SZIGET FESTIVAL PLAYLIST

With the festival now in full swing, take a listen to the acts on the bill at this weekends Sziget Festival in Budapest. This playlist was put together by the Sziget team as a tribute to the great work of their beloved booking agent, Dan Panaitescu, who recently died in a tragic car accident.

The Lumineers – Ophelia
The Lumineers is kind of the perfect band that we can think of for a sunset. The atmosphere of their music is very special to us and they are a true festival band. We’ve been waiting for their big comeback and their new album, so we are excited to have them and see them this year.

Years & Years – Shine
We believe that they are one of the most exciting bands in the UK at the moment, becoming very popular very quickly and it’s no wonder why. They will kick off the Main Stage programme on Monday, the 6th day of the festival.

Jake Bugg – Gimme The Love
We really loved his previous gig at Sziget and we very much like his new songs and his whole style. A very young performer with a great talent, we will definitely keep an eye on his future career as well.

Rihanna – Love On The Brain
It’s great to have one of the world’s most successful and popular singers on our Main Stage. She is always looking for new sounds and new styles - we very much like this attitude and her new album is a great example of this. This is one of our favourite songs from the album, as it shows just how colourful Rihanna is.

MUSE – Citizen Erased
We have wanted to have them back at Sziget since 2010. They have such an amazing discography and we are huge fans of the way they experiment constantly with different sounds and genres. This song summarises exactly why we love them so much, we believe that they are truly one of the best live bands on the planet.

The Neighborhood - Sweater Weather
The Neighborhood are very good live, they are also a very suitable choice for a festival. Their videos are mesmerizing and we just love their whole image.

Sigur Rós – Brennisteinn
We’ve followed the music scene of Iceland for many years now and as one of their biggest exports Sigur Rós are definitely a great choice for a co-headline slot on the Main Stage. Exciting music with an atmosphere that stays with you forever. This will be their first performance in Hungary, so we are very pleased to have them.

BØRNS - 10,000 Emerald Pools
As mentioned before, we very much like new and experimental performers. Garrett Borns aka BØRNS is a super young performer but with a very mature and unique sound. We loved his debut album and we can’t wait for the follow-up!

The Last Shadow Puppets – Bad Habits
These two genies will be one of the last acts on the Main Stage, just before our End Show. We love and respect them and also their work! A great atmosphere is always guaranteed with this duo.

- Final Song
This year at Sziget we will have many many super exciting female performers (pl. Aurora, Jess Glynne, Jain, Kovacs, Róisín Murphy), so it was very hard to choose, but MØ is just so wonderful. This song is particularly one of our favorites, very liberating, a real festival anthem.

Bilbao BBK Live rounds off a successful 11th edition and announces dates for 2017

The 11th edition of Bilbao BBK Live took place from 7-9 July 2016, welcoming over 100,000 music fans to the Kobetamendi Hill with stunning views across beautiful city of Bilbao. Boasting an unparalleled musical lineup, this year’s edition saw performances from Arcade Fire, Pixies, Foals, Tame Impala, New Order, Underworld, Editors, Grimes, M83, Years & Years, 2manydjs, Father John Misty, Wolf Alice and many more.

Playing one of only two highly-anticipated European shows Arcade Fire stole the show on Thursday with an unforgettable performance, which saw them play a career spanning set that included everything from ‘The Suburbs’ and ‘Afterlife’ to tracks from acclaimed debut Funeral. The same day also saw M83 bring new album ‘Junk’ to the main stage along with performances from New Order, Hot Chip, Years & Years, Hinds and Chvrches.

Fresh from the announcement of their forthcoming new album – the first without founding member Kim Deal - Friday’s headliners Pixies showed that there’s plenty of life in the band yet. With classics like ‘Debaser’ sitting comfortably alongside new tracks like ‘Indy Cindy’, Black Francis lead the band through an unmissable closing show. Pop queen Grimes tore through her set proving herself to be one of the brightest talents both in the studio and onstage, Ocean Colour Scene made a hugely anticipated return to Spain and pioneers Underworld also proved to be on fine form.

Co-headliners Tame Impala and Foals closed the show on Saturday night with two standout shows. Kevin Parker and co entertained the crowds with their laid-back psychedelic beats and proved themselves to be a worthy festival headliner. Foals were on fine form and more than proved their reputation as one of the most high-energy bands that modern music has to offer. Incorporating everything from early hit ‘Balloons’ to new album standout ‘What Went Down’, the band had the whole crowd in the palms of their hands for the duration of their typically raucous set. Other Saturday highlights included Father John Misty, Courtney Barnett, Wolf Alice and 2ManyDJs.

This year BBK Live introduced the amazing BASOA Space to the festival. Dedicated to bringing the finest in dance music to the Kobetamendi crowd, the new area played host to Ame, Floating Points, Four Tet, Erol Alkan and many more all in an incredibly unique forest setting.

Bilbao BBK Live 2017 will take place from 6-8 July 2017. Tickets are now on sale at bilbaobbklive.com.
