Dave Clarke New Album 'The Desecration of Desire’ Out This Month
After a 14 year hiatus, techno and electronic music icon Dave Clarke releases his third full length album this month, entitled 'The Desecration of Desire'. After teasing us with the fantastic first single ‘Charcoal Eyes (Glass Tears)’ featuring Mark Lanegan which received support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Radio X and club plays from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Len Faki, Nicole Moudeber, Marcel Dettmann etc, the long-time pioneer once again showcases his studio skills and musical vision across 10 tracks that go well beyond the dance floor.
Over the last three decades, Clarke has proved a singular voice in the underground dance world. As well as turning out essential tracks such as his famous Red Series, he has also hosted his influential White Noise radio show, which has just surpassed 600 episodes and remixed an array of artists including Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, A Place To Bury Strangers, Placebo, Underworld and Soft Moon.
The Desecration of Desire follows 1995’s collection of singles Archive One and 2003’s Devil’s Advocate, which came produced under various outside pressures. As such, this new album is Clarke’s first fully formed musical vision as he would want it. “I decided to write it as I would a book, so the track order you have was also the order in which they were also written, like chapters,” he says in the accompanying sleeve notes.
The album itself contains very little techno. “Not because I don’t like it—I live and breathe it every single week—but I wanted to make an album that was not a collection of club tracks. I listen to many types of music all the time and I felt free for the first time to implement this approach for my own project.” As such it comes coloured with the perspectives of “some delightful, intelligent and deep people who inspired me in their own way” such as LOUISAHHH, Mark Lanegan, Mt. Sims, Anika, Gazelle Twin and Keith Tenniswood.
The Desecration Of Desire begins with the arresting and abrasive sounds of “Exquisite”, with industrial textures and heavy broken beats immediately grabbing your attention. ‘Is Vic There?’ is a cover of the Department S classic that meant so much to Clarke when growing up, a dark, heavyweight, slow motion slice of new wave with LOUISAHHH’s simmering vocals finishing it in style. On ‘Frisson’, Dave teams up with Matthew Sims AKA Mt. Sims, bringing more moody post-punk tension with its cold and stark drums and rumbling bass, before the driving ‘Plasmatic’ is the closest the album comes to hinting at Clarke’s ‘day job’. On ‘Charcoal Eyes (Glass Tears)’, Dave invited former Queens Of The Stone Age and Screaming Trees legend Mark Lanegan to Amsterdam, where the pair recorded the single that has already proved such a hit. Lanegan also features on ‘Monochrome Sun’, a brain twisting track full of fizzing feedback and distorted drums, while ‘Cover Up My Eyes’ is a paranoid and post-human techno track with vocals courtesy of Anti-Ghost Moon Ray’s Gazelle Twin barely perceptible between the twisted rhythms and dense electronics. Another stand out track on the album is ‘I’m Not Afraid’, with sublime vocals by Anika and bass by Keith Tenniswood AKA Radioactive Man making for an irresistible blend of industrial funk before the grit of ‘Death Of Pythagorus’ makes for a bleak and cinematic end.
This is a coherent and cohesive album that is autobiographical from start to finish: it distills Clarke’s life long love of punk, new wave, noise and industrial into something truly original and wholly spellbinding.

Underworld to give keynote speech at Amsterdam Dance Event
Underworld to give keynote speech at Amsterdam Dance Event
Followed by live show at Rijksmuseum
Underworld are a true one-off - at home headlining the world’s biggest festivals and events, playing underground techno clubs and warehouses, sound-tracking theatre productions or taking over art galleries, disused shoe shops and Japanese department stores. This year at ADE, the duo talk through their career – both as artists and performers - in a festival keynote presentation:
The World of Underworld
Process and Co-Production
In this talk, Rick Smith and Karl Hyde – collectively Underworld - explore the importance and power of partnership and co-production in the development and presentation of ambitious and exciting projects and events both grand and intimate in the 21st century.
Underworld’s two and a half decade long journey has cemented their reputation as one of the most influential bands to emerge from the electronic music scene. At ADE, Smith and Hyde will talk through key points of their career in a conversation with Robin Turner (Heavenly Social/Caught by the River) that will focus on managing creativity and co-production through the world of music and areas far beyond. One of Underworld’s closest partners - tomato’s Simon Taylor - will provide a visual backdrop to the discussion that will include previously unseen images and footage from the band’s meticulously kept archives.
Having cemented their place in the ’90s underground techno scene, the group’s definitive breakthrough came in 1996 when their timeless anthem ‘Born Slippy (Nuxx)’ became the soundtrack of a generation after it was featured in the film Trainspotting. The success of that single catapulted the band from the underground into the heart of the mainstream. The following two decades saw them build on that success while never compromising; selling millions of albums, performing countless sold-out shows, providing scores to productions by Academy Award winning directors Anthony Minghella and Danny Boyle, exhibiting in galleries, and sound-tracking the Opening Ceremony to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The critical and commercial success of the band’s Grammy nominated 2016 album ‘Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future’ saw them headline stages at Coachella, Glastonbury and Summer Sonic.
Following the talk, Underworld will play a unique gig for ADE at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum on 20th October, in a rare opportunity to see the group’s peerless live show up close as the space is transformed into an intimate club venue.

THE GREAT ESCAPE 2018 ANNOUNCES THE NETHERLANDS AS ITS LEAD INTERNATIONAL PARTNER
Forget everything you thought you knew about music in the Netherlands. There’s a whole world beyond that one cacophonously hazy Gabber House night you think you went to in Amsterdam that one time but were too stoned to remember. And it’s all coming to the UK.
The Great Escape, the festival for new music, is excited to announce that the Netherlands will be its lead international partner in 2018. The Great Escape alongside the Dutch Music Export will be highlighting The Netherland’s music industry with performances from an array of the country’s most prominent rising stars.
The Great Escape is internationally renowned for breaking the best and brightest new talent from around the world here in the UK. For over 13 years the festival’s international partnerships have played a key part reinforcing this ethos, enabling new artists from diverse music markets to showcase their talents in front of The Great Escape’s extensive audience of influential industry delegates and festival go-ers.
The Dutch Music Export is a longstanding partner at The Great Escape festival, since year one the Dutch Impact party has been a highlight in the convention programme. For thirteen years Dutch artists have provided festival go-ers with many incredible and memorable performances, previous artists include; Jameszoo, Klangstof, Amber Arcades, Dope D.O.D and Jacco Gardner.
Booked to play The Great Escape and FIRST FIFTY this year is eighteen-year-old Dutch/Kurdish singer/songwriter Naaz, influenced by her migrant background she will relay tales of personal struggle and will capture audiences with her distinctive, haunting voice. Joining her is Amsterdam’s Pitou who is renowned for her dazzling array of influences, ranging from Bulgarian choir music to Sparklehorse and Joni Mitchell. Her highly anticipated self-titled debut EP was released last year on Scottish/Dutch label Mink Records and was greeted with national and international critical acclaim. Many more thrilling Dutch artists will be announced over the coming months.
Pitou said: "With Holland being the lead country at The Great Escape 2018 it's very exciting to have this opportunity which enables me to represent my home at this wonderful event by simply playing my music.”
Previous lead international partnerships have included the likes of Canada (2006), New Zealand (2009), France (2007) and Switzerland (2017), bringing acts such as Alvvays, Broods, Christine and the Queens and Carnival Youth to the UK.
Rudd Berends, Dutch Music Export Producer, commented: “Dutch Music Export is proud to be the focus country at TGE 2018. Our country has supported and attended TGE from year one with both the Dutch Impact Party and through various promotional support for our artists and industry. The UK is one of the most important countries for us to present the best the Lowlands has to offer and The Great Escape provides the best platform to showcase, support and promote Dutch musical talent to not only the UK but international music industries and audiences.
This partnership is made possible by the coming together of Dutch Music Export, powered by Eurosonic Noorderslag, Dutch Performing Arts and Buma Cultuur, with the kind support by the embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands.
Rory Bett, MAMA CEO said ‘At last we are thrilled to shine a spotlight on one of our strongest most longstanding partners, The Netherlands. Since the birth of TGE in 2006 the DME has worked alongside us to bring the best Dutch artists to the festival, our convention and line-up has grown from strength to strength with their support and incredible music scene. 2018 is the perfect time to put the very best The Netherlands has to offer at the forefront of our festival!”

Second Wave of Acts for ESNS 2018
The second announcement by ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) puts the spotlight on musical talent from Denmark, the focus country for the 32nd edition of the festival. For a relatively small place with a population of roughly 5.7 million, Denmark has been and continues to be an exceptionally fruitful musical breeding ground. And the delegation for Eurosonic Noorderslag is living up to the country’s historically high standards. Among other acts Dermot Kennedy (ie), Lorenzo Senni (it), Širom (si) and Zeal & Ardor (ch) are confirmed for #ESNS18.
15 Newly Confirmed Acts:
August Rosenbaum (dk)
BAEST (dk)
Bitch Falcon (ie)
Dermot Kennedy (ie)
KillASon (fr)
Lorenzo Senni (it)
Off Bloom (dk)
School of X (dk)
Širom (si)
Soleima (dk)
Velvet Volume (dk)
We like We (dk)
Zagami Jericho (cz) EBU act, recommended by Radio Wave
Zeal & Ardor (ch)
ŽEN (hr)
Focus on Denmark
Each year Eurosonic Noorderslag highlights a different country, showcasing the diverse musical talent across Europe. The choice for Denmark was easily made. Danish acts are regular winners of the European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA) with a host of acts such as Agnes Obel, Lukas Graham and MØ who have gone onto to have strong international careers.
Read more about the Danish acts in this announcement below. More Danish acts will be announced later.
August Rosenbaum (dk)
Danish pianist, composer and songwriter August Rosenbaum recently cooperated with Kim Gordon (ex Sonic Youth) on a score for the Royal Danish Ballet. He delivers an experimental cross-over of jazz and modern classical music.
BAEST (dk)
BAEST plays hard hitting death metal on thrash guitars, driven by the infamous ‘buzzsaw’ guitar tone used by Bloodbath and Entombed. Those Swedish death metal icons are, together with Morbid Angel (US), the main influences of this young band from Aarhus.
Off Bloom (dk)
Off Bloom understand what modern times are asking for. They threw out the rule book to create unconventional, eccentric and future-proof pop music, just like their influences such as Hudson Mohawke, Baauer, Major Lazer and AlunaGeorge also did. Eager to offer some glimmer of hope and solace in a dark world, this Danish trio and their inventive take on pop could very well be part of music's future.
Soleima (dk)
Soleima lives in a dreamlike modern world where garage and pop are just as cool as electronic and R&B. Her fragile sultry vocals and warm melodies connect with the organic electronic beats to form an irresistible combination. There is no doubt that Soleima’s music will get youths all over singing in the bathroom and moving on the dance floor.
Velvet Volume (dk)
Three sisters from Aarhus form the extravagant rockband Velvet Volume. Twins Noa, Naomi and younger sister Nataja started playing music at the age of three and five. In 2013 Velvet Volume was born, influenced by acts like Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, QOTSA and White Stripes (the outfits!) and since then they have taken the country by storm.
School of X (dk)
Rasmus Littauer, the man behind School of X and drummer for artists like MØ and The Asteroids Galaxy Tour takes the front with his new solo-project. Influences from Portishead, Lana Del Rey and Anohni to Frank Ocean simmer through his warm alternative pop and triphop.
We like We (dk)
The experimental neo classical group We like We consists of four classically trained musicians. Through their collaborative compositions We Like We wants to create music travelling beyond the grid of genres.

The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), the world's largest club festival and the most important business conference for electronic music, has completed its program. Between the 18th and the 22nd of October a record-breaking 2,500 artists and 550 speakers will perform at 450 + events over 5 days in Amsterdam. The organisers expect to welcome over 375,000 visitors for the 22nd edition.
ADE, an initiative of Buma, has grown rapidly in recent years. In 2016, the event played host to over 2,200 artists and 550 speakers in 140 locations. In addition to the growth of the extensive night program, the organisation is also focused on the further expansion of its daytime and early evening activities. The day program this year has added technology conference ADE Tech and the ADE Hangover to its growing array of daytime activities.
ADE Director Richard Zijlma is looking forward to the future: "The global electronic music scene is growing enormously, especially through various crossovers with other styles like classical, jazz and hip hop. During ADE, all these styles come together for five days all over Amsterdam, making the city a breeding ground for cultural and technological innovation. It's great to see that more and more professionals and music lovers from The Netherlands and abroad find their way to Amsterdam."
Zijlma’s hardest task now is visiting as much of ADE as possible. But it’s an almost impossible ask, with almost a thousand events spread over the five days. "In particular, I look forward to the opening concert of Jameszoo & the Metropole Orchestra, the programs of ADE Tech and ADE Sound Lab and of course the Philip Glass concert and masterclass.”
The latest additions to the festival program include a special concert by Philip Glass and the ADE Hangover plus Dekmantel Soundsystem (NL), Ellen Alien (DE), Kriss Kross Amsterdam (NL), Lefto (BE), Philip Glass (US), Shanti Celeste (CL) and Sterac aka Steve Rachmand (NL). Dave Clarke teams up with Anika on second single from new album
With the first single already receiving support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Radio X and club plays from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Len Faki, Nicole Moudeber and Marcel Dettmann, techno and electronic music aficionado Dave Clarke unleashes the second single from this new album 'I’m Not Afraid’, featuring the sublime vocals of Anika.
With a love of punk and time spent as a political journalist, former Beak collaborator Anika is the perfect match for Clarke. The resulting track features a devastating bass guitar riff supplied by Keith Tenniswood (Radioactive Man) matched with Anika’s assured vocals and poignant lyrics.
After a 14 year hiatus, this will be the second release from Clarke’s eagerly awaited third album ’The Desecration Of Desire’ which epitomises what Dave Clarke sounds like and speaks about, in 2017.
Says Clarke: “I bought Anika’s album from Get Records in Amsterdam when it came out, Masters of War was the track for me and I have always thought about working together on a bass heavy track and her lyrics here are sublime and political”.
Clarke is famously opinionated and outspoken and his music has always been just as singular and standout. Whether remixing Depeche Mode, Placebo or Amazing Snakeheads, serving up his legendary White Noise Radio shows or impressing with his DJ’ing dexterity at the world’s finest clubs and festivals, when Dave Clarke speaks, everybody listens.
Remixes to follow from Surgeon and The Hacker.

About the acts
Bazzookas
The BAZZOOKAS have been a kind of mobile fixture, if not mascots, of the Reeperbahn Festival for many years. Also in 2017, the yellow school bus will be present again, this year, however, in the new Festival Village on Heiligengeistfeld. The evolution of the BAZZOOKAS is equal to the discovery of gunpowder: when the Dutch band got together to make music, their ska broke free like an explosive blend. Since then the eight guys around singer Bazz Barnasconi have taken care of rocking the land up and down. In the Netherlands as well as in Belgium, Germany or France: everybody letting themselves go for this squad, being dragged into ultimate pogo-dance as soon as the opening starts off, just like a Formula One race car. They make whole festivals go mad at once, when they bring their music to the people directly from the roof of their school bus. Then the vehicle starts wiggling, its axles scream, and inside and outside the bus ska-express is let loose, shaking the world to the core.

Dakota
Do you know that feeling? That feeling of wanting to lay back on the couch, close your eyes and drift away to dreamy and hazy music? The Netherlands’ Dakota do just that. Dakota’s new project titled “Leda” blends Psychedelic guitar riffs with indie-pop roots, coming together into a neatly packaged 6 track EP. But don’t let this lo fi charm fool you, the live show of this four piece band gets you to the edge of your seat. They seamlessly blend California feels with Garage Rock and Dream Pop. Look out for Dakota as they make their way in the underground pop scene.

Dool
Emerging from underneath the fumes of Rotterdam’s vast industrial harbour comes DOOL. Dutch for ‘wandering’, DOOL takes their audience on an otherworldly journey through dark, melancholic songs, allowing only the faintest glimpse of hope and light to penetrate the listeners’ minds. When formed out of the ashes of Dutch rockbands Elle Bandita and The Devil’s Blood in late 2015, DOOL quickly gained a following after releasing their first song and accompanying video ‘Oweynagat’, resulting in both a highlighted showcase at Roadburn festival as well as a record deal with German ‘Prophecy Productions’. Their praised debut album ‘Here Now, There Then’ was released in February 2017, followed by two succesful European tours in the same year. All Those Who Wander Are DOOL.

Iguana Death Cult
Rotterdam’s rousing Iguana Death Cult has claimed its own dominion inside the Dutch port’s concrete jungle. The foursome’s high-octane protopunk and acid-drenched psychedelics create havoc not unlike a ferocious horde of bees. Iguana Death Cult is likewise hyperproductive, not to mention stronger as a whole that the sum of parts. And once you poke their nest a bit too hard, the band’s sheer propulsive force engulfs you from all sides and angles.‘Territorial’ might be the best way to describe Iguana Death Cult. Naturally, debut album The First Stirrings Of Hideous Insect Life is a perfect match for their well-documented dynamo-like thrusts and melodic squalls, which come as natural to them as a (Jelly)fish in the water.

My Baby
It hasn’t taken long for Amsterdam based psychedelic, shamanic trio MY BABY’s swampy blues and funk-inflected sound to cast a formidable spell, taking the world by storm. Over the past 3 years, Dutch brother-sister-duo Sheik (drums) and Cato van Dyck (vocals) and New Zealand guitarist Daniel “daFreez” Johnston have had their mojo working overtime and apart from touring relentlessly, they managed to release a new album called“Prehistoric Rhythm” this year. MY BABY’s music has been influenced by the power of spiritual music (gospel and voodoo spirituals) and the entrancing hypnotic quality found in music accompanying shamanic rituals. With the release of their new album, MY BABY endeavours to take the audience on a shamanic influenced musical journey. The new album brought the band some noteworthy achievements, like: First Dutch band to perform at the mainstage of the legendary Isle of Wight Festival, second time playing at Glastonbury Festival, airplay on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 as well as sold out European club shows.

Navarone
Navarone is a Dutch rock band that combines elements of soulful seventies rock with influences from grunge and alternative rock. Think of the classic rock, blues and progressive rock of the 70's (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd) mixed with the poppy grunge/alternative of the 90's (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana), topped off with more modern influences like QOTSA, Muse, Foo Fighters and Wolfmother. Add this along with an enormous live reputation and you understand why Navarone has grown into one of Europe's best, most versatile and appreciated rock bands in recent years. With their newest album Oscillation also internationally released in 2017, Navarone are now ready to take on the rest of Europe.
