About EBBA
The EBBA are about breaking down borders and recognising emerging European rock, pop and dance artists who achieved success in countries other than their own. These unique European music awards are funded under the European Union (EU) Creative Europe programme. With the EBBA, the European Union wishes to highlight the success of 10 debuting European artists in selling albums and touring outside their home territory.
From Adele (2009) to Milky Chance (2015), the winners of the EBBA represent the full breadth of European talent and diversity. Other previous winners include Stromae, Emeli Sandé, Gabriel Rios, Hozier, Melanie De Biasio, Of Monsters and Men, Woodkid, Mumford & Sons, Caro Emerald, Lykke Li, Disclosure, Katie Melua, John Newman, The Ting Tings, C2C, Tokio Hotel, The Script, Zaz, Nico & Vinz, Saybia, Damien Rice, KT Tunstall, Alphabeat, Milow and Afrojack.
Europe's cultural and linguistic diversity is a strong part of its cultural appeal, but linguistic barriers sometimes make it harder for artists to work internationally and achieve cross-border sales success. The EBBA seek to help them overcome these obstacles.

Octave One Announce First Live Performance with Members of a Philharmonic Orchestra
Legendary group announce show will take place in Zurich in December
Following on from the recent hype of their brilliant album "Burn It Down" and the current special remix package of their single "Jazzo/Lose Yourself" (which sees contributions from the likes of producer du jour Paul Woolford and Mat Playford), the much loved Octave One today announce that they are set to perform with members of a Philharmonic Orchestra (for the very first time), in Zurich.
The night will begin with German cellist Daniel Muller-Schott, together with the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra. Following the opening, Octave One will join members of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, on stage for a special performance.
Said Octave One...
"When the opportunity of doing a special performance with members of the Tonhalle Orchestra was presented to us, we immediately thought of our time working with arranger, Stephen Hussey, on the "Blackwater" live strings mix back in 2001. Things got even better when Tonhalle were up for bringing him in, on this project. We're really excited about this collaboration and can't wait to bring it to life".
The Project Leader, Pierre Bachmann, goes on to elaborate...
"The TonhalleLate is an event series, which aims to take it's guests on a musical and visual journey in three acts: I. Classical concert with Philharmonic Orchestra. II. Collaboration of electronic and classical soloists. III. Live act and DJ set. Each event is carefully crafted around a theme identified in the classical programme for the selected artists and choreographed accordingly. Invited electronic live acts are chosen for their state of the art musical approach, their fit with the classical pieces/theme, as well as their representativeness of the Zeitgeist".
At the heart of the event lies a collaboration between the live act and five to eight soloists from the orchestra, where they create unique versions of the former's tracks, gliding back and forth between the electronic and the classical world.
The Tonhalle Orchestra, conducted by Lionel Bringuier, is considered one of the Top Ten Philharmonic Orchestras in the world. During its twelve year run, the event has become hugely popular engaging a mix of classical and electronic music lovers.
The event will take place on the 11th December 2015.

Christine and The Queens announced as winner of European Border Breakers Awards
Christine and The Queens were today unveiled as the ninth winner of the 2016 European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), the European music awards for emerging artists.
The alter ego of 27-year-old French singer songwriter Héloïse Letissier, Christine and The Queens blends electronica with the classic chanson style. The result is a theatrical, sensual combination that has captivated fans across Europe and beyond.
Letissier has been making music since 2011 but her big breakthrough outside France came with her single 'Christine'. Her debut album 'Chaleur Humaine' (titled ‘Christine and the Queens’ for its international release) was acclaimed by critics and fans alike. Her live shows have also attracted rave reviews for their dynamic mix of music, theatre, dance and video.
Born near Nantes in 1988, Letissier father was a professor of English literature and her played the piano from an early age and started classical dance training at the age of five, although a foot injury meant she switched to modern jazz for a while. ""For me, real life is art on the stage; I want to disappear into it,” Letissier has said.
Christine and The Queens have just completed successful tours across Europe and North America.
Earlier this month Carnival Youth (Latvia), AURORA (Norway), Oscar and The Wolf (Belgium), KOVACS (Netherlands), Álvaro Soler (Spain), SOAK (Ireland), Seinabo Sey (Sweden) and Years & Years (UK) were unveiled as 2016 EBBA winners. One final winner will be announced and filmed in the coming week. Footage of all the winners will form part of a unique ‘road-trip’ mini-movie, which will be shared via the EBBA social media account and website.

Europe's cultural and linguistic diversity is a strong part of its cultural appeal, but linguistic barriers sometimes make it harder for artists to work internationally and achieve cross-border sales success. The EBBA seek to help them overcome these obstacles.
To be eligible for the 2016 awards, the artists must have achieved border-breaking success with their first international release in Europe between 1 August 2014 and 31 July 2015.
Background
The winners are selected on the basis of data from Nielsen Music Control research, the European Broadcasting Union, EBU radio stations, and from festivals participating in the European Talent Exchange Programme.
The winners will receive their awards in a ceremony hosted by TV personality and musician Jools Holland at the Eurosonic Noorderslag festival in Groningen, Netherlands, on January 13, 2016. The ceremony will feature performances of the winning acts.
One of the winners will receive a Public Choice Award based on votes cast on the EBBA website from December 1, 2015 until January 1, 2016. Up to 15 voters, chosen at random from different countries, will be invited to the award ceremony: each will be able to bring a friend and the prize includes their flight and hotel costs.

About EXIT:
EXIT started off humbly but bravely back in 2000 when it was a student movement fighting for freedom and democracy in Serbia. Evolving from the student protests of 2000, the expression of rebellious spirit of young people in Serbia and fighting for political change and freedom. In addition, EXIT has played a vital role in bringing together the new nations of former Yugoslavia, war-torn by the events at the end of last century. It is the social importance of the Festival that made it unique and globally recognized.
EXIT is a non-corporate event with a unique history, proving that music is a universal language that can connect and bring people together to make the world a better place. EXIT is more than just a music festival, where hedonism meets activism as EXIT continues to evolve and bring like-minded people together. Exit also supports many community and humanitarian missions.
Today, EXIT is globally acknowledged as one of the most popular European music festivals winning the highly coveted title of ‘Best Major Festival’ at the 2014 European Festival Awards and reflects how EXIT has grown over the years attracting a global audience of 2.5 million visitors from 60 different countries. What was once a movement is now one of the most prestigious music events in the world!

Years & Years win European Border Breakers Award
The British band Years & Years are announced as the eighth winner of the 2016 European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), the European music awards for emerging artists.
Lauded as the ‘Sound of 2015’ by the BBC, Years & Years are well on their way to world fame. Formed in London in 2010, the band consists of frontman Olly Alexander, bassist Mikey Goldsworthy and keyboardist Emre Türkmen.
Their catchy electropop, fusing synth with 90s-style R&B vocals, first caught the eye of French independent label Kitsuné Records, which released early singles Trap and Real. The video for the latter featured Ben Whishaw, best known for portraying Q in the James Bond films; he also co-starred with Olly Alexander in a West End play.
Years & Years subsequently signed with Polydor, which released King, their first No1 single, in February this year. The song also made the top 10 in nine European countries. Their debut album, Communion, followed in July and instantly topped the charts. Years & Years have just started a major European tour, with shows planned in Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy and the UK. They will also tour extensively in the US in Spring 2016.
