shesaid.so x ADE 2022

shesaid.so is excited to announce that it will return to Amsterdam in 2022 as part of an official partnership with ADE that includes two Pro talks, a mentoring program and the official shesaid.so space at ADE in partnership with Zora and hosted at Lynk & Co’s flagship Amsterdam club.

shesaid.so has been working with ADE since 2017 with a focus on programming around diversity and inclusion in the music industry. In 2019 she said.so took our partnership to the next level and introduced she.grows at ADE - a mini-mentoring program that paired 10 senior-level members from the shesaid.so community with mentees selected by ADE University. The scheme included an open call, mentor/mentee matching & training, workshops, networking and a DJ showcase.

In 2022 shesaid.so are working even more closely together to bring back the mentoring program, curate talks as part of ADE Pro, and introduce a shesaid.so space as part of the ADE Lab track - hosted by Lynk & Co and in partnership with ZORA. The shesaid.so space at ADE 2022 hosted by Lynk & Co will feature a full day of programming on Friday October 21st, including activities related to the mentorship scheme, as well as public facing talks, networking and music.

“Our goal is to create an inclusive environment where our global community attending ADE can connect with one another and other industry professionals, in addition to learning. The program will reflect some of the most ardent topics from the shesaid.so world - including diversity & inclusion as well as more industry-facing discussions.” says founder Andreea Magdalina

Last but not least, the space will highlight initiatives and creatives curated from the community and provide promotional opportunities for showcasing talent.

shesaid.so x ADE2022 Outline 1.

1.Official shesaid.so space at ADE hosted by Lynk & Co on Friday, October 21st. Please see overview here (still fleshing out the program). Official sponsor/partner: ZORA

2.we.grow mentoring program - 5 mentes focused on traditional electronic music areas, and 5 mentees focused on web3. Official sponsor/partner for the web3 track: ZORA

3.Two talks as part of ADE Pro:

Why communities are the future of the music industry. A roundtable hosted by Andreea Magdalina (shesaid.so) with Sam Schoonover (Coachella), and one more speaker TBD.

The music industry is constantly being reshaped by new technologies. Since the advent of the World Wide Web, power has slowly shifted away from gatekeepers and into the hands of creators, curators and the community overall. In spite of that, the internet as we know it has also led to a bottleneck of influence & commerce in the hands of a few tech companies and the people who lead them. At the same time, more and more communities started leveraging these digital tools to connect with one another, collectively organize and reclaim the music ecosystem. Today, web3 is promising to disrupt, decentralize and provide transparency once again. This discussion aims to disseminate these trends and look at case studies that hypothesize why communities are the future of the music industry.

Democratizing the future of the music business
An interview hosted by Christine Osazuwa (shesaid.so) with Michail Stangl (Zora) exploring the impact of web3 technologies on the music business as reflected by an excerpt from Zora's manifesto: "We need new infrastructure, something transparent, ownable, accessible, financially sustainable, where we can share the value we create, something for the community, something that’s ours."

About shesaid.so
shesaid.so is a global community of women, gender minorities and allies in the music industry independently built in London by Andreea Magdalina in 2014. Guided by intersectionality, the community now comprises 15,000+ members around the world across 20+ chapters including New York, Los Angeles, France, Germany, Sweden and South Africa to name a few.

shesaid.so’s mission is to connect and support underrepresented communities towards a more equitable music industry for all, one woman or gender non-conforming individual at a time. We produce content that educates and creates visibility on topics that are voted for by the community, host events that enable our members to network and create meaningful connections, and develop mentoring & other mentoring programs that provide industry access & opportunities. Some of the partners we have worked with include YouTube Music, TikTok, Universal Music Group, Boiler Room, Ninja Tune, Vans and more.

Sold Out Premiere: SUPERBLOOM inspires 50,000 visitors in the Munich Olympic Park

What a premiere in Munich: International and national stars on and off the stages, colorful installations, fascinating workshops and numerous performances and talks - the first edition of SUPERBLOOM last weekend was a festival of superlatives! Festival and live entertainment fans waited two long years for this very special event: but the SUPERBLOOM Festival was finally able to open its doors on the 3rd and 4th September 2022. With 50,000 visitors* per day, the huge event announced at its premiere: sold out. A unique and multi-faceted program awaited the guests in the fantastic ambience of the Munich Olympic Park. More than 200 artists and performances ensured beaming faces and a great atmosphere among the visitors.

Fruzsina Szép and her entire team can look back on an overwhelming festival weekend with national and international headliners. The German pop hope Schmyt delivered a successful start on Saturday morning. Pulsating, funky soul and 80ies disco sounds rang out from the super stage when the Dresden Purple Disco Machine stood behind the DJ desk. Pop star Rita Ora and 21-year-old newcomer Mimi Webb delivered concentrated girl power, with Mimi proving why she is treated as an exceptional talent in the music world. The German music squad AnnenMayKantereit with the raspy voice of Henning May. Alan Walker, who produces hit after hit and got the crowd shaking with his unmistakable sounds. The biggest highlight of the first day was the stage performance by Calvin Harris, who played his only German show this year at SUPERBLOOM.

On Sunday, the Belgian musician and producer Stromae celebrated his Europe-wide exclusive festival comeback after a seven-year absence from the music business, really heated up the fans. The American singer Willow and the American rapper Macklemore, who interrupted his US tour especially for the show in Munich's Olympiapark, could also be seen exclusively at SUPERBLOOM in Germany. There was razor-sharp rap from  Megan Thee Stallion, who celebrated her German debut with this performance, as well as from the British grime superstar Skepta, who electrified the crowd with his brilliant stage performance. The BloomStage in the Olympiahalle closed with the “Heat Waves” by the UK band Glass Animals, while superstar DJ and producer David Guetta provided the crowning glory on Sunday and rounded off the multi-faceted festival weekend with his performance which sent the festival area into ecstasy.

A total of eleven experience areas such as Art Bloom, YourPlanet, MiniBloom and DISTRICT4 offered an experience for all the senses. At every corner there was something to discover, experience or help to shape interactively. Whether it's the next hot musical newcomer, exciting hands-on experiments, or delicious culinary delights: SUPERBLOOM impressively demonstrated the diversity of live entertainment. The SuperBrain area invited visitors to marvel and participate in fascinating experiments and featured exciting talks about science, medicine, technology and research, and in the Spectacular area there was dance, acrobatics, circus and performance on both days.

In addition to the musical highlights, the bestselling author, human rights activist and anti-racism expert Tupoka Ogette held a keynote on the Olympic Stage and sensitised the visitors to the really relevant topic. With their comedy shows, the Berlin comedian Kurt Krömer and comedy veteran Kaya Yanar made sure that the audience almost gasped with laughter. Many other artists and podcasters were also part of the diverse line-up.

The Managing Director and Festival Director of the SUPERBLOOM Festival, Fruzsina Szép, was emotional after the successful premiere: "The SUPERBLOOM is a great blessing for me and the whole team. I wanted to create a 360-degree festival experience and I think we've done that well. It was important to me that the visitors immersed themselves in a charming world and experienced many moments of happiness that they can now take with them into their everyday lives.” And this world was a world of superlatives. Inspired by great partners and many creative people, especially from Bavaria and directly from Munich, the motto of the SUPERBLOOM Festival applied right from the start: No idea is too big or not feasible. “We share a vision with many people. And this vision is far from being told. Our notebooks are still full of ideas that want to be brought to life in the years to come,” the festival director continues.
On Saturday, there were delays in the program due to thunderstorms to ensure the safety of the visitors, and admission to the Olympic Stadium had to be stopped for a main act. Szép commented on this at a press conference and said: “There are always great challenges at a festival that takes place for the first time. All measures had to be implemented because safety is an absolute priority at our festival. We take every point of criticism seriously and will work intensively to improve it in order to offer every visitor the best possible festival experience on site.”

Next year's SUPERBLOOM Festival is scheduled for September 2nd and 3rd, 2023. Advance sales will start soon.

Lowlands Festival Is Back For 2022 With Hugely Anticipated Sold Out Edition

A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise’ is back for 2022 with huge anticipation for its return post-pandemic. Having sold out weeks ago the festival has an impressive line up covering a wide range of genres including; Arctic Monkeys, Arlo Parks, Amelie Lens, Bring Me The Horizon, Four Tet, Glass Animals, James Blake, Jungle, Lewis Capaldi, Liam Gallagher, Mahalia, Pink Pantheress, Pendulum (live), slowthai, Tash Sultana, The Opposites, Tash Sultana and many more.

Taking place from 19 to 21 August at Walibi Holland in Biddinghuizen, A Campingflight To Lowlands Paradise is Hollands biggest most adventurous cultural outdoor event, that maintains an intimate vibe and friendly atmosphere as a township with thousands of inhabitants arises in the middle of the country for the festival.

Just over an hour drive or train journey from Amsterdam ‘A Campingflight To Lowlands Paradise’ is exactly what it promises to be: a true backpacker’s Garden Of Eden with an extensive program with a cutting edge choice of only the best in alternative music, film, stand-up comedy, visual arts, literature and street theatre. As well as the heavyweight headliners, trailblazers, impressive installations including the Armadillo featuring the renowned chimney stacks Lowlands has no less than twelve stages (among which a cinema and theatre), going by the names of Alpha, Bravo, Heineken, Lima, Juliet, X-Ray, Echo, which are all covered too, so you can enjoy all the music and entertainment come rain or shine.

Lowlands also prides itself in supplying top notch facilities for visitors in a way British festivals can’t seem to match. There’s a wellness village with saunas, hot tubs and sports facilities, dozens of restaurants from all corners of the earth, food and drink stalls, a large market with everything from clothes and vinyl stores to a barber’s shop, its own currency, a local radio station, a daily newspaper (Dutch only) and, last but not least: seven luxury campsites with flushable toilets, hot showers and dressing tables. You really can have it all and camp in comfort and style.

Lowlands have also teamed up with Solarfields to create the largest solar carport in the world, with the surface of the sustainable parking area covering 35 hectares and offering space for 15,000 cars. With the help of 90,000 solar panels, the system provides a capacity of 35 MWp, which can supply approximately 10,000 households with green energy. This output is equivalent to the power consumption of about 100 Lowlands Festival weekends annually. The Solar Carport will be a fixture at this location. The annual Lowlands Festival takes place at a fixed location in Biddinghuizen. The organization has been working for years to make the festival more sustainable. Energy consumption remains a challenge here. Approximately 300,000 kWh of electricity is consumed per Lowlands edition. Generators currently generate almost all electricity. With the construction of the Solar Carport, the festival is taking an enormous step towards sustainability.

A Campingflight To Lowlands Paradise really is the ultimate summer holiday extravaganza!

AGF Launch A Greener Supplier Certification

AGF (A Greener Festival), the founders of the world's first green standards for festivals and events have launched ‘A Greener Supplier Kitemark’ to provide green suppliers with independent and trusted verification and recognition of their sustainability actions.

The issue of finding greener solutions is an important one and the music, sports and live event sectors are increasingly looking for suppliers and partners who have sustainability at the heart of what they do. By gaining AGF certification, suppliers will be able to demonstrate independently verified green credentials to their customers. The new certification will help events, festivals and tours identify verified green suppliers more easily, reducing the time and overhead of having to undertake their own internal supplier assessments. For suppliers with the kite mark, it will reduce the effort required to demonstrate their green credentials to prospective customers.

To attain the kitemark suppliers will demonstrate a commitment to supporting biodiversity, and reducing their organisations emissions and waste across the company’s operations, purchases and investment. The supplier assessment will consider the organisation's approach to applicable key elements of environmental sustainability including energy, food & beverage, transport, waste management, water, plastics & packaging, social responsibility, as well as its policy and strategies for dealing with hazardous materials and reductions in CO2 emissions.

Tom Schroeder, Wasserman (formerly Paradigm, Agent to stars such as The xx ,Years & Years, and Annie Mac) said:
“If we are going to improve how we tour and really try and address the damage touring can do, we need resources and support that is applicable across all levels. The team at A Greener Festival have been working on real solutions, not just tokenism, and a perfect illustration is their latest initiative. With the kitemark, all parts of the live music infrastructure can see suppliers and products that have real credentials, approved by those who know best. It is a perfect example of what needs to happen for us to make real change and not just talk about it.”

Mark Ward, Production Director, Proper Proper Productions Ltd (BST Hyde Park and All Points East) said:
“I've had so many conversations over so many years with major touring artists around ‘why isn’t there something like a Kite Mark so we can see who is really good at doing this stuff’”. For the industry to have that certification now from AGF - a known, trusted and proven source - is a huge positive. In many ways it’s a game changer.”

Carol Scott, Principle Sustainability Advocate, TAIT said:
“There is a huge amount for our industry to take on board as it enters a new era where sustainability ranks top of the list on everyone’s agenda. Any initiative that streamlines and simplifies any of our production processes; particularly procurement will be hugely advantageous across the board”.

Jamal Chalabi, Head of A Greener Tour said:
“A Greener Supplier Kitemark celebrates the many suppliers who are already moving their business forward to a more sustainable future and acts as a road of direction for those looking for guidance on how to get there with the assurance of an industry standard.”

Says AGF CEO Claire O’Neill:
“Ensuring an event, tour or venue is as green as possible can be resource heavy and confusing, and it depends significantly upon the action and engagement of the suppliers. Those who are taking action to change our industry for the better deserve recognition, and if we can help to reduce the resource burden to find and evidence Greener suppliers at the same time we can effect change more quickly.”

Sustainability is high on the agenda in the music and live events industry and more venues and festivals are demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and reduction of environmental impacts by implementing a variety of actions so it is a natural progression for all businesses and suppliers within the sector to follow the same ethos.

Organisations who wish to apply for ‘A Greener Supplier KiteMark’ can do so by contacting A Greener Festival through their website https://www.agreenerfestival.com/a-greener-supplier-certification/

A Greener Festival Tips on How to do Festivals More Sustainably and Reduce Waste Left Behind

Festivals are an opportunity for community to come together and create the best version of what we want our society to be. Inclusive, diverse, creative and colourful - maximum fun and laughter without harming our environment.  A Greener Festival (AGF) is a not-for-profit company committed to helping events, festivals and venues around the world adopt environmentally efficient practices and CEO Claire O'Neill has put together some useful tips on how we can all do our bit for the environment and do festivals more sustainably.

AGF CEO Claire O’Neill says:
“Everyone who attends a festival plays a part in its creation. The actions you chose to take will directly influence how green or otherwise that festival will be. Here are a few tips for how to help your favourite festivals to be the greenest.”

1. Choose the greenest way to travel
Plan your green travel. Up to 80% of festivals CO2 emissions can be  audience travel. Choose as low carbon as possible such as train, coach or cycling!

Often there are packages to take the bus to the festival with fellow revellers, so why not start the party in advance. National and European train travel connects so many cities and with forward planning can be found at reasonable prices and breathtaking views. If choosing international rail over flying you avoid the airport journey and hassle at either side.

If you really have to drive then make sure that you share all the spaces that you have. There are lift sharing apps as well as social media where you can connect with festival goers.

A festival in the Netherlands called Into The Great Wide Open tested a luggage delivery service for locals camping equipment etc, so they could travel in a lower impact way easily and collect their camping gear when they got to the festival.

Packing light and choosing festivals local to you help achieve this top tip for greening festivals, and supports the local creative economy at the same time.

2. Pack less and reuse
Go slim on packing. Think about what you need to take in advance.

If you're going in fancy dress or for a new festival outfit - see what you can get second hand. Share so that you're not supporting the production of new materials which often cause environmental damage as well as human rights abuses, and ultimately end up as waste. Imagine the number of festival fancy dress outfits out there by now - get creative with what exists.

Pack your reusable cup and bottle. Many events provide places where you can refill your water and a lot of them do chilled or filtered water.  Coffee traders are doing refills.

Many of the bars are using reusables with a deposit or a levy so bring it back in the end because the more that it gets reused then the more that is an environmental benefit preventing plastic pollution and production.

Pack light and leave nothing behind.

3.Get informed and get involved

Prior to getting to the festival, get informed about what they're doing with regard to sustainability.  If you go to any festival website you can have a look at what their plans are and what they are asking you to engage with. That might be something related to transport or things to bring and things not to bring.

If there's nothing there then get in touch with the festival and ask what about their green actions. You can have even more influence by actually making them think about it if they haven't already.

Perhaps they need green ambassadors. To be a part of the festival community,  think how you can be part of the solution. It’s the festival goers who are creators of the festival experience too.

4.Remember to turn your electronics off
Turn everything you can off before you go, unless you've got house mates then that's a bit mean.  Also check the fridge, check the cupboards and make sure you're not leaving food that's going to go off when you're away.

You can actually have a lower impact by living at a festival for a long weekend because of communal cooking and living, and you've not got everything switched on the whole time.

5.Beware of the Supermarket
Beware getting shopping trolleys full of stuff that will perish in the campsites, including cheap tents and the kind of items that you don't really need.

When you go into the supermarket on the way you might think oh I'm going to make all of my own food and say you'll buy loads of pots of hummus, but what we see is that food gets left over at the end of festivals in campsites. Try to not take more than what you need and avoid random items that are going to end up being single use and waste.

There's often independent traders at festivals with quite unique offerings. Support the local and the festival economy!

6.Pre pitched and reusable tents
If there's the opportunity to get pre pitched camping this helps reduce packing you have to carry and risk of campsite waste. It doesn’t have to be  boutique camping. More so there are economic pre pitched options. How lovely if you don't need to carry and put up your tent.

If you do take your own tent, get something durable that’s not just going to end up smashed into pieces, and that you're definitely not going to leave it behind. There is embodied oil, water and carbon in the production of most camping items which we can’t afford to throw away, ecologically as well as financially.

Save money and reduce waste by getting long lasting camping gear and taking it home with you.

7.Think about what you eat
Our food choices on site have a big impact on sustainability. Ingredients have varying impacts on the environment based upon land use and feed for instance. Red meat is known to have the largest CO2 impact and land / water use. Plant based and vegan meal options are known to have to lower CO2 impacts. If you’re not already vegan try something new with the varied and delicious options available in the festivals food line up!

With any meals you purchase, check for any labels and sourcing information provided. It's amazing when you go to festivals the amount of detail that you can get and if it's not written up there on a chalkboard you can ask the person in charge of the stall. Our food choices and sourcing has such a huge impact on the environment and wellbeing. Have the conversation.

AGF Top Sustainability Tips For Festival Goers

Festivals are an opportunity for community to come together and create the best version of what we want our society to be. Inclusive, diverse, creative and colourful – maximum fun and laughter without harming our environment.  A Greener Festival (AGF) CEO Claire O’Neill has put together some useful tips on how we can all do our bit for the environment and do festivals more sustainably.

Claire O'Neill  says:

If you’re going in fancy dress or for a new festival outfit – see what you can get second hand. Share so that you’re not supporting the production of new materials which often cause environmental damage as well as human rights abuses, and ultimately end up as waste. Imagine the number of festival fancy dress outfits out there by now – get creative with what exists.
