Dave Clarke reveals lineup for ‘Whip It’ at Amsterdam Dance Event 2018

Dave Clarke b2b Alienata, Umwelt, Ultradyne Live, DeFeKt Live, Sync 24, Jensen Interceptor and Brutuzz present at the electro daytime club event.

His moniker may be ‘The Baron of Techno’, but we can also permanently add 'King of Electro’ to Dave Clarke’s titles for his 30 year plus passion and support to the genre. This year ADE will see the fitfh edition of his electro-centric party ‘Whip It’ at Melkweg Amsterdam on 20 October. On the line up we will see the likes of Umwelt, Ultradyne, DeFeKt, Sync 24, Jensen Interceptor, Brutuzz and Alienata who will be performing back to back with Dave Clarke himself. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.

Directly after ‘Dave Clarke Presents’ on the night of Friday 19 October - the multiple room techno event which features Sam Paganini, Rebekah and many others - the party morphs into a day time electro rave in Melkweg’s OZ room. The third ADE edition of Dave Clarke Presents: Whip It starts at 07:00 and doesn’t stop banging out fierce electro until 17:00. Adding up to a total of 19 hours of party.

This Whip It sees the first ever back to back of Dave Clarke and Alienata. The Spanish-born, Berlin-based Alienata is a self-described sound obsessive, whose sets span obscure and gritty electro and techno, but the influence of idm, ebm, wave and crazy sounds in general are never far away. Which makes her the perfect fit for a b2b with Dave at Whip It.

Probably one of the most eye-catching names on the billing would be Umwelt. The Frenchmen is active since the first underground parties and raves took place and he is known for his fierce, raw and analogue sound. The mysterious Ultradyne has let the music do the talking for them and are rarely unmasked, which has not done them any harm in the development of a strong cult following around the world. Expect something special from their live performance at Whip It. The second live act is DeFeKT, he has been a tireless advocate of true electro and techno, steadily honing his hardware based sound. He has also established an impressive collaboration with fellow Dublin-based producer and dj, Sunil Sharpe, under the name of Tinfoil.

Another stalwart from the electro scene on the lineup is Sync 24. He seems particularly fond of collaborations, so you'll find much of his best work in projects with fellow electro diehards and label mates like The Exaltics and Morphology. Then there’s Jensen Interceptor, the Australian artist came up in the scene at top speed supporting the likes of Sven Väth, The Hacker and Boys Noize. With his selection ranging from Detroit Electro & Miami Bass to rolling Italo, thunderous 90's Breaks and driving EBM, Jensen's audiences are promised a sonic journey like no other. Completing this ADE edition is Whip It and Spacelab resident DJ Brutuzz. This is a true Electro event that is unashamedly underground and provides credibility in abundance from artists that have held the flag aloft with pride throughout the years.”

5 Reasons to Hit Lowlands 2018

Lowlands is one of Europe’s most famous weekenders that’s been a Dutch rite of passage since 1993, with a greater number of foreign visitors arriving every year. It lives up to its full name – A Campingflight To Lowlands Paradise – as Holland’s best all-rounder festival with one of the most eclectic lineups in Europe.

Set in the northern rural area of Biddinghuizen (try saying that after a few beers), it’s also one of the easiest European festivals to plan, with the site roughly an hour on the train from Amsterdam Schipol Airport.  With hundreds of performers on site you’ll find something to get lost in, from hip-hop and indie on the main stages, to snarly early-hours techno tents. This year a few big draws are Kendrick Lamar, Stormzy, Gorillaz, NERD, De La Soul, The War On Drugs, Patti Smith, James Bay, Nile Rodgers, Richie Hawtin and Kiasmos, but the list goes on. It’s no wonder it’s sold out already!

Here’s five reasons to take a flight to Lowlands Paradise...

It’s a proper lost weekend
The Dutch are proud of their work hard, play hard ethic, and Lowlands is maybe the biggest collective letting off steam caper of the year. You can’t buy day tickets – once you get your wristband on Thursday you’re in it for the long haul, no annoying Sunday newbies gatecrashing the party.

Organiser Eric van Eerdenburg says: “If you come to Campingflight you come in on Thursday and leave on Monday, there are no fresh virgin spirits coming in! On Sunday, people may be going berserk, but people are connected all over the field — it’s a dream place.”

No queues
Every UK festival punter has horror stories of missing their favourite band while they’re standing cross-legged at the portaloos for half an hour, or they’re 12 deep at a bar run by sloths. Queueing can knock the wind out of any festival experience, but there’s no reason it should be some attainable holy grail. Lowlands has a capacity of 55,000 but your wait for a beer is as stressful as ordering a pint at your local on a Sunday afternoon – no queues. How did these Dutch geniuses solve this eternal puzzle? Eh, simple arithmetic: hire enough bar staff, have enough bars and enough toilets. And their ‘Munten’ token system is a breeze too – just buy tokens from dozens of vending machines around the site and use them at bars and food stalls so there’s no waiting for change. Oh, and there’s no queues for the token vending machines either.

Campsite community
We’re setting the bar pretty low here, but punters at Lowlands don’t set the campsite on fire – a bit of a tradition at UK festivals when things get a little bit feral. The Lowlands campsite is a picket-fence suburb compared with the skid row UK version. There’s an abundance of toilets, showers, food stalls, art installations and bins – there’s virtually no litter. And you don’t see any belligerent messy drunks, everyone’s sound – even the lads last year in the camper van flying a Jagermeister flag like a Jolly Roger.

Not just about the music
Festivals have to stop pretending they’re ‘boutique’ as soon as they add a comedy tent, a yoga session and a van selling ostrich burgers with a handful of rocket leaves for a tenner. Most festivals these days offer other artistic alternatives from the music, but Lowlands has a spectacular alternative programme if you fancy taking a time out from the music stages. This year you can attend poetry and literature readings, the Dutch National Ballet, philosophy debates, outdoor theatre, cult movie specials and science seminars. And if you want something a little more daft, last year there was a giant washing machine that turned into a foam party.

You wont get wet (much)
Let’s not kid ourselves here – northern Holland is not exactly the south of Spain so you’re not always promised scorchio weather. You could be caking on sunscreen one minute, then ducking out of a lightning storm the next. Luckily you’ve somewhere to escape if it rains. Being Dutch and hyper-efficient, the Lowlands crew make sure all stages are covered – whether that’s the big top tents, the hangar-like Alpha main stage or the various pop-up clubs around the site. Beats standing in the muck at the main stage with a Pound Shop poncho billowing around your face.

Lowlands runs from August 17-19 at the Walibi Holland Event Center in Biddinghuizen, with camping from Thursday 16th. See lowlands.nl for details.

About the artists

Dakota
With EP ‘Leda’ and debut single ‘Icon’, which received critical acclaim from the likes of Noisey and Nylon, Dakota made the dream of introducing the world to their music a reality. The Amsterdam based band seamlessly blend California feels with garage rock and pop – their dreamy and hazy sound lulls and soothes, makes you close your eyes and drift away, before taking a swing at you and whacking you on the head with raving guitar riffs and pounding rhythms. Dakota's next release, 7” ‘Silver Tongue/Wanderlust’, landed favourable reviews from The Line of Best Fit and leading Dutch media, and got airplay on BBC Radio 1. ‘Silver Tongue’ is about dealing with that person in your life who tries to knock you down at every opportunity – it's an ode to keeping your head high and your eye on the prize. That’s exactly what Lisa Brammer (vocals), Lana Kooper (bass), Jasmine van der Waals (guitar) and Annemarie van den Born (drums) plan to do in 2018, as they write and record their debut album, planned for release early next year.

Iguana Death Cult
Rotterdam’s rousing Iguana Death Cult has claimed its own dominion inside the Dutch port’s concrete jungle. By bringing the best of Thee Oh Sees' wild garage psych, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's crazy psych rock and The Black Lips' southern garage together, this young quartet has revitalised the garage scene. Adding some surf sound, Iguana Death Cult mapped

out their own route, one that has been full of wild parties, including their own festivals, and crowdsurfing kids. The foursome’s high-octane protopunk and acid-drenched psychedelics create havoc not unlike a ferocious horde of bees. They cemented their live reputation with debut album The First Stirrings Of Hideous Insect Life and now they are back, bigger, bolder and rougher than ever.

The Homesick
Dokkum, the home of, and probably the inspiration for The Homesick, whose sound plays on pop music. Not the kind with slick beats and audacious vocal effects, but rather the kind that is closer to The Beatles, that was created as an escape from reality and provides an antidote to boredom. The three lads from the North of The Netherlands make some pulsating noise pop that gets firmly stuck in the mind and on the dancefloor. Make no mistake, the teens run one of the best live bands around.

Colin Benders & Metropole Orkest to deliver opening concert for Amsterdam Dance Event

Colin Benders & Metropole Orkest to deliver opening concert for Amsterdam Dance Event

The Metropole Orkest and the Dutch modular synth artist Colin Benders will jointly participate in the opening concert of the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) of 2018. This takes place on Wednesday 17th October in the Melkweg. Ticket sales start on Saturday, June 9th at 10:00.

After the successful composition and performance of Scripted Orkestra with Henrik Schwarz in 2016 and Fool with Jameszoo in 2017, the Metropole Orkest (MO) will return to the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), an initiative of Buma. The Grammy award-winning orchestra will once again organise the opening concert in the Melkweg this year and for this edition it will join forces with the Dutch modular synth artist Colin Benders (formerly known as Kyteman). Although he has distanced himself from his much-loved trumpet playing and orchestral events generally, he is experimenting with the Metropole Orkest (MO) under the direction of chief conductor Jules Buckley.

Starting point are Colin's livestreams with his 'machine' that he has recently launched. During these sessions, he improvised original electronic music from scratch. How this music will be translated into a live performance with full orchestra is still a question mark, but with the talent and experience of Colin and the urge for experimentation and improvisation of the MO under Jules Buckley. the partnership could well be a dream match.

Said Benders: "Jules and I have been talking about a joint project for years, but I never expected my electronics to be the trigger. This makes it a very exciting project that I look forward to with great anticipation.”

Colin Benders & Metropole Orchestra takes place on Wednesday 17th October in the Rabozaal of Melkweg. Ticket sales start on Saturday 9 June at 10:00 am, and tickets are available via Ticketmaster and the ADE site

The event is also accessible to people in possession of an ADE Pass.

About ADE
The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is the most important business platform for electronic music and the world's largest club festival. During ADE, Amsterdam becomes the centre of the global electronic music scene for five days and thus is a breeding ground for cultural and technological innovation. The Amsterdam Dance Event will take place from 17 to 21 October 2018. For more information about ADE: a-d-e.nl/about-ade

The Amsterdam Dance Event is organised by the Amsterdam Dance Event Foundation, an initiative of Buma.

About Colin Benders

Colin Benders celebrated many years of success under the name Kyteman. With his Kyteman Orchestra he played at a multitude of festivals and he toured through the Netherlands and Europe over several years. Since 2016 Benders has been completely absorbed by his modular synthesisers. From his studio, he takes the audience on his musical quest through livestreams. He also performs regularly in the Netherlands at venues like Het Concertgebouw but also at festivals like Awakenings and Lowlands, as well as abroad

About the Metropole Orchestra

When you think of an orchestra, you probably think of classical music. But the Metropole Orkest (MO) does jazz, pop, soul, funk, cabaret, musicals, film music and world music. The MO shared the stage with celebrities such as Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Pat Metheny, Brian Eno, Herbie Hancock, The Basement Jaxx and Bono. The orchestra also plays with contemporary talents such as Caro Emerald, Robert Glasper, Within Temptation, Woodkid, The Opposites and Gregory Porter. Together with the young British conductor Jules Buckley, the MO constantly pushes the boundaries of contemporary symphonic pop and jazz.

EXIT Festival adds French Montana, Joseph Capriati and ZHU to its star-studded bill

Straight from the top of many international charts, rap superstar French Montana joins the bill of EXIT, the officially Best Major European Festival, which will take place from 12th to 15th July at the spectacular Petrovaradin Fortress in Serbia. He will join the already announced lineup with Migos, Grace Jones, David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Ziggy Marley, Fever Ray, LP, Alice Merton, Nina Kraviz, Richie Hawtin, Maceo Plex, Amelie Lens, Ben Klock, Slaves, Jax Jones, Ofenbach and many more.

The famous rapper from Bronx has chart topping albums and singles along with three BET awards, three Grammy and one Billboard nomination. Last year, his multiplatinum hit, “Unforgettable”, dominated radio stations worldwide and today is only a step away from 700 million views on YouTube! He has collaborated with dozens of international music stars such as Migos, David Guetta, The Weeknd, Kanye West, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa, Jason Derulo, Afrojack, Cardi B, Drake, Rick Ross, while his publisher is none other than P. Diddy. Hollywood didn’t manage to resist him either – the soundtrack for Deadpool features French in one of YouTube's most trending hits - “Welcome To The Party”!

The list of EXIT 2018 headliners just got bigger: https://youtu.be/Ea-bl1LUba4

The festival's mammouth closing party on Sunday, July 15th features pretty epic lineup with David Guetta, Marin Garrix, Alice Merton, Nina Kraviz, Tale of Us, Red Axes and many others, but this grand finale bill just got much bigger! First to join the party on the fourth day at EXIT's Main Stage are the mysterious American hitmaker ZHU and the Dutch hit band My Baby, who have played Glastonbury six times! At the same time, the closing party at the spectacular mts Dance Arena will see one the next-gen techno leaders Joseph Capriati, the charismatic Danish producer Kolsch and one of Berlin's finest selectors Dana Ruh, supported by the excellent Bosnian duo After Affair! On the day before, the true Saturday's night fever will be brought by Solomun and Boris Brejcha, who will be joined by British hit trio Disciples, who have managed to introduce new megahits since their last EXIT performance, such as the summer anthems "On My Mind" and "Jelousy"!

The authentic spirit of Bronx, where French Montana grew up, and Morocco, where he was born, are more than obvious in his catchy numbers which have been driving the world crazy in the past couple of years. He landed into the spotlight after publishing “Casino Life 2: Brown Bag Legend”, which featured “Moses”, a huge hit and collaboration with Migos. He shook the music scene again when he published his second album “Jungle Rules” which immediately reached the third place of the prestigious Billboard Top 100. The main single, “Unforgettable” made it to the third place of Billboard Top 100, as well as the first place on the US Hip-Hop chart, achieving platinum in over 20 countries worldwide! He has a will of steel, gigantic ambitions and a busy schedule – aside from collecting billions of hits on streaming services, multiple awards and nominations, French Montana proved to be a great humanitarian and advocate of free health insurance. He also initiated a global campaign for building of a hospital for mothers and children in Uganda.

EXIT Festival will be held from July 12th to 15th at the Petrovaradin fortress in Novi Sad and feature some of the most sought after international stars such as Migos, Grace Jones, David Guetta, Martin Garrix, French Montana, Ziggy Marley, Fever Ray, ZHU, LP, Alice Merton, Nina Kraviz, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer b2b Ida Engberg, Maceo Plex, Solomun, Amelie Lens, Ben Klock, Joseph Capriati, Dog Eat Dog, Slaves, Idles, Jax Jones, My Baby, Carl Craig, Tale of Us, Kolsch, Sevdaliza, Helena Hauff, DJ Tennis, Daniel Avery, Rødhåd, Ofenbach, Disciples, Burak Yeter, Madball, Brujeria, Mahmut Orhan, Slapshot, Asphyx, Bombers and many, many others.

Tickets are sold via exitfest.org, while the official tourist agency of the festival, exittrip.org, offers tourist packages containing tickets, as well as accommodation and transport options.
