ADE’s daytime conferencing offer will look different this year as we adopt a more vertical, topic and theme-based style in order to help delegates navigate our program and get to the issues that matter to them. There will be a broader programming around the live industry, and the creative industry engaged with electronic music (read video, stage design, art installations and gaming). ADE Health will be looking at the true nature of talent in a series of panels and workshops featuring psychologists, personal trainers and artists.
Andy Ng, Group Senior Consultant at Tencent Music Entertainment (TME), is the latest addition to the 2019 ADE Conference speaker line-up. TME is the owner of popular music apps QQ Music, Kugou Music, Kuwo Music and WeSing. Recently announced speakers include Robert Williams of Chicago's Warehouse fame and club pioneer Ron Trent, who will be appearing in a Creative Keynote talking about the recent shows hosted by Williams under the Music Box title and featuring Antal, Trent and Danny Krivit.
Lisa Ellis, Soundcloud’s Global Head of Music and Artist Relations, will be taking part in ADE’s conference program, discussing how she intends to draw on her vast experience to help SoundCloud take the next step in its development as a global talent hub. This year Arcadia Spectacular returns to Glastonbury to build a gigantic new installation, and company founder and creative director Pip Rush Jansen will be at ADE to tell more about the project.
ADE Sound Lab, the platform for sound, creativity and innovation returns in 2019 with familiar concepts such as MusicTalks, Studio XL, Demolition, gear spaces and much more. Welsh music producer David Wrench will be joining the ADE Sound Lab line-up as part of this year’s focus on the fine arts of production, mastering and sound engineering.
100 Years of Electronic Music Instruments
100 years since the first musical instrument, known as the ætherphone – or Theremin – first emerged. The now iconic ætherphone seemed like a curio at first, but was really the beginning of a revolution. ADE will be putting this century of revolution into perspective, and reminding you of the wild, sometimes cracked, minds that have created or popularised the devices that in turn expanded our collective imaginations.
ADE TECH
ADE TECH’s first announced keynote speaker is Dr. Werner Vogels, Chief Technology Officer at Amazon. He is responsible for driving the customer-centric technology vision within one of the fastest growing companies in the world.
ADE University: What’s Next?
ADE University, the conference for young music professionals, announced that it will continue with She.Grows, a mentor program concept by global initiative shesaidso. Last year, Shesaidso.amsterdam and ADE University teamed up for a mini-mentor program available to five young female professionals, who were selected by ADE and shesaidso.ams. The first Dutch edition of She.Grows was an unqualified success for both mentors and mentees and will be back in 2019.
During What's Next?, a new University format, young execs who are well on their way and working up the career ladder will be given the opportunity to talk honestly about how it is to be in their shoes. In a rapid-fire 20-minute session, they describe how they got their first break, what they did to build on it, what that has led to so far, what they hope to achieve in the coming 12 months and what they ultimately want from their careers.
Access
The full ADE Conference program is accessible for ADE Pass and ADE Conference Pass holders, available here. The rate for both Passes goes up July 1st.
About ADE
Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is the most important business platform for electronic music and world’s biggest club festival. For the five days of the event, Amsterdam becomes the centre of the global electronic music scene and a hotbed for cultural and technological innovation. The ADE takes place from 16 to 20 October 2019.
For more information about ADE and an overview of the latest announcements: www.a-d-e.nl/newsThe Amsterdam Dance Event is organised by Stichting Amsterdam Dance Event, an initiative of Buma.
NOTES TO EDITORS:
About SOHN
SOHN makes downtempo, sultry electronica that sounds a bit like the subtle beats of James Blake or the solo work of Thom Yorke from Radiohead. His debut EP ‘The Wheel’, released in 2012, was a stuttering, restrained affair with falsetto singing that chilled you to the bone. This was followed by his debut album 'Tremors' (2014) and then ‘Rennen’ (2017). SOHN has already given two outstanding performances to sold-out Melkweg crowds.
About the Metropole Orkest
When you think about an orchestra, you think about classical music—but that's not what the Metropole Orkest (MO) play. What they do play is jazz, pop, soul, funk, cabaret, musicals, film scores and world music, from now and in the past. The MO has shared a stage with legends including Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Pat Metheny, Brian Eno, Herbie Hancock, Basement Jaxx and Bono, and has also played with modern talents such as Caro Emerald, Robert Glasper, Within Temptation, Woodkid, The Opposites and Gregory Porter. Together with the young British chief conductor Jules Buckley, the MO pushes the boundaries of contemporary symphonic pop and jazz.

Why ETEP?
"As proven by ETEP’s success, support-programs can work for the benefit of all involved parties - and without too much bureaucratic effort." ETEP interviewed Rembert Stiewe, Head of Orange Blossom Special, about engagement, bureaucracy and policies. Read it here: https://esns.nl/etep-qa-rembert-stiewe/
About ETEP
The European Talent Exchange Programme (ETEP) was introduced in 2003 to stimulate the exchange of European artists across Europe, and would not be possible without the funding of the support programmes for culture by the European Union. ETEP has been one of the very first programmes to support popular music on a European level. Currently ETEP receives funding by the sub-programme "Culture" as part of Creative Europe. To find out more about Creative Europe, please check https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/creative-europe/node_en
An initiative of
ESNS, ETEP facilitates the bookings of European acts on European
& international festivals outside their home countries and generates
extensive media exposure for these artists in cooperation with the European
Broadcasting Union (EBU) public radio stations, as well as national and
international media. Additionally, ETEP actively cooperates with 16 music
export offices. This way, ETEP aims to give a boost to the
international careers of European artists and highlights the participating ETEP
festivals.
Since the start of the programme ETEP has
facilitated 4.308 shows by 1.580 acts in 37 countries, and we are
very proud to have contributed to the careers of so many talented European
acts. Many acts that received support from ETEP at the start of their
careers have grown out to be very successful. Over the past 17 years, acts such
as Agnes Obel, Ásgeir, Ben Howard, Benjamin Clementine, Calvin Harris, Franz
Ferdinand, James Blake, MØ, Noisia, Selah Sue, The Editors, The Kooks, The XX,
Within Temptation and Years & Years have greatly benefited from the support
of the ETEP programme. More recently, acts such as Idles, Shame,
Alma, Aurora and Dua Lipa played some of their first international shows with
the support of the European Talent Exchange Programme.

For four days every summer, the 17th century Petrovaradin Fortress opens its gates for EXIT – the award-winning music festival in Serbia’s second city, Novi Sad. EXIT began in 2000 as a student protest fighting for political change, and over the years it’s grown into one of Europe’s biggest festivals, with [thousands] partying in the stunning citadel perched high on a cliff overlooking the River Danube. The positive activism remains in the air, and each year has a specific theme (it was ‘Freedom’ in 2018). EXIT has possibly the most diverse line-up of any European festival, with 20 outdoor stages that feature everything from death metal to pop, indie, reggae and techno – among cobbled paths, courtyards, grass verges, ramparts and underground tunnels. The Dance Arena is the festival’s energetic hub, with 20,000 raving in the fortress moat waiting for the awe-inspiring moment when the sun rises above the ancient walls. Many DJs say the Dance Arena is the greatest place in the world to play, and after Nina Kraviz closed EXIT 2018 with an extended set until 9am, she called it “one of the most special places on Earth”.

A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise is the Netherlands’ most prestigious music festival that’s been a rite of passage for the Dutch since 1993. It takes place in rural Biddinghuizen – only an hour away from Amsterdam, so there’s even a chance to add in a city break either side. It’s true music, arts and culture weekender, featuring the world’s biggest headliners on the circuit, as well as installations, theatre, comedy, film, debates and even science workshops. Each of the uniquely designed stages are covered so you can party rain or shine, and the iconic ‘Armadillo’ area is the festival’s power station, quirky bars, DJ booths and artisan restaurant areas that surpass regular festival food stalls. The Dutch are world-renowned as expert festival organisers, and Lowlands is a perfect smooth operator, from the intuitive layout to the lack of queues for bars, food and bathrooms – with the best campsite facilities of all the big European festivals. It’s a proper lost weekend too – Lowlands doesn’t do day tickets, so once you arrive on the Thursday you’re on a journey with your fellow happy campers until Sunday. This vibe was picked up by 2018 headliner Nile Rodgers, who posted: “Lowlands was fire! This was an amazing f-ing crowd! Truly insane, and that’s how we like it!”

The festival bottles some of the magic of EXIT’s dance stages and transports it to the alluring golden sand beach of Budva on the Adriatic coast, with narrow medieval streets just a short walk away. EXIT’s famous No Sleep Novi Sad stage is repackaged for Sea Dance, with over 100 performers shared around numerous other stages. Evan as a relatively new addition to the festival scene, Sea Dance already has a reputation for securing the biggest names in electronic music. Montenegro was recently listed by Skyscanner as the number one cheap holiday destination, with mountain biking, hiking and watersports available for those with energy left after dancing all night to the world’s biggest DJs.

Leading industry report reveals extent of UK festival and events diesel emissions and impact on public health.
With diesel emissions becoming an increasing public
health concern, World Environment Day on June 5th is focused on air pollution.
Award winning environmental sustainability management company Hope Solutions
and power management specialists ZAP Concepts have brought together key events
industry experts to produce an action research report. Thanks to the
collaboration of hundreds of major UK festivals and events, the report marks
the start of a major industry backed initiative to reduce diesel emissions and move
to sustainable energy sources to help fight toxic air quality.
With data from A
Greener Festival, Julie's Bicycle, Powerful Thinking and over 20 million data
points of electronic monitoring analysed by ZAP Concepts, the accompanying
factsheet is a snapshot of the impact of diesel use for power generation at UK
events and how it contributes to a very real climate crisis and public health
emergency.
This is a problem that can easily be solved, as reduced diesel use is financially better for the events and venues and significantly better for the environment. The events industry are working to understand and reduce their diesel dependence and call upon other industries to do the same. #beatairpollution
Key points from factsheet
- The UK event industry uses an estimated 380 million litres of diesel annually - That’s equivalent to over 150 Olympic swimming pools full of diesel
- Diesel use in generators at events equates to nearly 1.5% of total UK diesel use and over 8% of all ‘red’ diesel use
- 1.2 million tonnes of CO2e is released from diesel emissions in generators - Approximately the same level of emissions as Malta annually
- Emissions from static diesel generators at events are equivalent to adding 220,000 additional cars to the road every day
- It would take a forest four times the size of the West Midlands planted every year to offset these emissions
View factsheet here: https://www.hopesolutions.services/resources
Says Luke Howell CEnv MIEMA Founder & Director Hope Solutions: "Our findings show event sites in green spaces have worse air quality than inner-city areas, indicating a huge hidden contributor to the growing public health epidemic from air pollution. We are releasing this report to open up the conversation with the industry to effect positive and practical change without diminishing customer experience. For the organisers, every litre of diesel not used is saving money and contributing to the fight against climate change."
Says
Rob Scully MSc, Head of Operations, ZAP Concepts UK:"On average the UK event industry could reduce diesel consumption by 40% without risking any loss of power, any blackouts or any detrimental effect on the quality of the events. Venue managers and event managers should take professional advice in order to properly direct their power contractor and ensure that available power is matched to actual demand and where possible introduce renewables and other alternatives. The show must go on but it could go on in a far more sustainable manner, without risking people's health and without risking the planet."

Sea Star festival sends a strong peace message from the Croatian seaside
The third edition of the Sea Star Festival promoted by the award-winning EXIT team, and set in the lovely seaside town Umag in the picturesque Croatian province Istria, has ended on Sunday, gathering over 40,000 visitors from around 40 countries. Memorable performances by Wu-Tang Clan, Nina Kraviz, Sven Vath, IAMDDB, Mahmut Orhan, Ilario Alicante and Enrico Sangiuliani, as well as dozens of prominent regional acts, had Sea Star festival serve as a proper launch of the long summer season of major open-air events in Balkans including its biggest, the EXIT Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia.
The rap gods Wu-Tang Clan brought the turquoise Stella Maris lagoon to a boiling point with raw energy, rocking their greatest hits "C.R.E.A.M", "Triumph", "Gravel Pit" and many others. The emotional peak of the concert was the influential group’s call of for peace, which added to the overall message of love and tolerance in the Balkans region, sent from the festival's organizers.
Sea Star Festival 2019 - Day Two Highlights: https://youtu.be/mQCXzB0lHfA
On the night before, one of
the world’s leading electronic acts Sven
Vath and Nina Kraviz masterfully
led the audience all the way until the sunrise. The German father of techno,
Sven Vath, raised the energy up to the highest point with an ease of a true
master, leaving the command in the hands of the highly energetic Nina Kraviz who
gave an extremely inspired set, galvanizing the audience to chant her name for
two encores at the very end for a sight which can be seen only at stadium-sized
rock shows! The mighty Russian artist reminded everyone of her famous closings
at the epic Dance Arena stage of EXIT Festival, bringing that magic all the way
to the Adriatic Sea!
Sea Star Festival 2019 - Day One Highlights: https://youtu.be/leKGFPC9XfA
The summer fun started on
Thursday with a warm-up party at three stages, while on Friday the lagoon shone
in its full capacity and, among the first, welcomed to the stage the new rap
sorceress, IAMDDB, who charmed
everybody with her attitude and her fusion of trap and jazz music and popular
hits such as “Shade”, “Kurr£ncy” and “Drippy”. It was appropriate that the
introduction for her at the main stage that day was made by regional hip-hop
stars High 5, Fox and Vojko V, bringing the audience to a
delirium.
Sea Star also presented top-notch local and regional stars, such as Krankšvester, Hazze, Buntai, Phat Phillie, Smoke Mardeljano, Frenkie, Bajaga, Hladno Pivo, Nola, Mahmut Orhan, as well as fiery sets, brought by techno masters such as Enrico Sangiuliano, Marko Nastić, Petar Dundov, and DJ Jock.
Exit’s #ShareLove movement sends out a message of peace in the region
On the third day of the Sea Star Festival, at the exact time as the most beautiful sunset on the Adriatic, the #ShareLove panel sent out messages of love and tolerance! The founder of Exit Festival, Dušan Kovačević, Umag mayor Vili Bassanese and “brothers from Atlantis” – local artists from formerly opposed countries, Momčilo Bajagić Bajaga of Bajaga i Instruktori from Serbia and Hladno Pivo’s Mile Kekin from Croatia, once more showed unity to numerous visitors and journalists, highlighting that there is no room for nationalism and intolerance if we aim to create a normal, civilized society.
The next great stop in the
festival calendar is EXIT festival,
to be held from July 4 to 7 on the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad. This
year’s edition is the strongest ever and the main reason is the impressive
music program lead by the rock titans The
Cure, the currently most talked about rock act Greta Van Fleet, the unofficial king of the grime scene Skepta and the new hip-hop diva IAMDDB, the greatest name in DJ history
Carl Cox, the officially most
popular DJ tandem Dimitri Vegas &
Like Mike, as well as such hitmakers as DJ Snake, The Chainsmokers, Desiigner, Lost Frequencies, Sofi Tukker
i Tom Walker, bass heroes Chase&Status and Dub FX, electronic aces Solomun, Tale of Us, Maceo Plex, Paul
Kalkbrenner, Charlotte De Witte, Boris Brejcha, Peggy Gou, Jeff Mills, Amelie
Lens, Dax J and many others, on over forty stages and music zones all
across the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad. More info at exitfest.org.
Amsterdam Dance Event announces France as 2019 Focus Country
The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), the world's leading festival and business conference for electronic music has appointed France as its main focus country for 2019.
During ADE there will be a range of activities focused on France. Director Mariana Sanchotene states: “France has been one of the most important and influential music territories for decades, and in more recent years a really innovative market when it comes to electronic music and its sub-genres, in both the popular genres and more underground sounds such as electro and hip-hop. On top of that the French technological scene has been a successful breeding ground for music and culture related start-ups. During ADE we aim to showcase the best of the new players as well as pay homage to the rich culture that France has to offer.”
The Amsterdam Dance Event has grown into the world’s largest club-based festival and most important conference for electronic music. The event continues to develop each year, with last year’s edition featuring over 2,500 artists and 550 speakers in almost 200 venues. The five-day event runs from October 16th through to October 20th and attracts visitors from over 100 countries and features every conceivable aspect of electronic music culture, with dedicated conference programming and an extensive day- and nighttime art, film, gear, live music and pop-up program spread across the city of Amsterdam
The ADE Guesthouse to welcome scène in French Electronic Lab
Besides multiple events in ADE’s extensive conference and festival program, a major part of the 2019 focus will be the French get together at the ADE Guesthouse. On Thursday October 17th, De Balie will be transformed into the place where key players of the French electronic scene gather, to detail and celebrate the renaissance of one of Europe’s house and techno powerhouses. De Balie, situated 200 meters from ADE’s main venue the DeLaMar Theater, is hosting a day of workshops, panels, keynotes and presentations featuring France’s most active and relevant players from the interlinked worlds of labels, streaming, publishing, event planning, marketing and distribution.
“It’s now 20 years since the French Touch, so we'll be presenting the new generation of producers and DJs; the emerging stars, and examen what has changed in the clubs and in the festival & live event scene. We will also outline key contacts for all of those sectors,” Technopol’s Tommy Vaudecrane, co-organiser of the French Electronic Lab commented. “Our aim is to guide visitors towards optimising their business exchanges both in France, and with French companies abroad. Ultimately we hope to provide people with the tools to maximise their import and export activities and to facilitate networking and engagement with new talent.”
The French Electronic Lab is part of ADE’s 2019 celebration of France and the French scène, which is part of this year’s extensive Country Focus program in both De Balie and the DeLaMar Theater.
