In recent
years the Amsterdam Dance Event has become the most important
breeding ground for electronic music culture. The day program extensively commemorated
the 100
years of electronic musical instruments, including a Museum of
Modern Instruments ( MoMI ) in De Brakke
Grond. In addition, there were collaborations with the
Milkshake festival and Paradiso, who presented the program 'For all Who Love' in
the Duif. The new ADE Zen Space was

special sold-out sleep concert, through meditation and special audiovisual
installations.
The full cultural day program spread across
more than 40 locations in the Amsterdam metropolitan region, including Kunstfort
Vijfhuizen, ICK ZuidOost, Het HEM, Lab111, OSCAM and the
Noorderkerk as eye-catching locations. France was the focus country this
year, being highlighted in the conference and festival program, with China,

development and education also took centre stage within a more extensive ADE
Sound Lab program, ADE University, Beats Academy and the first ADE Writers Camp hosted by ADE Sound Lab and VondelCS.

Melkweg, offering a stage to upcoming live talent through a two-day program. The
American tech company Audionamix won the ADE

for his contribution to the dance scene, the city and ADE. De Goede was
the foundation of the Nachtburgemeester Foundation, of which he is currently
chairman of the supervisory board.
Director Mariana Sanchotene looks back on
the event with satisfaction: “We have had an enormously diverse offering over the past five
days, with ample attention for artistic and technologic innovation, talent
development, and inclusivity. We have looked after a good spread
of the events throughout the city and have made outings to Het HEM in Zaandam and Kunstfort in
Vijfhuizen.” She continues ”The aim was to grow in quality,
not so much quantity. We always strive to deepen and enrich the
imagination of the program and I think we have succeeded. We’re looking forward
to our anniversary edition in 2020 with fresh courage and inspiration.”

Connect with the French Market at French Electronic Lab
On Thursday the focus country France hosts the guesthouse at De Balie with its French Electronic Lab. In the past 10 years, the French scene has seen the creation of many new clubs and festivals, and some of them quickly gained national and international attention through a sharp, innovative and attractive musical programming, combining international headliners and local emerging talents. These clubs and festivals have contributed to the growth of an entire new generation of French artists and shaped the "Made in France" electronic music scene. This panel will explore what made the success of these clubs and festivals, what are the specifics of this new French scene in terms of artists and musical genres and how these clubs and festivals work on their artistic direction on a day to day basis, as well as revealing opportunities for non-French labels and artists

EXIT Launches eco initiative LIFE STREAM at Amsterdam Dance Event and awards Greta Thunberg
Born two decades ago out of a need to change its own society, and after working on numerous humanitarian and environmental projects ever since, including hosting one of the leading life-protecting activists from the Standing Rock tribe on its Main Stage, EXIT Festival is launching its biggest environmental project to this date: the • LIFE STREAM.
Next year, on EXIT's big 20th anniversary, the live stream of performances will be put into a purpose with one paramount goal: to preserve life on our planet. With help of numerous organisations, artists and the audience, from 9th to 12th July 2020, EXIT will call the world leaders and people everywhere to take immediate action, while also helping relevant organizations raise donations and make a difference.
The first of EXIT’s • LIFE STREAM events will be held on Friday, 18 October at the Amsterdam Dance Event 2019 from one of the most unique venues, the world-famous Faralda Crane Hotel with the leading breakthrough DJ duo ARTBAT. They will be joined by Balkan’s finest talents, Coeus, After Affair, Andrew Meller and DJ Jock. Everyone who tunes in the party via live feed will be able to donate.
LIFE STREAM also aims to recognise those who support humanitarian and environmental projects with the first LIFE STREAM recognition being presented to Greta Thunberg.
Greta Thunberg was placed in the eye of the public after her speech at the UN conference on climate changes in Poland was extremely well received, while in January, at the World Economic Forum in Davos she said her, by now famous, sentence to the governments and leaders: “I want you to act as if our house is on fire.” Her strong messages were heard by billions at the Summit on Climate Changes of the UN in New York, but they have also had a strong reaction from the sceptics.
This is exactly why at this time, when an anti-campaign has been developed against a 16-year-old girl who has dared to raise her voice in the name of the planet that we are living on, EXIT wishes to loudly and clearly show its support to this young guerrilla warrior, awarding Greta Thunberg with the • LIFESTREAM recognition and announcing the eponymous ecological campaign that will be launched at Amsterdam Dance Event next week.
“We have witnessed lately an avalanche of comments on Greta’s appearance, tone and gestures, we have heard numerous conspiracy theories and many other, completely irrelevant topics, with all those voices seemingly ignoring the essence – that the data that Greta Thunberg states is accurate and scientifically confirmed. Sceptics who do not believe these facts will do so in 5 to 10 years, when they see with their own eyes the devastating consequences of climate change. Our planet does not need saving, it will survive everything, it is the people and the life around us that does,” stated EXIT’s founder Dušan Kovačević.
The • LIFE STREAM initiative will have its peak at EXIT 2.0 festival edition that will take place in Novi Sad, Serbia, 9-12 July 2020.

After forming TBA International with Ian Wright in the early 80s, Giddings went solo in 1987, venturing into Stadium Touring and eventually was offered the opportunity to re-create the now very successful Isle of Wight Festival of the late 90s; which has seen the likes of The Rolling Stones, Muse,Snow Patrol, Bruce Springsteen, Queen and Amy Winehouse grace the stage. Van Kooten and De Graaf never told the press how much they got for their company, but the rumours say it’s around 100 million dollars. Roger stayed on as CEO but Eelko left the company. At ESNS 2020 Eelko van Kooten will talk about how he built his company and give an inside on the process of selling your company to a major.

OCTAVE ONE ‘LOCUS OF CONTROL’ VOLUME 2 OUT THIS WEEK
Musically we are exploring the ‘power or powerlessness people feel over the things that shape their world’
Building on the success of Vol 1, Detroit pioneers Octave One now serve up Locus of Control Volume 2, continuing their journey of exploration of power or powerlessness over what moves one’s world.
This EP comes after a busy series of shows for the most famous live act in all of techno, with them recently having played everywhere from Piknic Électronik Montréal to Movement to Dimensions Festival and many more. The show is an all new audio-visual experience for 2019 and continues to keep them at the forefront of the scene despite more than 30 years of experience. Locus of Control Part 2 follows a remix of Giorgia Angiuli and lands on their own 430 West label once more.
This EP series takes its name from a psychological concept that refers to how strongly people believe they have control over the situations and experiences that affect their lives. Part 1 showcased euphoric piano stabs and uplifting drum lines, and Part 2 explores more propulsive techno.
Up first, ‘Afrotech’ is a seven minute techno adventure. It’s built on sleek, crisp drums with twisted synths writhing about up top. The devil is in the detail and the way the synths are subtly tweaked throughout to make for a most dynamic journey once more from these brillaint brothers.
The excellent ‘Detune’ is a futuristic track with layers of shiny metallic drums and taught synth riffs that make for a tense and thrilling ride. Big drums power things along and the whole thing is the sort of sensory overload that will blow up even the biggest warehouse parties and festival stages.
These are two more powerful tracks from the ever essential Octave One.
The EP is set for release on 11th October via the 430 West.

About ETEP
The European Talent Exchange Programme (ETEP) was introduced in 2003 to stimulate the exchange of European artists across Europe, and would not be possible without the funding of the support programmes for culture by the European Union. ETEP has been one of the very first programmes to support popular music on a European level. Currently ETEP receives funding by the sub-programme "Culture" as part of Creative Europe. To find out more about Creative Europe, please check https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/creative-europe/node_en
An initiative of ESNS, ETEP facilitates the bookings of European acts on European & international festivals outside their home countries and generates extensive media exposure for these artists in cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) public radio stations, as well as national and international media. Additionally, ETEP actively cooperates with 16 music export offices. This way, ETEP aims to give a boost to the international careers of European artists and highlights the participating ETEP festivals.
Since the start of the programme ETEP has facilitated 4.308 shows by 1.580 acts in 37 countries, and we are very proud to have contributed to the careers of so many talented European acts. Many acts that received support from ETEP at the start of their careers have grown out to be very successful. Over the past 17 years, acts such as Agnes Obel, Ásgeir, Ben Howard, Benjamin Clementine, Calvin Harris, Franz Ferdinand, James Blake, MØ, Noisia, Selah Sue, The Editors, The Kooks, The XX, Within Temptation and Years & Years have greatly benefited from the support of the ETEP programme. More recently, acts such as Idles, Shame, Alma, Aurora and Dua Lipa played some of their first international shows with the support of the European Talent Exchange Programme.
