Eurosonic Noorderslag is gearing up for it’s most dynamic edition to date which will feature four days and nights of live music, conferences, industry networking and innovation. Over the event’s 30 year history, Eurosonic Noorderslag has cemented it’s position as the stand-out get together for the European live music scene while expanding in the fields of digital business and live music innovation.
Festival
Eurosonic Noorderslag features a festival programme that spans four days with over 350 artists from over 31 European countries set to perform from the 11th – 14th of January in Groningen. From pop, rock, indie, folk and everything in between, Eurosonic Noorderslag is the place to discover the best new and breakthrough talent of 2017. Over its 30 year history, Eurosonic Noorderslag has been dedicated to the better circulation of European music, with a proven track record for helping break new artists on the international live music scene, kick-starting the careers of European acts such as Ásgeir, Aurora, Birth of Joy, Christine and the Queens, De Staat, Dua Lipa, First Aid Kit, Hozier, James Blake, Franz Ferdinand, Milky Chance, My Baby, Royal Blood and Seinabo Sey. Conference
As well as all the amazing new acts performing at the event this year’s conference programme includes top-tier keynote speakers such as BBC Radio 1’s Head of Music Chris Price, Legendary German promoter Ossy Hoppe, SXSW conference programmer Todd Hansen and Seymour Stein co-founder of US label Sire. Topics up for discussion range from ‘The Future of Media’, ‘Where are Women in the European Live music industry?’, ‘Labels, Media & Festivals’, ‘Music Venues in Europe’ and Buma Music Meets Tech (BMMT) will be hosting a variety of seminars. Portugal Focus
Each year Eurosonic Noorderslag highlights a different country, showcasing the diverse musical talent across Europe. This year Portugal will be the focus country taking centre stage, organised in cooperation with WHY Portugal. A total of 21 acts from Portugal will be performing at the showcase festival in January: :papercutz, Batida presents The Almost Perfect DJ, Best Youth, DJ Firmeza, Dj Ride, First Breath After Coma, Gisela João, Glockenwise, Holy Nothing, Marta Ren & the Groovelvets, Memória de Peixe, Moonshiners, NEEV, Noiserv, Octa Push, Rodrigo Leão, Sam Alone and the Gravediggers, The Gift, The Happy Mess, Throes + The Shine and We Bless This Mess. Alongside the acts playing in the festival program, the focus on Portugal continues at the Eurosonic Noorderslag conference where we delve deeper into the music and festival scene. During the conference there will be a Portugal focus lounge and WHY Portugal will be presenting the following panels:

European Border Breaker Awards
On 11 January 2017, the Dutch city of Groningen hosts the 14th European Border Breakers Awards, the European music show dedicated to up-and-coming bands and acts. The Awards this year go to Alan Walker (no), Jaakko Eino Kalevi (fi), Namika (de), Hinds (es), Filous (at), Jain (fr), Dua Lipa (gb), Era Istrefi (al), Natalie La Rose (nl) and Walking on Cars (ie). The awards recognise new acts based on success outside their own country. The Awards are a chance to discover and celebrate the best of contemporary European music.
All the winners will feature in the award show, hosted by celebrated musician and presenter Jools Holland. The show will be recorded for TV and is available to all European public broadcasting stations.
European Festival Awards
The eighth annual European Festival Awards presented in association with Yourope will take place on January 11, during the opening night of Eurosonic Noorderslag, at De Oosterpoort in Groningen, The Netherlands, to celebrate the successes of Europe’s music festival industry over the past year. As well as a gala dinner and award ceremony there will be live performances from Roosevelt and James TW. The award shortlists can be viewed here.

Noorderslag announce new acts and NPO Soul & Jazz stage
This year's Noorderslag lineup is almost complete with new additions 45ACIDBABIES, Aafke Romeijn, Bartek, Canshaker Pi, Celine Cairo, Fata Boom, Kim Janssen, Koffie, Komodo, Linde Schöne, MICH, Michelle David & the Gospel Sessions Extravaganza, Noisia ‘Outer Edges’, SFB, SMIB and hiphop formation Rotterdam Airlines (BKO, Jairzinho, Kevin, Lil Saint en Sevn Alias) added to the bill. Earlier this week radiostation NPO Soul & Jazz announced that they are going to host a stage at Noorderslag, their line-up consists of Darlyn, de Nachtdienst, Pink Oculus and Steffen Morrison.

First Dutch acts announced for Eurosonic Noorderslag
Broederliefde, Donnie, Pip Blom, Rondé, Rob Dekay, Teske, The Jerry Hormone Ego Trip, The Grand East and Yung Internet have been confirmed to play at Noorderslag on January 14th. Ticket sales for the festival commence on October 29th, 12.00 (CET) with tickets available online via Ticketmaster. Young visitors (up to 18) can also enjoy the Noorderslag YUNG! ticket which offers a substantial discount on the normal price.
Eurosonic Noorderslag has been the European showcase festival for 31 years and is widely recognized as the platform for European music. Each year, Groningen is the place to discover new acts that are to dominate the big festivals that following summer. At Eurosonic (11, 2 and 13 January) upcoming European acts perform in intimate venues across Groningen. Noorderslag presents the most happening and important bands and acts from the Netherlands, and takes place in a sold-out Oosterpoort venue in Groningen.

Drumcode Halloween streams live from Tobacco Dock
With the return of their monumental Halloween party this October at Tobacco Dock, Drumcode celebrates its 20th year by broadcasting the event live on Drumcode Radio.
Drumcode Halloween is back at Tobacco Dock on Saturday 29th October, marking its seventh year of debauchery. A spine-tingling lineup sees Drumcode’s most iconic artists, play alongside a host of special guests drawn from every end of the techno spectrum.
Label boss Adam Beyer is once more at the helm, alongside dancefloor powerhouses Alan Fitzpatrick and Ida Engberg who have been a defining part of the Drumcode Halloween experience. Nicole Moudaber also stars, along with LWE favourite Anja Schneider, Detroit’s finest Stacey Pullen and UK producer Reset Robot. For an incendiary live performance look no further than the UK’s Dense & Pika, as well as Berlin based duo Pan-Pot and fellow Berliner’s Marcel Fengler and Monika Kruse. Drumcode’s rising stars Sam Paganini and Marco Faraone join the Halloween tribe with their signature soundscapes and rolling bass, along with Kevin Over and Russian DJ Julia Govor, who steps up for her debut London show.
The Victorian majesty of Grade 1 listed Tobacco Dock will once more provide a stunning industrial backdrop, as haunting sets are woven into the rafters, zombies shapeshift through the walkways, and a very special crowd make the space their own with an array of costumes, characters, and styles. Intense, euphoric and hypnotic.
For the seventh year in a row the event has now completely sold out but those not lucky enough to get a ticket can tune into Drumcode Radio live from Relentless Studios as they broadcast direct from the ten thousand capacity sell out show, featuring interviews and exclusive access to all the action backstage as well as well as key performances from the Great Gallery, including Adam Beyer, Pan-Pot, Sam Paganini, Monika Kruse and Boxia. It’s going to be one hell of a party so be sure to tune in to the radio stream between 12:00 and 22:30 on Saturday 29th October and soundtrack your Saturday with some of techno's finest. Eurosonic Noorderslag confirms new bands and acts for 2017
The Gift, NEEV, DJ Ride, Gisela João, Glockenwise, Memória de Peixe, :papercutz and We Bless This Mess – all hailing from Portugal – are confirmed for Eurosonic Noorderslag (11 – 14 January 2017). These showcases are part of the Focus on Portugal at Eurosonic Noorderslag, presenting new music from the south European country.
“With Eurosonic Noorderslag as a platform for European music, we are excited to present new Portuguese music,” says Nuno Saraiva of WHY Portugal: ‘There are so many great artists in present-day Portugal that it is no doubt a tough job for the Eurosonic team to pick which ones to invite, in order to offer the music business professionals and European audiences the very best talents from Portugal in this important year.”
