Brighton Music Conference And British Airways I360 Support #Wemakeevents With Exclusive Djs Sets From The Viewing Tower
On Wednesday 30th September, Brighton’s iconic beachfront viewing tower, British Airways i360 will support the #wemakeevents activation in collaboration with the Brighton Music Conference. Having morphed from a hybrid to a virtual event, after the latest restrictions, BMC will support the campaign, with DJ’s Darius Syrossian and Alan Fitzpatrick performing on the glowing red pod from 6.30-9.30pm with their sets being recorded and available for everyone to watch on Thursday as part of their event line up.
Billy Mauseth, from Brighton Music Conference said:
“It’s been a tough year for our event like many others in our sector and we are really happy to be supporting this campaign to bring the city’s event industry together and highlight the talented people working in our industry who are unable to work at the moment and need support.”
Tomorrow will see Brighton’s seafront light up red from the British Airways i360 Viewing Tower to the Palace Pier and beyond in solidarity for everyone in the events industry affected by Covid-19. The activity includes all aspects of the industry from conferences, festivals, live music, exhibitions and begins in New Zealand to then travel around the world in local time.
Jacqui Partridge, from Partridge Events added:
“it’s great to have the Brighton Music Conference on board bringing together live, electronic and conferences all together for this campaign.”
The Brighton activation is spearheaded by a core group of event professionals including the founder of creative event producers Partridge Events, Jacqui Partridge and Ian Silcock, Ian Baird founder of EPIC and Whiskey Bravo Productions and John Wallis from Reveries Events.

Europe in Synch at Westway LAB 2020
Europe in Synch returns to the Portuguese Westway LAB in 2020, and will conclude the Music Moves Europe Initiative with a panel presenting its findings, its insights and its conclusions with regards to the follow-up project.
An initiative by music professionals and synch experts who have a wide range of individual professional tie-ins into the synch-business, since its launch at Westway LAB in 2019, Europe in Synch has brought into motion a curated process of networking, connecting, educating, communicating, creative and legal consulting, brokering and exploitation to open the way towards an optimized synch business for artists, composers and European SMEs.
Aiming at the synchronisation work sphere, Europe in Synch works towards territorially bespoke synch-business scenarios by bringing together the “Music” (European rights owners and composers) with the “Opportunities” (advertising and film production). When there are no synch deals done based on European content, that translates into less money, less jobs, and less EU musical culture in film and European advertising, North-American culture dominates our landscape.
Says project manager Markus Linde:
“Europe in Synch has, for the first time, brought into motion a curated process by addressing territorially bespoke synch-business scenarios. With our activities so far we have promoted the basic Europe in Synch idea and with quite some personal effort have tested the waters with proto-type events. The primary goal of this Preparatory Action has been to implement and road-test a workable scheme towards an optimized synch business.”
So far Europe in Sync has prepared and hosted one-day workshops at European music conferences (Westway Lab PT, SPOT+ DK, Live at Heart SWE, Sonic Visions LUX, MENT SLO) bringing together more than 50 participants from the music side with selected senior experts from the world of advertising followed by a public panel presenting the project and the findings of the sessions.
During the 2019 Reeperbahn Festival, Europe in Sync initiated and co-hosted a proto-type Meet&Mingle event bringing together for the first time synch professionals from the music side with creatives and producers from the advertising sector, where a panel discussion introduced the parties and the EinS project and diagnosed the need and willingness for a creative dialogue.
The film/TV sector is addressed in a proto-type Film Brokering event digitally staged in Lisbon in September 2020 in partnerships with ICA, the Portuguese Film Institute. For the first time in Portugal, this film-music brokering-session brings together film-makers in search of music with music-professionals creating film-music or representing music catalogues and music supervisors.
In October 2020 Europe in Sync will conclude its program at the Westway LAB music conference with a panel presenting its findings, its insights and its conclusions for the next step. The findings are being analyzed thoroughly and will become the foundation and the framework for a larger long-term project. The three managers of the project have announced that reactions, input, demand and encouragement have been such, that it is safe to say that EinS will resume its mission beyond 2020.

ESNS 2021 Announce Thirty-fifth Edition, to be both Physical and Digital with Focus on European music during European Music Week
The conference and showcase festival ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) will go ahead as live as possible in 2021. Taking place in Groningen from 13 to 16 January 2021, ESNS is the key exchange and networking platform for European music, European artists, international music industry, production and interactive professionals, companies and organisations.
The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic for the music sector have been disastrous. The worldwide shutdown of almost every live event means an unprecedented blow for everyone working in this sector.
Creative director Robert Meijerink: “There’s all the more reason to get together again in Groningen in January 2021 and to review and anticipate the future. It is precisely these uncertain times that call for an opportunity to open the dialogue, to support and inspire, to learn from each other and ultimately to regain trust for hopeful times ahead. Last but not least, ESNS wants to organise an event that does justice to its mission; stimulating and promoting the circulation of new European music. The necessity has never been so great.”
ESNS 2021 will be preceded by the European Music Week; a digital platform in which a large number of partners join forces to promote (new) European music and give the European live music sector centre stage. With this, ESNS and its partners want to make a constructive contribution to a new future for European pop music.
In many ways, the 35th edition will be different from previous years. The current restrictions to contain the pandemic require the necessary adjustments for the physical edition, but this edition is widely supported in a digital form, both for the conference and the showcase festival. Either way, the focus on Europe is greater than ever. While ESNS previously highlighted a focus country every year, for its upcoming edition ESNS chose to focus on all of Europe.
This modified edition gives ESNS the opportunity to once again offer emerging European talent to take centre stage at Eurosonic with the presentation of the Music Moves Europe Talent Awards on Friday and Dutch talent will perform at Noorderslag, the traditional barometer of Dutch pop music. The conference provides extended networking and business opportunities where delegates engage in dialogue to discuss the state of the industry and how to deal with the current crisis. Both the festival and the conference are organised with the safety of visitors, delegates and artists as the highest priority. In addition, ESNS provides sufficient and safe facilities for the international media that travel to Groningen to report on ESNS 2021.
ESNS director Dago Houben said:
“The music sector has been hit hard. But we feel strengthened by the hundreds of music professionals from home and abroad who have still bought a registration for ESNS 2021 in recent months, despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. We feel that as a call from the sector. In addition, we receive tremendous support from a large number of partners, not to mention the authorities who indirectly supported us to let us do what we are good at; stimulate the circulation of European music. This extra support gives us the opportunity to drastically reduce the price of our event to make it as accessible as possible for everyone. We are developing an accessible digital edition for people who are not yet allowed to, or who are otherwise not able to travel.”
The ESNS team is working hard on the festival and the conference program to adhere to all applicable guidelines.
Details will become clear in the coming month and will be announced as soon as possible. ESNS is giving a substantial discount on conference tickets for the 2021 edition.
Tickets
The conference ticket price for 2021 will be a fixed price of € 195 and the ticket for Young professionals (<28 years) will be € 115. This includes access to the digital environment with live streams, on demand panels and showcases, access to a network environment and database. The ticket to enter the digital offer is € 50,-. Registrations are available through esns.nl. For those who have already purchased a registration, a suitable solution is available and will be notified.
About ESNS
ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) is the key exchange platform for emerging European music talent, with a proven track record of helping to break new acts on the international music scene. ESNS stages showcases alongside offering a full conference programme with panels and keynotes, alongside multiple networking opportunities and award ceremonies. The event attracts conference delegates from all sections of the entertainment industry, including representatives of over festivals from all over the world.

WESTWAY LAB GOES HYBRID FOR 2020
The world has changed, but Westway LAB 2020 has adapted and after postponing their event in April, a hybrid configuration of physical participation along with digital access to its concerts and conferencing will now take from 14th to 17th October.
Westway LAB will kick off their 7th edition by celebrating the legacy of the first 6 years of co-creation and artist residencies on the Wednesday evening with a live-streamed soirée of amazing music created in Guimarães, by previous artists-in-residence.

The conference’s 30 sessions are organized in four conference tracks this year: Westway PRO, INES Sessions - Innovation Network of European Showcases, WHY Portugal Event, which is focused on exporting Portuguese new music, and the new Digital Music Days conference, which AMAEI started last year.
There will also be streamed shows on the digital platform from the following artists; Julian Zyklus (It) Etep, Hickeys (Es) Etep, Aka Neomi (Si) Ines, Misia Furtak (Pl) Ines, Lily Arbor (Se) Ines, Carnival Youth (Lv), Jack Found (Uk), Samuel Coelho (Pt), Anibal Zola (Pt), André Júlio, Turquesa (Pt), Yosune (Pt).
Further digital surprises are also planned, to show Guimarães, from Westway LAB to the world. More info to be announced.

The guests this year are Lena Obara, from Berlin, specializing in film, and Vanessa Jorge Perry, working the complex world of trailers in Los Angeles, also having a special connection to Portugal.
11H00 | INES Session #3: The Future of Public Radio in Europe
Westway LAB, together with its media partner Antena 3, is honored to host two living legends of European Public Radio to debate the present and future of public radio in the European context - both from the political as well as digital perspectives, might radio actually be threatened in the XXI century? Vic Galloway from BBC Scotland and Laurent Marceau of EBU - European Broadcasters Union debate this important theme with a special moderator from Antena 3.
12H00 | Europe in Synch: Project Findings and Final Report Preparation
Music Moves Europe preparatory action “Europe in Synch”, trains young professionals while seeking useful support mechanisms for music for the next Creative Europe programme, 2021-2027. Coda Agency represents over 800 artists and has builts its reputation launching new talents, with several names high-lighted in recent years, such as Bastille, Ellie Goulding, Liam Gallagher, Years & Years, SIA, Disclosure, Rudimental or Prodigy. When? And how...?
16 October - Friday
10H00 | INES Session #5: The Future of Music Journalism
The media landscape has been changing over the years with less music publications surviving in print and Covid-19 accelerating the fate of some of our best known titles across Europe. Charlotte Gunn (editor Forty Five, ex NME editor) and more tba
11H00 | GDA Session - Artist Performing Rights Society Session
GDA - The Portuguese Artist Performing Rights Society presents its annual session at Westway LAB PRO. If in previous year it presented new artist-facing platforms such as Faniak, and also introduced several new mechanisms of cultural and social support via its GDA Foundation - including Portugal’s first international showcase support mechanism, in this year of 2020 the discussion will be oriented towards the augmented relevance of digital music, as well as the importance of neighbouring rights in the post-Covid-19 world.
12H00 | INES Session #6: Spain, the neighbour next door?
Westway LAB has already hosted, in previous editions, country focuses to Austria and Canada. Spain, however close, remains a conundrum, apparently hard to unite even in a musical context. Our neighbours? Yes, but which ones? Will Westway LAB succeed in having Spain as our country focus next year? Reps from Live Nation Spain, Last Tour and the export office from the Ballearic Isles discuss this theme.
15H00 | Westway PRO: National Keynote - Roberta Medina, Rock in Rio
Rock in Rio. Rock in Rio Lisboa. Better World. A life in music! Westway LAB is proud to present Roberta Medina as our national keynote of 2020. What was meant to be a retrospective of Roberta’s career and the major event that is Rock in Rio Lisboa now also looks to the future as we ask Roberta for her outlook on live events in a post-Covid world. What can we do in music to make this planet a better world?
16H30 | INES Session #7: Digital Music Days
AMAEI presents the 2nd edition of its Digital Music Days conference, with two days dedicated to the learning and updating of knowledge and best practices with regards to DSPs - Digital Service Providers. After the success of its first edition, sponsored by MERLIN, at the CCB in Lisbon last November, this second edition promises great developments in the Portuguese digital music panorama. The second edition of Digital Music Days will take place on October 15th and 16th offering all Westway LAB delegates additional panels to attend.
17 October - Saturday
10H00 | INES Session #1: Artist Management in Europe
Guna Zučika, from Every Little Thing (LV), is the artist manager for Carnival Youth, who built up their touring career via the showcase festival circuit, Eurosonic, and a synch deal via a Denmark-based campaign that helped them cross borders. Could this great example of career development from a small peripheric country on the other end of Europe teach some best practices for Portuguese artists and their managers? We believe so and kick off the 7th edition of Westway LAB with this highly motivational session – it might even attract a very special guest from Denmark!

EXIT Festival started celebrating its 20th anniversary with four day long ‘Life Stream’ Festival which took place last weekend in front of an audience 2000 people at magnificent Petrovaradin fortress.
The ‘Life Steam’ project, realized in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), brought to Novi Sad some of the biggest artists in electronic music history such as Carl Cox, Charlotte de Witte, Nina Kraviz, Adam Beyer, Black Coffee, Hot Since 82, Paul van Dyk and many more. Artists performed either live or virtual onone of the most spectacular productions of the yearthat was specially built for this occasion on area of world renowned EXIT Dance Arena that usually receives more than 20.000 people. With this project, EXIT became one of the few music festivals in the world that managed to produce live festival performance in 2020, after being postponed twice due to the epidemic peaks in Serbia.
EXIT LIFE STREAM | Thank you: https://youtu.be/c7_rY0JP-Zg
Exit's ‘Life Stream’ took place from 3rd till 6th of September live from the unique stage located in the trench of the world renowned mts Dance Arena with fantastic sets delivered by Charlotte de Witte, Adam Beyer, Ben Klock, Hot Since 82, Marcel Dettmann, Satori live, DJ Tennis, Burak Yeter, Ofenbach, Mahmut Orhan and virtually via special screens by Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk, Nina Kraviz and Black Coffee.
There were only 500 people in the audience every festival night, while all health measures were conducted, even stricter than those prescribed by the Government. Social distancing was maintained among other measures and with such a demanding task, incomparable to anything so far, EXIT showed how a completely safe event can be organized even during a pandemic.
EXIT’s ‘Life Stream’ performances will be broadcasted over the course of two long weekends, from September 17th to the 20th and September 24th to the 27th. Together with artists performances, ‘Life Stream’ will feature videos and messages about looming environmental and hunger crisis. The teaser in the form of the premiere broadcast of Charlotte de Witte’s performance was aired last Saturday and resonated in the global music industry and community with viewership of more than 600,000 people so far. The complete Life Stream program is available on the EXIT’s official website and EXIT’s Facebook page as well as on Life Stream’s website, containing a detailed broadcast schedule.
Exit's ‘Life Stream’ also included the international panel Conscious Music, where key people of the WFP, David Beasley, and Exit, Dušan Kovačević, spoke. Beasley pointed out that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of people exposed to extreme hunger has increased to as many as 270 million, which is an increase of over 80% compared to the previous year. According to Dušan Kovačević, if humanity does not change the direction it is moving in, our planet may become uninhabitable over the course of the following decades, due to the worsening climate changes. He added that with the Life Stream project EXIT wants to set a good example and encourage other festivals to use their media space to draw the public’s attention to the environmental and hunger crisis. The Life Stream concept will be developed as an open-source platform and will be offered to other festivals and events around the world, for free.
The peak of EXIT’s 20th anniversary celebration will happen at EXIT 2021 from 8th to 11th of July, with the next year also marking 60 years od the United Nations World Food Programme. EXIT 2021 will see the performances of David Guetta, Tyga, Eric Prydz, Four Tet, Boris Brejcha and many more.

We finish off Friday night with big hitter Scott Diaz at Rialto Theatre! Scott has ploughed a wide and all encompassing path during his almost 20 years as a music fan, clubber, DJ and artist, playing and producing right across the spectrum of house. As a champion of great music, with a refusal to be pigeon-holed, his influences and sound range from jacked-up warehouse grooves and the club-focused UK tech sound right through to raw, soulful, jazzy cuts, filtered disco and mid-90’s U.S garage jams, taking in so much of what’s great about modern house music. No matter the venue or occasion, he maintains the same refreshing approach to his sets as to his productions with the result being a cultured blend of classic influences and modern club- ready grooves - always with the dancefloor in mind.
On Saturday 5th September The Empire Agency take over the streams as we welcome the amazing London based songwriter/producer Emily Underhill to our screens who creates atmospheric, arresting indie electronica under the name Tusks. Beloved by Lauren Laverne, Annie Mac, Wonderland, MixMag, The Line of Best Fit, DIY and many more, Emily, entertained 2000-strong rooms on a 2017 tour with renowned Icelandic singer-songwriter Ásgeir, with more exciting plans are on the horizon once touring can commence once again.

Shoegazing trio Hanya, are a band who have been gaining traction over the past year, fronted by Heather Sheret who is the owner of one of the best voices in music today. Her ability to switch from delicate pristine vocals to a fractious roar mid breath and then back again is, well, breath-taking. ‘Live, they create a truly mesmerising and unforgettable experience.’ says Clash Magazine.
We finish Saturday night with Brighton four-piece band Beach Riot, who describe their sound as "hooky catchy fuzzy noise". Beach Riot are a band with the sole aim to play as many sweaty, moshy gigs as possible, and write hooky, loud, fuzz laden pop tunes that make people lose their minds. Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) confirms first speakers for digital conference and announces ADE Specials
The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), the global industry meeting point and citywide festival for electronic music, is to go digital-first for its 2020 edition, which will take place from October 21st - 25th. The first speakers for the virtual ADE Pro conference are revealed today, alongside a select number of Covid-proof seated concerts and cross-cultural projects under the ADE Specials banner, set to take place in Amsterdam in close coordination with the city council.
This year’s 25th anniversary edition of ADE was set to become the biggest celebration of electronic music yet. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the organisers of the annual gathering have been obliged to ensure the safety of its 400,000 international visitors by shifting its conference program to an online-first environment, as well as drastically changing its festival proposition to a limited number of seated ADE Specials.
The latest announcement by the Dutch government affecting clubs and nightlife is another blow for the industry, says co-director Jan-Willem van de Ven: “Clubs and music venues form the backbone of Amsterdam’s nightlife and are incredibly important in shaping and innovating the cultural identity of the city, its inhabitants and visitors alike. Without them, electronic music loses an integral part of its culture and industry and therefore needs all support from the government.”
Nonetheless, co-director Meindert Kennis is confident ADE can continue to provide a leading industry platform for artists and industry professionals. “Creating a digital alternative of ADE’s annual industry gathering in Amsterdam was quite a puzzle because we needed to represent not just a conference program, but meaningful connections between visitors as well. Whereas other digital conferences offer a one-off knowledge sharing event, we wanted to embrace the challenge of investing in a sustainable social platform that provides real value throughout the year for music industry professionals globally.”
Some of the first confirmed ADE Pro digital conference highlights include Grammy award-winning artist James Blake in conversation with mental health expert Jennie Morton, and an in-depth workshop on music clearance by Deborah Mannis-Gardner, as well as panels talks and interviews with Bandcamp's Aly Gillani, VFX specialist Angelo White, VEVO’s Claudia de Wolff, BBC Radio 1 DJ Jaguar and music industry entrepreneur Merck Mercuriadis. More ADE Pro announcements are set to follow soon.
The ADE 2020 Digital Pro Pass grants access to the entire ADE Pro conference program as well as a year-long subscription to its social media platform. It also includes a hefty discount for next year’s edition, and is available here.
The first participating venues under the Covid-proof ADE Specials banner to take place throughout Amsterdam include Bimhuis, Concertgebouw, Melkweg, Paradiso and Paradiso Noord, with more to be announced soon. Furthermore, the organisation will provide a free online platform that hosts a variety of digital content including DJ sets, artist talks, studio tours, masterclasses and an art & film program.
News about ADE 2020’s offering and program, including confirmed artists and news about its virtual efforts, will follow soon. All news and updates can be found here.
