NTIA and Music Lotto Launch Funding Scheme to Support Independent Artists and Creatives Across the Electronic Music Sector

The two not-for-profits join forces to support the electronic independent music industry.

Night Time Industries Association and The Music Lotto announce partnership with a united objective to break down barriers to music, and make the electronic music industry a more inclusive and accessible career opportunity for people entering the creative sectors and provide routes to access night time spaces to showcase their talent.

With NTIA’s focus on protecting and enhancing electronic music culture, communities and all things nightlife, Music Lotto has created a unique lottery that gives back to up and coming artists and businesses within the creative industries across the UK.

The Music Lotto Launched in the summer of 2022 as a digital fundraising lottery. Each lottery ticket costs £1, with 50% of all ticket sales split between the grants programme for talent, giving artists financial support to further their career, with further donations going to a range of charity partners.

Over the next 6 months, NTIA & The Music Lotto will be bringing together ambassadors and partners to provide access to various support including The Music Lottos’ grants programme.

The grants programme will allow unsigned talent to apply for monetary support of up to £1k for anything they may need, including equipment, studio time, access to tech and performance spaces etc

Night time venues who wish to provide a platform for up and coming artists can also apply for support. We want to encourage venues to expand and diversify their music offering to drive a more inclusive customer experience.

Michael Kill CEO NTIA says

“Over the course of the last 4 years, we have witnessed the struggles faced by emerging talent across the electronic music sector, and the subsequent void in the talent pipeline.”

“The night time culture economy has always been an advocate for new and emerging talent, and prides itself on giving grassroots artists a platform to access physical audiences, and the ability to build their fanbase.”

“The Music Lotto programme will go a long way to help fund new talent across the creative sectors, helping to rebuild local and national talent pipeline and generate more opportunities for aspiring artists across the UK.”

Silvana Kill, Director NTIA says

“We are continually looking at ways to support up and coming artists and creatives, as well as venues who want to provide a platform for new talent. Our partnership with The Music Lotto aims at just that, and we are thrilled to be working with them.”

“Late night venues provide a main vein of opportunities for new music.  Through providing an inclusive platform for artists, and for people to come and experience the wide spectrum of music talent out there. These platforms are being suffocated because of the erosion of venues, the work we do with partners like The Music Lotto is critical to connect new diverse talent with night time spaces and ensure both our current and future generations won’t lose out.”

Adrian Norman, CEO The Music Lotto says:

“I’m thrilled for us to be working with the Night Time Industries Association in this partnership. They are a company I have admired for a while and together I think we can really make a difference to the independent music industry and give artists the support they need,”

Together we aim to be a funnel of opportunities paving the way for the next generation of talent.

The Music Lotto will be announcing its first round of grant applications in the coming months, so follow their instagram to be the first to know @music_lotto.

A Greener Future Unveiled on UN World Environment Day

Sustainable event pioneers A Greener Future (formerly A Greener Festival) unveil their new website on the UN World Environment Day, highlighting the new direction and services, following their momentous rebrand.

First revealed at AGF's flagship event, the Green Events & Innovations Conference (GEI) in February, the rebrand from ‘A Greener Festival’ to ‘A Greener Future’ reflects the organisation's evolution beyond the music industry and festivals to support the broader events, sports and entertainment sector including suppliers and stakeholders. It highlights the evolution of sustainability not only in events and entertainment, but in society at large. No longer a niche or just a nice thing to do, but the only viable direction of travel.

The new website went live on Monday 5th June, 2023, detailing new services now available to support the sector, including the Sustainability Diagnosis providing organisations with a measure of their current sustainability performance, and recommendations for improvements. The Sustainability Diagnosis provides a basis for strategic planning, carbon footprint and a foundation to acquire AGF certification.

An entirely new membership service and platform are now available giving organisations access to greater sustainability support, guidance, tools, community and networking facilitated through A Greener Future. Thanks to support from music climate action funders EarthPercent, this includes a free entry level membership for individuals and small organisations seeking to access AGF resources and tools.

AGF is the longest standing organisation dedicated to helping events, festivals, venues and organisations globally to become greener, providing the world’s first green event certification, training, and expertise to the sector for the past 17 years.

The new website and more information can be found at www.agreenerfuture.com, where more services, events and products will be revealed in the coming months.

Read about the AGF journey and story behind the organisation and rebrand here.

AGF CEO Claire O’Neill said:
“It’s so refreshing after nearly 2 decades for A Greener Festival to start a new life as A Greener Future. We’re happy to share work from behind the scenes on UN’s World Environment Day. We’ve broadened horizons bringing events, music, entertainment, and sports together to green up our sector in what remains of this vital decade. Our new services revealed today and those in the pipeline are designed to help. With huge emissions reductions to be made, requiring drastic changes to business-as-usual, there is no more time to waste. Those who don’t act and adapt will at very best cease to be viable businesses”

AGF Director, Teresa Moore said:
“During the years since AGF was founded, the industry has become acutely aware of its impact on the environment and its responsibility to take action and lead the way through innovation and changes to practise. Throughout, AGF has been at the forefront not only with helping individual events to make those changes but in driving a more holistic view of the industry as an interconnected system where every aspect of the events business, from artist, performer or athlete to the venue to the supply chain needs to contribute to the same sustainability goals”

Mallorca Live Festival closes a successful 6th edition with 65,000 attendees

Mallorca Live Festival has established itself as one of the key European festivals with its sixth edition, which brought together a total of 65,000 attendees through out three unforgettable days of live music.

On May 18, 19 and 20, great Spanish and international artists and bands gathered at Calvià’s Old Aquapark. The hits of British The Kooks, the never-failing Vetusta Morla and the iconic Bad Gyal took the festival by storm on its opening day, sharing the lineup with eclectic Spanish acts such as Natos y Waor, León Benavente, Rojuu, Carlangas, Ginebras or Xavibo, legendary German DJ Sven Väth and the perfect ending with the always exciting Bresh party.

Black Eyed Peas were Friday’s undisputed kings, the same day the island experienced first-hand the Quevedo phenomenon and the long-awaited live performance by German trio Moderat, sharing an eclectic lineup with electronic music icon Peggy Gou, The Dandy Warhols, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or Majorcans L.A. and Dollar Selmouni, as part of the festival’s commitment to supporting the local scene.

The Chemical Brothers put the finishing touch to this edition on Saturday with their first ‘live’ visit to the island, in a day when the live performances by Bomba Estéreo, !!! (Chk Chk Chk), Viva Suecia, La Plazuela, The Reytons or Yendry, amongst others, stood out, and the activity was frantic in the fun Baleària Stage with Palma’s famous bar Flexas as stage host and performances by Samantha Hudson, Locomía or the union of Hidrogenesse and the Calvià Municipal Music Band.

For the first time, the festival was broadcasted nationwide thanks to Radio 3. Friday’s and Saturday’s concerts could be heard all throughout Spain via a media partner which also gave name to Stage 5, home to some of Spain’s most exciting emerging bands and artists such as Judeline, Hickeys, Irenegarry or Morreo.

The festival experience was complete thanks to its 25,000 m2 venue, which as well as offering five stages, nature and a colorful decoration, it held the Happening Market –the festival’s food and shopping area with more than 30 stands and food trucks by local businesses– a VIP and a new Premium area, a chill out area and various fun brand activations.

The venue also featured cup pick-up points as part of the festival’s alliance with the Cleanwave Foundation (committed to provide a comprehensive solution which guarantees the circularity of reusable hard plastic cups) and the Music For All Foundation stand, in order to make the festival more accesible for people with disabilities and/or functional diversity offering information, support and equipment such as wheelchairs.

Summer starts here

The island of Mallorca has once again stood out in 2023 and established itself in the international spotlight thanks to the sixth edition of the Balearic Islands’ most important music event, which has become a great catalyst for the cultural sector, an ambassador for the Balearic Islands and a promoter of the Mallorca brand and festival tourism, consolidating its headquarters in the beautiful southwestern region of Calvià between the Serra de Tramuntana and some of the best beaches in Europe.

Within festival tourism, it has managed to position itself as one of the most attractive musical events thanks to the different vacation packages offered that combined quality of offer, price and the best musical proposal. Taking place in May, it comes to show that Mallorca is a magical island destination you can visit all year long and Mallorca Live is the perfect event to kickstart the summer season.

Mobility and access

Thanks to the mobility plan promoted to improve arrival at the venue and reduce the influx of private cars, attendees have opted for the shuttle service from different parts of the island. In total, nearly 20,000 transfers have been made during the 3 days from three different areas (Part Forana, Palma and Calvià) that have helped to reduce the environmental impact.

The success of this edition in terms of access and mobility is largely due to the collaboration of the attendees, who have chosen to use the new shuttle bus service launched by the organization. This sixth edition has also stood out for the fast access flow thanks to the prior collection of wristbands, available during the 10 days prior to the festival at Palma’s Porto Pi shopping center.

The attendance numbers the organization sought were met, having 70% of attendees from the Balearic Islands, 20% from the Peninsula and 10% international. Once more, the project is committed to attracting a new audience and promoting quality cultural tourism in Mallorca and the Magaluf area of the Calvià region.

About Mallorca Live Festival

Mallorca Live Festival was launched in 2016 and soon became the most popular international music festival in the Balearic Islands. In Mallorca, it's regarded as the most prestigious brand within the music entertainment industry.

Once more the festival has the support of institutions such as the Government of the Balearic Islands through the Agency for Tourism Strategy of the Balearic Islands (AETIB), the Consell de Mallorca through the Mallorca Tourism Foundation (FMT) and the Calvià City Council.

The festival also has the support of Estrella Damm as main sponsor, as well as the INNSIDE by Melià hotel chain, the shipping company Baleària, Endesa as its sustainable partner, Air Europa airlines, Logitravel, Coca-Cola, Tanqueray 0.0, Porto Pi, Red Bull, Goldcar and See Tickets as official ticketing platform. Radio 3, Cadena SER Radio Mallorca, music magazine Mondosonoro and music website Jenesaispop are the official media partners.

AGF & Falmouth Uni Sustainability Training for the Green Future of the Events Sector

As the global events industry seeks to become sustainable, with government bodies such as DCMS in the UK calling for environmental standards for festivals, what better place to turn for training than the founders of the world's first green standards and certification for festivals and events.

AGF (A Greener Future) & Falmouth University have opened enrollment to their industry leading sustainable event course, starting 5th June for two weeks online. The training is designed to equip students with all the skills and knowledge of the environmental operations and sustainability at events and enables those who pass to undertake and carry out environmental assessments for a wide range of different events and venues worldwide on behalf of AGF.

Events, festivals and venues look to AGF to provide trained Assessors that are able to assess their activities and offer recommendations on how they can make their events greener.

Successful completion of the two week intensive online course is valid for a period of three years, after which students will need to renew their training.

Students will learn and understand the key operational issues of events which create an environmental and social impact as well as issues to do with communication and behaviour change legislation and self regulation.  The training is designed to develop knowledge and skills needed to undertake environmental assessments.

The course which is Stage 1 of AGF’s assessor training provides the opportunity to move onto Stage 2 to focus on the practical application of the knowledge and skills to become a trained  A Greener Future Assessor, able to undertake environmental assessment of events, festivals and venues worldwide on their behalf.

This course is designed to train auditors to complete assessments at events, festivals and venues on behalf of the AGF certifications, such as “A Greener Festival”, “Greener Arena” and “Greener Event” certifications.

The training is also relevant for those who want to work in event sustainability or improve understanding, including event organisers, local authorities, suppliers, academics and researchers as well as those who are passionate about developing their skills in event sustainability.

“The AGF training was great, very worthwhile on a number of levels. The trainers are dedicated, knowledgeable and enthusiastic; the information imparted is useful and interesting; and there were valuable opportunities to make contact with like-minded passionate people involved in festivals and sustainability. It’d be great if all festival organisers did this training!” Em Weirdigan, Green Gathering

The next online course will start on 5th June 2023. More info on the course here and how to apply here: https://flexible.falmouth.ac.uk/courses/short/a-greener-future-assessor-training
