Celebrating European Talent
Compared to Anglo-American music, the total percentage of music originating from continental Europe is relatively small. The Music Moves Europe Talent Awards are designed to accelerate the international careers of upcoming European artists.
Music Moves Europe
Music is one of the most popular forms of art, widely consumed, and a vibrant expression of Europe's cultural diversity. Music Moves Europe, the overarching framework for the
European Commission’s initiatives and actions in support of the European music sector, and Creative Europe, the EU funding programme for the culture and audiovisual sectors, aim to help the music sector flourish by, among other things, supporting the European Border Breakers Awards in previous years. As from now, to enhance creativity, diversity and competitiveness even better, this former prize is being replaced by the annual Music Moves Europe Talent Awards.
The Music Moves Europe Talent Awards are organised by ESNS and Reeperbahn Festival in partnership with Yourope, Independent Music Companies Association (IMPALA), International Music Managers Forum (IMMF), Liveurope, Live DMA, European Music Exporters Exchange (EMEE), Digital Music Europe (DME) and media partner European Broadcasting Union (EBU), with support from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Province of Groningen and the City of Groningen. The awards are implemented in close cooperation with the European Commission and financially supported by Creative Europe.

Fatboy Slim Announced an Exclusive Warehouse Rave at No Sleep Festival in Belgrade
One of the greatest DJs and producers of all time, and a relentless party maker Fatboy Slim will headline EXIT's whole-new No Sleep Festival on November 15th. This will be an exclusive one-off show simply dubbed as the Warehouse Rave which he describes as "one big intense party with plenty of lasers, dirty lights and smoke machines"!
The music selection will traverse from today's floor killers to classics anthems who are still shaking the biggest crowds around the globe. Known for his true DJ craft, Fatboy Slim brings in his highly energetic sets a spectrum of sounds from across the whole global rave movement that came about exactly 30 years ago in what was the Second Summer of Love in 1988! Acid synths, Latin percussions, piano rolls, string choruses, epic samples and other pillars that hold the global rave movement, will all come together at a party in a New Hangar, which is a mammoth warehouse in the Port of Belgrade, at the banks of Danube. Adding to the overall vibe, the venue is surrounded by cranes, loading docks, rails and a labyrinth of halls, while located just a mile away from Serbian capital's central square!

Joining Fatboy Slim on this rave extravaganza will be a back2back duo made of Life and Death's head honcho and a global electronic music aficionado DJ Tennis together with Berghain's resident and Berlin's techno legend Marcel Fengler! This unusual duo recently indulged in a mind-blowing 9-hour back2back set in the Parisian club Concrete, which was showcased two years in a row at a No Sleep stage of EXIT Festival. When asked to describe the sound of this unexpected duo, DJ Tennis replies: "It's techno but with a twist. Ravey and happy. It's also acidic, with some electro, it's fun. Girls seem to like it!".

About the acts ( A-Z)
Altın Gün
On their debut album ‘On’ (Bongo Joe Records), Altin Gun show what happens when you open doors between Turkish folk songs and a dirty blend of funk rhythms, wah-wah guitars and analogue organs . The Amsterdammers who come from various backgrounds (Turkish but also Indonesian and Dutch) comfortably create their work in the adventurous no-man’s land that exists between these two worlds. Manço, Bağcan and Koray have all influenced Altin Gün, but their foremost inspiration is Neşet Ertaş, a Turkish folk musician whose musical legacy is invaluable. You can compare him with the likes of Bob Dylan or George Gershwin to get the picture. The band performed over 100 shows in more than 10 countries this year and are ready to rock the world with a new album in 2019!

Baby Galaxy
Baby Galaxy are three friends from Maastricht (NL) who play wrangled and loud pop music. The band started when Nick Jongen (guitar/vocals), Robbert Verwijlen (bass) and Kees Berkers (drums) became neighbors and started jamming at their home in early 2015. A number of improvised rehearsal spaces and a musical repertoire followed shortly after. Intense drumming, bended guitars, harmonic bass and poppy vocals create an energetic, unique blend of indie rock. The nostalgic ghosts of 80’s noise rock and 90’s alternative rock can be heard shimmering through, yet Baby Galaxy succeed to create a unique, modern sound. Lyrically, the band mostly deals with personal issues in a creative and slightly absurd way.

Bazzookas
It’s a universal energy that comes from the beating heart of the 8-man-strong band. Based on a classic ska punk rhythm and happy rock-steady melodies, the band unleashes a stage energy that enriches really any festival. They roll up with brass instruments, bells and whistles in their big yellow American school bus, unpack, open up and go! In the recent years they already left their marks throughout Europe, playing festivals like Pohoda (SK), Colors of Ostrava (CZ) and Sziget (HU). On top of the release of the double album 'skaradio.nl' and 'ska.world’ in 2017, Bazzookas host their own eponymous radio station ‘skaradio.nl’ and released the ‘ska.radio’ app to make sure it’s impossible to miss any second of the infectious energy and catchy flow the band lives and breathes. At Reeperbahn Festival the Bazookas have been regular guests and they have always turned their discarded bus into a melting club. Satisfaction is guaranteed!

DEWOLFF
Dutch psychedelic southern rockers DEWOLFF are winning ground quickly with memorable shows at e.g. Pinkpop, Lowlands, Sziget, Open Flair, Rockpalast, Rock Oz'Arenes, Transmusicales and Montreux Jazz. They released "THRUST" - their debut album at Mascot Records - last May and have a massive European clubtour (58 shows) lined up starting right after Reeperbahn. Robert Plant, Roger Glover and Seasick Steve already turned into diehard fans, and how can they be wrong? So, you better come and check these amazing stage animals out before they hit it too big!

EUT
Bursting onto the scene with bold attitude, EUT brings a dose of energy to 1990s inspired tunes, drawing on influences from bands such as the Pixies, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blur, Weezer, Hole, Wilco and Beck. Fronted by the charismatic bundle of energy Megan de Klerk, the band crafts beautifully written songs with captivating melodies - all hooky, catchy pop tunes about youthfulness and growing up. EUT is dynamic and intriguing at once, without sounding too polished.

Inge van Calkar
Always dressed in white and with a matching white Fender Jazzmaster guitar as the finishing touch, Inge van Calkar is on a never-ending adventurous musical exploration, mixing pop songs, guitars and electronics on this curved and bumpy road, she occasionally crosses paths with the likes of Blondie, Garbage and Dua Lipa. Her first two singles from her upcoming album RESET, ‘I Don’t Mind and ‘River', were featured in some prominent Spotify playlists. These new steps puts her in modern times at a single blow. This is not your fragile singer-songwriter with a cute hat, as she likes to put it so beautifully. No, here's an artist who dares to stand on music's razor’s edge. Inge van Calkar's album RESET will be released September 29th in Vera in Groningen. Inge van Calkar's album RESET will be released September 29th in Vera in Groningen

Jett Rebel
The last 4 years in Holland, pop music took a turn and Jett Rebel was driving. You just could not ignore him. He's extravagant, pure of heart and does everything for the Music. Until it strikes him down. Sometimes literally... All Dutch media love to compare him with the biggest names in the history of pop music, but Jett Rebel is mainly being Jett Rebel, always trying to realize his personal ambitions. He wants to rock, rock and rock some more. An average Jett Rebel show lasts 3 hours, without ever losing focus nor energy. Like a passionate superhero he flies around on stage, coordinating every show with his charming enthusiasm, setting the band, as well as the crowd, on fire. Jett Rebel gives all he has got. To you. At a Jett Rebel concert he is there for you, and not the other way around. The last 4 years he played over 200 festivals sold out 4 club tours. If he's not on stage, he's in his studio recording albums. All instruments on his albums are played and recorded by himself, and (of course) he wrote all the songs. In a time where there's more demand for singles, Jett Rebel is an album-artist. They’re all stories with a beginning, a middle and an end. Every album has its own unique sound, because Jett Rebel constantly wants to reinvent himself. Feel free to hop on board of this high speed train!

Joep Beving
Dutch composer/pianist Joep Beving (42) was catapulted into stardom when his self released debut album Solipsism, initially made for family and friends, was picked up by Spotify and brought to millions of ears around the world. Where it was never really his intention to become a performing artist, he now is traveling the world and has played in sold out venues from the USA to Australia. Joep's music borrows from the classical vocabulary but seems to appeal to a broader audience, racking up over 200 million streams to date on the spotify platform alone. Following the success of his debut album, Joep signed to Deutsche Grammophon after their A&R person, responsible for new recordings, heard his vinyl in a bar in Berlin. He released his sophomore album Prehension together with them. While Joep is working on his third album to complete his trilogy, a side project was launched in collaboration with DG, to have some of Joep's compositions reinterpreted by other artists. This album, called 'Conatus', is scheduled to be released in September. After finishing his studies in public policy and administration, Joep spent a decade working in advertising before returning to his beloved piano.

Pieter de Graaf:
It can take a while for an artist to find their true calling. For Pieter de Graaf, he’s been searching since he sat next to his father, aged five, and watched him play the classics and the classical; the Beatles, the Stones, Chopin, Bach. As a teenager, Pieter de Graaf immersed himself in the world of jazz, dedicating hours to practice, and studying at the Conservatory of Rotterdam. For his new project, Pieter de Graaf went back to basics, resulting in the impressive debut album ‘Fermata’ and the birth of a new talent in the neo-classical world. His influences – Miles Davis, Nils Frahm, Rachmaninov, Bach, Chopin, Herbie Hancock, and above all Keith Jarrett – allowed him to combine easy melodies with more virtuoso passages without losing the meaning, or the essence, of each song. Surrender yourself to them and sink into their warm embrace; beauty is de Graaf’s true calling, and it’s a wonderful thing to experience.

Pip Blom
22-year-old Amsterdam based Pip Blom started writing, recording and releasing her own indie-pop tunes with a twist in 2016. Hours is still a live favourite from those early days. Nowadays, Pip Blom is a band with besides herself on vocals and guitar, brother Tender Blom on backing vocals and guitar, Casper van der Lans on bass and Gini Cameron on drums. They've played more than a hundred times in their short period of existence in the whole of Europe. They played small pubs and big festivals like Eurosonic Noorderslag and The Great Escape and were asked by Surfer Blood, Franz Ferdinand and The Breeders to join them on their various European tours. Pip's music did receive raving reviews from blogs and magazines (Noisey: "Pip Blom is ready to join the ranks of 2018's rising guitar acts") and UK radio loves her a lot. For example, she received acclaim from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, BBC 6Music’s Marc Riley (“Perfect pop”) and Gideon Coe (“Excellent stuff”). Both I Think I'm in Love and Pussycat made it to the A-list of BBC 6-music.

The Homesick
Dokkum, the home of, and probably the inspiration for The Homesick, whose sound plays on pop music. Not the kind with slick beats and audacious vocal effects, but rather the kind that is closer to The Beatles, that was created as an escape from reality and provides an antidote to boredom. The three lads from the North of The Netherlands make some pulsating noise pop that gets firmly stuck in the mind and on the dancefloor. Make no mistake, the teens run one of the best live bands around.

The Mauskovic Dance Band
With each band member of varying heritage, the group draws inspiration from diverse genres: primarily Afro-Combian styles such as champed, palenque, cambia and the pico sound system culture, as well as the Afro-Discoband No-Wave scenes in their current base of Amsterdam. The city’s hotbed of underground producers has also brought an electronic to the band, with vintage drum machines and synthesisers effortlessly melding with Afro-Latin rhythms and slice guitar riffs to create a contemporary sound rich with cultural influence. Having toured extensively through Europe in 2017 as a staple of festivals and clubs, The Mauskovic Dance Band continues to build exciting momentum - with appearances at Eurosonic Noorderslag 2018 and extensive tour of the Netherlands coinciding with the launch of the EP.

Five reasons why you shouldn't miss this year’s ADE
Amsterdam Dance Event is undoubtedly the biggest electronic music conference in the world. Starting out as a relatively unassuming gathering back in 1995, when just 300 delegates and 30 DJs were in attendance, ADE now attracts over 350,000 visitors every year. During ADE the dutch capital hosts a myriad events from countless panels discussions at the main conference through to pop-up performances, tech schools and even a cooking competition.
The event is one of the highlights of the electronic music industry calendar with delegates flying in from all over the world to network, collaborate and hit the dance floor. ADE’s impact is felt throughout the industry every single year, with thousands of meetings occurring across the city, creating new relationships and helping many aspects of the dance music scene to continue flourishing, from the studios of the world’s greatest producers and the boardrooms of the biggest labels, to the bedrooms of the latest new stars and the DJ booths of the hottest new clubs. A veritable who’s who of dance music superstars is also in attendance every year, putting on parties at most of Amsterdam’s clubs, from intimate, underground and quirky spaces to the superclubs, so whether you’re keen to expand your business, or you simply want to party all week long (or both), there is something to please everyone.
Here are five reasons to get yourself over to ADE this year…
Meet lots of faces (new and old)
With such a huge number of international delegates flying in from every corner of the globe, there are so many opportunities to meet people face to face. Finally you can put an actual face to the name you’ve been emailing for the last year, or maybe you’ll bump into a mutual acquaintance who becomes your next business partner. As well as the dizzying number of formal meetings that are organised every year, there are just as many, if not more, meet-ups that happen completely by accident - on the street outside the Dylan, in cafes and coffee shops, on the dance floor or backstage. If you go home with less than 10 business cards you’ve done something wrong…
Discover new artists
ADE has become a mecca for electronic music artists. The travel to Amsterdam in the hope of pushing their careers forward, getting management or a booking agent, finding a label to sign their music or a gig to showcase their talent. This means there’s a good chance you’ll discover someone you’ve never heard of at ADE, simply because there are so many musicians trying to break through. Label showcases, debuts for newcomers at some of the bigger parties, impromptu street performances or in-store shows, it’s all happening - you just have to keep your ear to the ground. From David Guetta to Like Mike, Matt Sassari to Truncate, Mall Grab to I Hate Models, there are thousands of artists playing all over town, new and old. A good place to start is the ADE University, where wannabe artists are encouraged to attend workshops, talks, networking events and panel discussions aimed at helping them to become industry professionals.
Trial the latest technology
Every year the industry’s technology giants fly in to Amsterdam to present the music industry with their latest developments. Ableton, Pioneer, Native Instruments and many other hardware manufacturers see ADE as the perfect platform to deliver brand new concepts and innovations to delegates. At ADE Sound Lab you’ll find a smorgasboard of studio gear and equipment designed for those who have a penchant for live performance. Contemporary artists such as Bonobo and Joseph Capriati will be giving talks, alongside the legendary Orbital, whose new album is due for release this year. There are also plenty of opportunities to hear experienced producers discuss their creative process and masterclasses where you can witness live demonstrations of how they operate.
Absorb a ton of new info
Knowledge is power, as they say, and one thing you can be sure of at ADE is that you will learn at least a couple of new things that may well help you to get further with your business endeavours. Attending the conference will give you lots and lots of insight into how the industry works, opinions from a wide range of luminaries from all different aspects of the business and a ton of information comes forth during these crucial discussions. Whether it’s feminism and misogyny, the inner workings of a manager’s life, mental health, intimate one-to-one Q&As with dance music legends or panels that focus on how to get your foot in the door, ADE’s conference is a prime source of knowledge for many many industry heads. Speakers already announced include Alex Boateng, head of the Urban Division at Island Records, Bruce Carbone who was A&R at Def Jam and Shanti Das, who will be speaking about mental health and her campaign ‘Silencing The Shame’.
Party with progressive people
The Netherlands is one of the most forward-thinking and relaxed nations on Earth. Progressive policies on drugs, sex education, sports, creativity and wellbeing have helped shape their society into one that is open, inclusive and a lot more mature (in the best sense of the word) than many of their European cousins. That means the rave experience is just as open and inclusive, giving you the chance to experience unparalleled dance floor energy. From Shelter with its distinct booking policy, amazing sound system and underground vibe, to the likes of Paradiso, Melkweg, Air and the stupendous warehouse at NDSM, you cannot fail to find somewhere that will blow your mind - clubs where you can make friends with other ravers, where security treat you with respect and where you don’t feel as though you’re under surveillance the whole time. Expect to see legends like Paul Oakenfold, Dave Clarke, Luke Slater and Laurent Garnier, along with modern-day heroes Maya Jane Coles, Helena Hauff, Rebekah, Tale Of Us and many many more…
